#161427 Shapeshifters anew

Posted by MythicalChicken on 10 October 2004 - 09:37 AM in Refinements

I'm afraid to mention this ... heh heh ... recovering powergamer that I am.

The only Bioware script I use religiously is "paladin melee." For shits and giggles I turned Jaheira into a Shapeshifter and as usual made her my primary healer.

I assigned "paladin melee" for her script out of habit ... Imagine my surprise when the oversized dog started healing folks.

Bug or feature? Please tell me feature :-)

#157464 Problems with the tornado spell with the druidicso

Posted by MythicalChicken on 28 September 2004 - 04:18 PM in Mod Resurrections

I'll second the tornado bug.

Really made me sad ... I really wanted to use that spell.

Some invisible creature appears that you can move around, stays around for a little bit, and then goes away. I was a little underwhelmed. :-)

#157454 Uninstalling BP

Posted by MythicalChicken on 28 September 2004 - 03:53 PM in Big Picture

personally, whenever i need to uninstall BP i uninstall BGII entirely and start again. each of the components come with uninstallers, AFAIK, but i find it simpler to start with a clean install.

Can't I just uninstall everything and then paste my chitin, dialog.tlk and override back in?

With so much mentioned about installing all of BP's tweaks, I haven't found anything on uninstalling this. How convoluted is the process?

BTW, I do have backups of my Chitin key, dialoge.tlk and overide folder

#153694 Sorcerer Changes

Posted by MythicalChicken on 18 September 2004 - 01:07 PM in Refinements

This being a thread about the sorcerer, I want to say that I don't like too much that CHA bonus from Inner Focus, because it's just an aestethycal improvement. It does not matter at all for the class.  :P

Funny you mention this ... I've been thinking about the druidic sorcerer kit: a mod which would've made 4 awesome kits, but all that available to one char is crazy, plus I hate exp penalities.

The coolest thing about that kit, IMO, was how they reduced the intial number of spells a dr. sorc could cast, but balanced it by making charmisa work in the same manner as wisdom does for priests.

It makes sense to me that a sorc's abilities would rely on charisma, given the way they learn spells. It don't require much intelligence to wake up one day and go "hey, I can cast timestop!"

I'm new to the modding thing, but if I can figure out the Dr. Sorc's code I'd like to implement this minor-but-major change to sorcs.

Making it compabitle with refinements, of course. I just downloaded it and love the changes y'all made (well, heh heh, except for the sorcerer).

Thanks so much and VERY much looking forward to Shockwave!

#152887 Journal Entries for PSM?

Posted by MythicalChicken on 15 September 2004 - 08:47 PM in Mod Resurrections

LOL That's a way to throw down the gauntlet, eh?

I haven't played through the mod in its entirety yet, but I'll give it a go and see what I can do. I'll be in touch.

#152359 Journal Entries for PSM?

Posted by MythicalChicken on 14 September 2004 - 12:25 PM in Mod Resurrections

The topic says it all: can we ever get journal entries for the various quests in the Planar Sphere? I tend to forget what it is I need to do if I take a break.

#152119 Possible Quests

Posted by MythicalChicken on 13 September 2004 - 06:18 PM in SMM / RM

She's a Goddess. Politics are not an issue for her. ;) However, they might have some sort of understanding with her Church, and that could lead to an interesting conflict.

Again, I don't have an ADD background, but wouldn't the goddess of magic have some problem with a group that essentially polices magic in Amn? Why would she let them do her job for her (assuming I understand her duties correctly). I've always wondered how the CW do what they do in the first place.

#150008 Possible Quests

Posted by MythicalChicken on 06 September 2004 - 03:48 PM in SMM / RM

Hey guys,

I thought of this more as a political thing ... wouldn't the CW have some agreement with Mystra to be able to police magic in Amn, anyway, since that's basically her job as I understand it? Wouldn't a priest of Mystra in the area upset their political standing and authority? Just wondering.

One slight problem: the Cowled Wizards wouldn't want to upset Mystra too much, otherwise she might prevent them from being able to cast spells :).

LMAO

Duh.

I don't know a whole lot about the coding element to all this (item and spell tweaking are as far as I've gotten), but I'm interested in learning and I'd be glad to help in any way.

#148123 Possible Quests

Posted by MythicalChicken on 31 August 2004 - 09:47 PM in SMM / RM

Been thinking about a quest to help beef up the storytelling value of this mod. I have no idea if BobTokyo even wants to tackle anything like this for this mod, but I was pondering ideas (please bear in mind I have little AD&D background when you read this):

Some Ideas:

-- The Cowled Wizards are holding one of Mystra's high priests for breaking their laws: I can't imagine Mystra would be widely accepted in Amn. The predominant clerics in Amn (Lathander/Helm/Talos) have a mixed reaction: in one sense, there's some satisfaction in knowing that Mystra cannot gain a solid foothold in the area, but on the other hand they're concerned that the Cowled Wizards might begin to view clerical spellcasting in the same harsh light. Druids could also be concerned for Cowled Wizard influence ... aside from worries of persecution a la Trademeet, some would have some disdain for magic in general, others might view magic as part of the Nature's balance.

Also, as I said in the feedback board a minimum Wisdom score wouldn't be uncalled for.

Given all that, here's my speculation of how it could break down. I don't know how to code much, but after being around here a while I know how complicated this could be. I'm just brainstorming here:

Either the PC could approach the Witness of Mystra, or if meeting a Wisdom check another Witness of Mystra could spawn and speak directly to you in the next area you enter after you first leave the slums in Chapter 2. Basically, either one would note your potential for being one of Mystra's followers and ask for your help.

Either Witness would explain one of their high priests has been captured by the Cowled Wizards and they're detaining him for questioning for 2 days before incarcerating him (in Spellhold, but the PC wouldn't know that). Within 2 days you must set him free or else he goes to Spellhold.

Here's where it could branch out further: the PC could be diplomatic and convince the other clerical sects in Amn that the Cowled Wizards could prove a threat to their livelihood, at which point the PC and representatives of various churches demand his release. Fearing an inconvenient political and costly clash, the Cowled Wizards agree to let him go.

Of you could go by yourself to the Cowled Wizard folks in the Gov't District and they agree to release him if you knock off some politically inconveninet opponent. Either way, the high priest in question would be released and then relocate somewhere outside the city. Opening meeting him, he would instruct you in Mystra's teachings and give you some nifty item.

The PC could capture and interograte a Cowled Wizard (perhaps the golem building dude in Umar Hills could tell you after you find him mimic blood, or a random Cowled Wizard could spawn somewhere doing somehting he shouldn't be doing, and the PC can blackmail him into the information), discover where the CW are detaining him prior to TPing him to Spellhold (maybe one of the little used areas near the Underdark exit), go there, and kick some Cowled Wizard ass.

If 2 days pass, the priest is taken to Spellhold, and if you elect to fake mental illness to get inside, you can talk to him and be taught by him there, which is later on in the game obviously.

Other ideas that cross my mind are less complex -- helping the Witness find a bulding in the city to serve as a makeshift temple, kicking someone's ass somewhere for some reason (perhaps the Witness' symbol of Mystra was stolen from him), convincing a reluctant Cowled Wizard to "open his heart" to Mystra.

Anyway, some ideas. Not sure whether they're worth a damn or not, or even possible. Let me know what y'all think.

#148115 Comments, questions, feedback

Posted by MythicalChicken on 31 August 2004 - 09:03 PM in SMM / RM

Hey guys,

I said it at the PPG forum, I love this mod a lot -- adds a whole new dimension to my playing.

I'm glad that Druid/Cleric spells are being divided up, and more books will allow for some picking and choosing.

Some suggestions:

-- A minimum Wisdom score, something relatively high, as a prerequsite to using the books -- maybe the store merchant could do a wisdom check to even let you get to the shop screen, or start the quest if ever a quest is made? To access Druid spells, shouldn't they at least be a neutral alignment of some kind?

-- It would be nice to change the class title on the Records page to "Chosen of Mystra" of "Chosen of <Something Druidic Here>, similar to how Druids get the "Great Druid" title changed after completeing their stronghold quest. With druids, this happens regardless of their kit and doesn't change anything. The kit descriptions are still available on the tab at the bottom of the page.

I really like the idea of the psuedo-class change happening in-game ... it's a much smoother path than adding a kit to the Char Creation Screen, and potentially makes for better storytelling. All the scripting involved in the Druidic Sorcerer kit in character creation/opening moments of the game rather annoyed me.

More Complicated Things to Consider:

-- A quest or series of smaller quests as a combination of both initation and training (deserves a separate topic)

-- It'd be cool to give the Chosen of Mystra folks some kind of HLA too; let the Druidic Mages have access to shapeshifting, the Clerical Mages (or whatever) get something else (don't play many clerics). Or make something completely new that ties into the whole God-worship/Magic mixture.

-- Appropriate NPCs noting the tweaked class. The Clerics in the Temple District and Faldorn are obvious examples. I especially would think Faldorn would freak at the the idea of a mage -- who bends the natural law to his will -- having access to druidic powers. <Laughs> Imagine what she would think about a Bard!

-- Almost all of the bioware 16 would probably have things to say about the PC accepting Mystra's blessing or whatever. The Druids and the Clerics would, especially. Would Valygar be more or less approving of a magic user recieving the direct blessing of Mystra? If you change her class, shouldn't Aerie also mention Mystra in some of her banters (can't remember if she does or not when she's talking about the Gods she worships)

Thanks again for this mod, BobTokyo. I'm really am digging it.

#135233 Unmentioned Problem with PS Stronghold

Posted by MythicalChicken on 25 July 2004 - 08:05 AM in Mod Resurrections

I had a similar problem due (I think) to a bad install; all of the doors our of the control room were missing. I used CLUAed myself back to the main area of the sphere. Everything worked after that.

You might try just CLUAing yourself back to AR0400.

I gave that a shot -- it got me out of BAator, but I still can't activate Teos (that's an issue on another thread -- are the two issues related?). ALso, when I go back out the sphere's door I end up in Baator again.

"I did some testing on it and it is like this: The PSM Mod deactivates all Trigger from the original Planar Sphere."

Actually, I'm having the same problem.

I did ctrl+4 to find the triggers and I keep walking over them as best I can.
