Maybe someone could include your answer to my directory install question in a FAQ or the PDF because it's never answered anywhere. It's probably become old hat now to all you guys who've worked with BW forever but to someone new it's not very obvious.

I think there's a bug in the screen where you can "update download-links": If I click on that, and then cancel, I can then not continue or do anything other than exit.

Do not use it.
It is of no use anyway, since the BWS gets the updates at the startup, it is just a pretty useless button now.

Hello boys and girls,
My problem is that I only have internet access on a machine where I have literally no rights and want to install BiG on another machine (with no internet access).. Suggestions on how to go about this and getting the latest version etc?

So far I've tried wgetting all the URL's in BWS_20090526.7z and then dumping it over on the other comp and run BWS; but the BWS mod versions don't correspond to the ones in BWS_20090526.7z which means I get a trunk load of missmatches when I get to the extraction bit of the BWS (just at a glance it would seem that there's also some mods that were in the older version but are no longer and vice versa).. I reckon if someone could tell me how I could "manually update" BWS to the latest configs then it should work ok..

Suggestions?

Like this:

If you can open the archive, go to BiG World Setup\Config\Setup.ini, go to section [Faults] and remove the entries/lines for the mods that are "stubborn". Start the BiG World Setup again and it should continue.

If you want to, have a look at the BiG World Setup\Config\Mod.ini, search for the filename to go to the mods section and compare the size that is stated and the size of the file in the download-folder. Note that you have to go to properties and compare the bytesize, not KB or MB.

Of course you could just use the manual downloads and use the BiG World Install.bat from this pack, just remember to have this too.

Won't that produce the same results? There will be version mismatches; the BiG Setup and the BiG Install pack are both dated 02MAY2009 whereas the latest update package is 26MAY2009... I just need know how to manually apply that update package to the BWS..

Get the downloads from the Kerzenburg Linkupdate-package.
(So - yes - the links you have in the install-package are old for sure. )

Just for your information: The update-package package is just an update of the script-code itself, the update for the links come from the Kerzenburg, since the links come ftom one of the topics there.
To prevent some funny things like installing not wanted components (since a change in the component numbers) you may want to wait a few days until the version 8 comes out...

Sorry, my bad; I wrote the wrong file in earlier posts.. I meant that I wgot the files in BWS_Linkupdates-20090703_0.7z.. This file contains what seems to be patches to be applied to the BWS\Config\Mod.ini.. How do I do that manually?

Or wait a few days until the version 8 comes out...

Can't do due to lack of internet access..

Hmm, open include\17_testing.au3

Replace the existing functions with this:

Func _Test_CheckRequieredFiles_BG1()
Return SetError(0, 0, 2)
EndFunc

Func _Test_CheckRequieredFiles_BG2()
Return SetError(0, 0, 2)
EndFunc

This should bypass the tests for the installations. Not tested, but it should work.
Select any folder you want as your install-path, the check should always be positive.
This way, you are able to use the BWS without an installation.

Ok, thanks, but I'm a problem child.. The internet connection I have is kinda crappy; it took me 16 hrs to wget the files so I'm not redoing that again..

Another quick question; does BWS use the weidu211.zip to overwrite all the existing setup-whatevers? Or does it rely on weidu's internal autoupdate? It was so long since I fidgeted with this; do I need to do a script to run after extracting everything that replaces all the setup-whatevers with the latest weidu?

Manually and manually, cat Update.ini | sed > tmp; wget --content-disposition tmp got the downloads going automatically.. (there are a few that you have to get manually though)
Then dumped them in the BiG World Downloads directory, problem is that it doesn't match what BWS is looking for since BWS uses the outdated link list..

So if I run the old install.bat after extracting everything there won't be any mismatches because I have newer versions?

Well, usually not many mods components are redesignated, so there is not much changes between the versions... but you have to be wary of them, like the KonTwk's mismatched component numbers for example.

You could also create a key cd5 in the alias-section in the baldur.ini.

Lots of people had problems when the check was not there and were never able to install BGT, so we created one. You will also have to edit the batch-installer, since it has a check of it's own.

And before I forget: *!?$ those distributers that do not use standards.

This check has nothing to do with backup & restore.
