OT post! :P

(I never post here...)

#197160 Non-vindictive Mod Rant & Praise thread

Posted by nethrin on 31 March 2005 - 10:44 PM in Chrysta

I do not think romances are important for an NPC mod.

agreed. imo, good writing is the most important thing. one can be a great coder, but if one's story sucks, one's mod sucks.

#190116 WK interjections in SoA

Posted by nethrin on 24 February 2005 - 03:04 PM in IE Help

but isn't chapter 7 suldanessellar?  and aren't you stuck in the city in chapter 7?  so I don't think it matters.  it's impossible, IIRC, to do watcher's keep in chapter 7.

nevermind.  simgding0 fixed it.

but, just in case anyone else wants to know how to do it....

in your J.d file, put GlobalLT("Chapter","GLOBAL",7)
and then in your 25J.d file, put GlobalGT("Chapter","GLOBAL",7)

then just double up the interjections in each of the files.

#190021 WK interjections in SoA

Posted by nethrin on 24 February 2005 - 05:22 AM in IE Help

we want to have saerileth interject into various parts of the watcher's keep quest, whether you do it in SoA or ToB.  however, while testing the saerileth mod, we found that when it's time for her to interject, the dialogue simply ends.  the bioware npcs do *not* interject into WK in SoA.  their interjections are coded in their 25.d files with a GlobalGT("Chapter","Global",7) check. is this what we need to do for saerileth?  this would therefore make her eligible to interject into WK *only* in ToB, which is exactly what we don't want to do.

can anyone help?

#166070 Yasraena NPC mod released!

Sillara of the Tamari and I are pleased to announce the release of our third mod, the Yasraena NPC mod. Download it here.

Her forum is here.

#162188 Yasraena

Posted by nethrin on 12 October 2004 - 05:55 PM in IE Modding Discussion

Yasraena is a rather confused drow. She was born a female noble, but her house was temporarily out of favor. Her mother did not want it to be known that she had just had a seventh daughter because Yasraena, due to the disfavor of Lolth on her house, was rejected by Lolth (that is the way drow spell the name, at least according to the Drow of the Underdark book). A daughter not allowed to become a priestess would be an enormous shame. So Yasraena was shuffled off for the first few years of her life, trained to believe in the superiority of females but rarely experiencing the benefits herself. She showed great aptitude for sword-play, so when she was old enough, she was disguised as a male and sent into Melee Magthere, the male fighters' academy.

During Yasraena's time at Melee Magthere, two things happened which changed the course of her life. She met Divalir, her master at the academy. He taught her more than sword-play. He taught her how to be good. (This bit will be explained in the mod.) The second thing was that her mother regained the favor Lolth. Yasraena's disguise was then less important, and indeed, her being a female was rather an open secret by then. Her mother let it be known that upon Yasraena's graduation from the academy, she would then be placed in Arach-Tinilith, the school for priestesses. To avoid this, Divalir tried to get Yasraena to the surface.

So, having been raised as an oddity female, a girl-child not allowed to serve Lolth, then been disguised as a male for several years, Yasraena's way of thinking is muddled at times. She is extremely proud, trusts with difficulty, is courageous, and tries to be stoic.

#162130 BG2 Sound files

thanks avenger! that helped. we isolated the *.wav file, renamed it, put it in our new NPCs audio folder, and associated the sound with a certain banter line. all works great. :D

#158365 *USE* the equiped weapon!! %&()·$=/)

Posted by nethrin on 30 September 2004 - 02:45 PM in IE Help

Thanks for this code.

I think it will work for Yasraena. See, we want to take Yasraena's undroppable weapons and upgrade them during the game. We're thinking of doing this, in the .dlg file of whomever makes her new weapons:

~TakePartyItem("FIREFLOW")DestroyItem("FIREFLOW")GiveItemCreate("FIREFLO1","Yasraena",0,0,0)~

Then in her YASRAENA.baf, we put this:

IF
HasItem("FIREFLO1",Myself)
!HasItemEquipedReal("FIREFLO1",Myself)
THEN
RESPONSE #100
Equip("FIREFLO1",Myself)
END

Now, help us out. There are TWO weapons we need to do this for: Fireflower & Ironkiss. We need to use this code, if it's even correct, for BOTH weapons, but how do we do it so that one is equipped in her main hand and the other is equipped in her off hand?

no no no no dorotea.  didn't mean to bash anyone or make anyone feel bashed.  just want to make sure that TSUJATHA is not unnecessarily bashed.  as for the atmosphere question: I don't know.  this is fantasy.  so in answer to any scientific question such as that, I guess there are two viable answers: "it's magic" or "it's fantasy."  no more explanation required.

side note: I'm fairly new to this forum thing, but I've noticed something interesting.  people always go on and on about NO FLAMING! but I have seen people be real assholes in their posts, but as long as they have enough emoticons in their message, it's all right..... hmmmm.   :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D            :P  :P  B)  :P  :P  :P  :D  :D

#154764 Tsujatha Mod Released v4

Posted by nethrin on 21 September 2004 - 08:29 AM in IE Modding Discussion

as a co-developer of Gilalion (Tsujatha's world), here's my copperssss:

silver eyes and golden skin are RACIAL characteristics of the Tamari Elves. sorry, but they ALL look that way. Tsujatha is not special.

right! the 17 is the ONLY non-mage high stat. what . . . is . . . the . . . fuss? and don't bring up WIS either, cuz a necromancer is required to have a 16 WIS.

oh, and the bioware NPCs--they can do no wrong, eh? they're so perfectly crafted, eh? oh all glory to them, eh? well, news flash--they're illegal.

anomen's an illegal dual-classed fighter/cleric. (cf. 12 WIS)

aerie's an illegal multi-classed cleric/mage. (cf. elf)

there's always one way to keep tsujatha from bothering you: don't download him. and if you retort with "I haven't and never will!" then what's the problem??

#151724 Kindrek NPC mod for BGII--SoA & ToB

Posted by nethrin on 12 September 2004 - 07:38 AM in IE Modding Discussion

install blind.

a bit too much metaphor coming out in me.

I mean, install without knowledge of the mod--in essence, blind corresponds to not understanding.

Roc is the name I chose for the race before I ever saw a "Roc" in the monstrous manual. ok.

and for me, once I name something something, that's it for me.

awake: is that an animated gif? cuz when I look into that eye, it seems to dim, change color, or becomes slightly altered in some inexplicable way.

#150053 Kindrek NPC mod for BGII--SoA & ToB

Posted by nethrin on 06 September 2004 - 08:02 PM in IE Modding Discussion

I would like to take up valuable space on this forum by introducing Kindrek, a non-romanceable NPC for BGII--SoA & ToB.

Kindrek is a wizard-slaying, magic-hating Roc (original race from my campaign setting) who will join your group in the City Gates.

I know: another non-Faerun NPC.  This is getting ridiculous!  But I don't like using other people's material.....

Kindrek has extensive banters with most of the Bioware NPCs, several interjections throughout SoA and ToB, a couple cutscenes, and a ChatPack (works on the same principle as the PC-initiated FlirtPack).

Kindrek is very powerful, but he has several potentially-fatal weaknesses......
