I'm going to take another try at a solo run through of Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn and Throne of Bhaal.
I am looking for some advice.

First of all: which mods are "must-haves" for a solo run-through?
These can be general tweaks, added kits, class tweaks, cool encounters, good quests, interesting items, ...

What I would like to get out of my playthrough is first and foremost a fun experience. I know this means having a big challenge for some of you or a lot of banter for others, but for I will try to define what I like about a solo run.
I don't mind having a very powerful character. It's nice to have a challenge of course, but I also like to cut through opposition like butter. But a challenge is necessary too of course.
For this, I will probably set the experience cap higher. Otherwise, I will hit the cap around the Underdark, as I have had in my previous solo run with an Inquisitor. I would have liked to be able to progress a bit more, but not to infinity of course.
Having powerful weapons is in the same category. I like having powerful equipment, but most importantly, it should not tip the balance to TOO easy. And they have to fit into the flavour of the game of course, so no Lord of the Rings weapons in my games, thank you.

Extra quests are always welcome. I understand these will probably have the effect of hitting the cap again pretty soon in the game, but so be it. I would like to keep a challenge, so while writing this, I am thinking if I shouldn't just leave the XP cap where it is... Something to think about.

Are there any kits/classes apart from an Inquisitor or Sorcerer (which I quite liked) that are worth trying out for a solo run? I was also thinking about doing an Evil character for once. Might be a good change from my usual good characters.

Rounding up: looking for a bunch of mods (with install order if possible) to have a fun solo runthrough, but keeping with the spirit of the game.
(SCSII is a certain install)

That's a quite large question...
And not to direct you to the wrong patterns, I'll just give two mods.
Geomantic Sorcerer Kit, it's balanced but powerful class kit.
And Widescreen Mod, the absolutely last mod you will install, or your GUI might get %&/'d up.

Thank you all for the suggestions, I am looking at each of them right now.
The widescreen mod, I use all the time. Couldn't miss it anymore.

I'll plug my mod, Wheels of Prophecy (at G3) - it messes with the structure of ToB chapter 9.

Registered now.

I've done some research and I've come up with this install order:
(after SoA+ToB+patch of course!)
G3 Fixpack
Tower of Deception
Shadows over Soubar
Dungeon Crawl
Underrepresented items
Item Upgrade
Unfinished Business
Spell-50
Wild Mage Additions (full)
Oversight
Rogue Rebalancing
Refinements
G3 Tweaks

Any stuff I need to look out for or components I shouldn't install?
If there are other components I can install, they are always welcome!

Well, if you look at the BWP.pdfs and come to the conclusion that you want those, I have no good advice, as you don't have more than one BP-megamod if I remember right  , so you might not need the BP_Worldmap ...

But, as you said "SCSII is a certain install", but still you don't have it in the list
And whatever else you didn't pick up from our suggestions.

Also it's quite much nowadays up to oneself on how much you want to go all out solo-party etc. rule tweaks, as there are quite much choses to make there, but if you go totally solo, they might just make your game lag more... And even though I have not played the Dungeon Crawl, I believe that it's done with a party, so what's up with that?

Your suggestion of the Geomantic Sorcerer will also be added.
I don't want a BP install, but I've looked through the BWP pdf, but not all these mods have enough notes to state what other mod they are incompatible with.

SCSII, I have left out and replaced by Tactics, with which I'm more familiar.
Widescreen is a given, so I've taken all your suggestions.
The mods I didn't add are those with romances, as I'm not interested in them.

I do want to create a stable and extensive install, so I can play different games with that one install without having to install again to play another game.
So suggestions are always welcome and pointing out possible pitfalls even more so.

If you'd like a different feel for some of the areas, you could try my alternate soundtrack mod. Here.
