How much would a common, ordinary citizen worry about the possibility of robbing a temple? Would he protest, but live with it once it's done, or would he be inclined to worry about retribution? Does serving one god/dess (Chauntea) provide protection from the potential wrath of another? Would potentially angering one of the two be more worrisome than angering the other?

I'd say that besides worry of retribution, he wouldn't mind about robbing Talos or any Evil god too much. Commoners live in "peace", and try to avoid troble, though, so he'd probably rather not.
My guess would be that he'd object strongly so far as leaving the party to robbing a temple of a good deity. Good deities feed the poor and help the community. It'd take some smooth talking to get him to tolerate it , and doubtful you'd get him to help.
Hope this helps. Just my 2c. Cantrip.

And no, priest of different clergy aren't safe from one another, so why would that apply to gods?
Priests simply believe (wrongly, usually) their god would protect them.
I don't think he'd be very worried after the robbery, but sooner, for sure.

Chauntea has at times been intimate with Lathander, who is her closest ally amongst the gods. One of her worst enemies is Talos (whose violent storms destroy crops, etc.). This quest would likely be supported by a follower of Chauntea. Priests of Chauntea try to avoid destructive behavior and seek peaceful resolution to conflict. But in this incredibly bloody saga it's really not feasible to have a total peacenik in the party, so I'd say it's fine.
