#580602 Multimod installation following BWP guidelines...latest attempt

Posted by dabus on 26 August 2015 - 01:10 PM in Mega Mod Help

He's running with Win 7, so who cares if he uses a treadmill, 8086, a pencil case or a mac to make it run?

#580930 Successful install of BGT with new D&D Anthology

Posted by dabus on 11 September 2015 - 11:16 AM in BGT Archive

Setups extract the files during install, you usually never touch a cab-file by hand.

#581185 BiG World Setup (an attempt to update the program)

Posted by dabus on 25 September 2015 - 07:18 AM in Mega Mod Help

There's an internal table, linking the treeview-items that you click in the GUI to a modname, component and so on.
The internal dependency table also uses those. It's just speeds up the checking if you know that Sarah is treeview-item 300 and it needs ROT which is item 199 and you don't have to check which of the 3000 items represents Sarahs or the ROT mod.

If the BWS lists dependencies and the result for a mods name does not return a name but an empty string, the GUI-item was not linked / built (or something else is messed up).
The issue for a missing item is most likely that the dependency does not fit your language selection and so I put this in so you don't start to look for something that most likely is not there.

You can click the item and see the text below the listview e.g. Sandrah's Extensions needs Kivan: SandrahNPC (component 11) needs Kivan (component 100).
If you go back you should not be able to find that dependency (component / mod).

If you can find it, remove the dependency and go on. I can load your selection and go on without this issue.

#581192 BiG World Setup (an attempt to update the program)

Posted by dabus on 25 September 2015 - 09:24 AM in Mega Mod Help

You can click the item and see the text below the listview. You will see the "key/description at the beginning, ending at the colon.
Example: "Have Kagain in BG2 and ToB: BG1NPCSoA (component 40 or 41) and BG1NPCSoA (component 110) are installed together."

Look if you can find the dependency in your selection screen. In this example, BG1NPCSoa does not contain component 110.
If you can find it, just remove the faulty dependency.

There is a big section in the BiG World Setup\Config\BWPGame.ini called [Connections]. All dependencies and conflicts are listed there.
The key of each entry is the description that will be shown at the bottom of the selection-screen. The value of the keys is quite flexible but has a simple system so most settings may be covered.
Example: Have Kagain in BG2 and ToB=D:BG1NPCSoA(40|41)&BG1NPCSoA(110)

Delete the line and restart the BWS and the dependency will be removed from the BWS if you wish to continue your install.

Look at the docs\Faq.htm for further details if you'd need Imps solution.

#581443 Can I compress WED files?

Posted by dabus on 11 October 2015 - 04:13 PM in IE Help

Well using tools like 7zip would bring it down from 139.3 mb to around 31 kb. But since it does, I guess there's really something that might be squeezed out by using tools to create/modify wed-files -- another wed-files ratio was about 1/3 of the original size.

#581520 The 'official' BWP Fixpack thread

Posted by dabus on 15 October 2015 - 10:56 AM in Mega Mod Help

Coincidentally, this part caught my attention:
CA_AddDown=http://www.arcanecoast.ru/download/BWFixpack_aurora_fix.7z
CA_AddSave=BWFixpack_aurora_fix.7z
CA_AddSize=1259
CA_AddTest=BiG World Fixpack\aurora\t-kobold.tpa.patch:-
Is there a fix to BWP Fixpack on Arcanecoast? If so, how comes it wasn't incorporated into, ugh, Fixpack itself? :)

Just for the record:
CA_ means that this is only used when building the mod.ini for the config-folder CA, which contains the BWS files for Classic Adventures.
You can also find other examples like stuff that's used for IWD1 only if you look into the global 1pp-file.
If you look into the BWP's mod.ini, you won't find the CA_lines. If you configure CA and check the mod.ini, you'll find.
AddDown=http://www.arcanecoast.ru/download/BWFixpack_aurora_fix.7z
AddSave=BWFixpack_aurora_fix.7z
AddSize=1259
AddTest=BiG World Fixpack\aurora\t-kobold.tpa.patch:-

Those are very likely lines that were in the games mod.inis before we merged them into the global ini-files.
Maybe there are some more of these leftovers.

#581532 Follow up questions on Big World Tactical Build

Lost Crossroads Spell Pack for BG2. You can search it in the upper right search-box.

#581545 So... failure with Big World Tactic build

Posted by dabus on 16 October 2015 - 08:29 AM in Mega Mod Help

Just provide / extract the files yourself so the BWS can find them.
In this case, move the files from inside the generalized_biffing-master-folder into the BG2-folder.
So it looks like BG2-folder \ generalized_biffing \ tra + generalized_biffing.tp2.
Restart and resume the install or just push the button p.

#581548 So... failure with Big World Tactic build

Posted by dabus on 16 October 2015 - 08:53 AM in Mega Mod Help

Well, if you look at the help-text on the right side, it's more or less the same... (yeah, have to rub it in).
When the extraction of the archives is done, the program should recognize the missing pieces and continue with the installation. If that's not the case, please heed the following:

You can close and restart this test as many times as you like.
The files have to unpacked in that manner, that a setup (a WeiDU-executable) can be found in the BG2-folder. If it is located in a sub-folder, move its content from the sub-folder into the BG2-folder.
There can be archives in an archive. Look if you have to extract another file.

#581989 Quick Question About BWS Settings

Posted by dabus on 31 October 2015 - 01:50 PM in Mega Mod Help

Really? Well, one is offers customized install (click components) and the other leaves the install itself to the BWPs install.bat and you can install what that offers.
Also checking the chose mods and components button would have been much faster than typing this question. ;)

#583648 BiG World Setup (an attempt to update the program)

Posted by dabus on 11 December 2015 - 07:39 AM in Mega Mod Help

BWS says right at the end:

Preparing BiG World Debug.7z for easier bug-reports...

Faq says:

To help debugging some errors, a file called BiG World Debug.7z will be created that includes a slightly stripped version of the installation-messages. It well help guys to give you better support.

You can find it in the BG2-folder...

You can also use the BiG World Upload Debug.txt or BiG World Install Debug.txt in the logs-subfolder, with the Upload-thing being a stripped down version that does not show ogg/mp3/tis-decoding output. But as said, 7z is smaller and better for faster up-/downloads.

#584019 BWS for non-Windows OS

Posted by dabus on 23 December 2015 - 02:42 PM in Mega Mod Help

@subtledoctor:

That sentence (it's 2015) is so odd when...

...most talk here goes around modding a game that is "stone old" in terms of the fast paced computer age. Fascinating that we even talk about it.

...Linux is even relying on an "api-translator" to even play the original game on Linux.

...Linux having trouble to gather more folks than those that use Windows XP or X, which is trying to give the developers your data on a silver plate.

...Linux not being supported by a lot of mods that were essential to build that fat cat most guys were after for a long time -- at least the last time I was considering some kind of shell-script-creation a few years ago; it may have changed until now.

Everyone was free to create something compatible to support the OS that WeiDU runs on, but it seems like nobody that saw those flaws got enough time/endurance to do that. So my guess would be that Linux users just have the short stick here. A mac guy tried to create a conversion script for the BiG World Installpack, but as that batch got more and more out of the ordinary, it was discontinued.

Please mind that I've used Linux when kde and gnome had an 0 as the major version number and I still use Linux for surfing on an older PC. So I'm not against using Linux. It's just the same oddity as guys wanting to use a mac for business and still want their windows office applications to run on it and use parallels or bootcamp to do that and me being a bit bored to consider writing this. :)
