#196905 BGIII

Posted by neriana on 30 March 2005 - 01:19 PM in Baldur's Gate Series

Atari is a moneyproducing machine, and no good RPG has ever come from them, so we fanatic fans can begin shivering.

I've never played it, but I thought Gothic 2 was supposed to be a great game?

View Post

It is.

NWN isn't bad either, and Troika is no more, thank goodness. Atari's just a publisher, anyway; the developer is what's important here. I've never understood why some people think it's so awful for a game company to behave like a business. It could be a lot worse -- EA Games could have the license. They're a programming sweatshop.

The PC's mother being a priestess of Bhaal was a retcon, and a really horribly stupid one. BG3 may not even have anything to do with the child of Bhaal thing at all. It's impossible to know what it will be about and whether it will be good or bad at this stage.

#182410 PST for a female Nameless One

Posted by neriana on 17 January 2005 - 02:01 PM in Planescape: Torment

FFG is beautiful, TNO is most certainly not. Isn't there another alternative here? Out of all the characters, Grace is the one I can most readily see as bisexual, since it's established that her "lusts" are more intellectual than anything. I'd personally rather have a romanceable Dak'kon, and leave FFG alone. She is very much a female and feminine character, and I can't really see changing that. (She's also my favorite character, so -- BLASPHEMY! ;))

#182207 IWD1 final battle (spoilers)

Posted by neriana on 17 January 2005 - 12:21 AM in Icewind Dale Series

I found it very difficult, but I didn't have either of the expansions (need to get those some day). All but two of my characters ended up very dead when I finally won it. So, if you do change it, perhaps the mod should check for character levels before generating more/nastier monsters.

#180863 Just wondering if this script will work

Posted by neriana on 12 January 2005 - 03:36 AM in IE Help

I have about 12-15 mods installed.

Some won't uninstall -> Vanim
Some say they aren't installed, but surely run -> Kelsey SoA
Some can just be uninstalled -> Kido

This is why I can't just uninstall everything. Even though it might be smarter. Certainly because of the first line, somethings do not wish to be uninstalled.

Somehow it has gotten messy. I rather think I will redo he entire installation. Just to be sure.

View Post

Use more than one installation in the future. Keep a back-up copy of SoA + ToB + Patch + Baldurdash. Use a separate copy to mod with, and don't put any mods but the one you're working on in it. Then use a separate copy to play with. Here are the instructions: http://forums.gibber...p?showtopic=291 Further instructions are here: http://forums.gibber...wtopic=650&st=0

Deleting the dialogue.tlk will make your game not run. Deleting the override folder will... make the game not run as well, or certainly make it crash like crazy. Non-WeiDU mods are a messy pain and should not be used by anyone who does not know precisely what they are getting into.

#176963 Happy Patches?

Posted by neriana on 21 December 2004 - 11:32 PM in IE Help

Both "happy" and "multi-romance" are also likely to cause huge bugs. When a mod by Wesley Weimer can break the game, it's not something you want to go around trying to do by yourself.

#175728 help plz

Posted by neriana on 16 December 2004 - 01:23 PM in IE Help

I use SK as one step in creating NPCs. It's easy, and I've never had it mess anything up yet. On the other hand, I've found NI to be seriously painful for creating anything. SK and DLTCEP (mostly the latter) for creation, NI for checking stuff.

Use what you have found works for you.

#171276 Making an NPC go hostile and attack

Posted by neriana on 23 November 2004 - 05:59 PM in IE Help

That didn't work, but this KINDA did.

ActionOverride("NKNIVE",Enemy())
ActionOverride("NKNIVER",Enemy())
ActionOverride("NKNIVER",Enemy())
ActionOverride("NKNIVER",Enemy())

I used this (surronding code not shown, but don't worry, it worked)

I have three "copies" of an NPC fighter with death variable KNIVER and one captain with KNIVE.

This made the captain and only one fighter go hostile.

What did I do wrong? Perhaps I misunderstood your instructions?

View Post

Change the death variables of the fighters to NKNIVER1, NKNIVER2, and NKNIVER3, and change the Enemy() code accordingly. It should work then. Right now, the game is just referencing the same .cre three times.

#171040 Dialogue.. and the next step?

Posted by neriana on 22 November 2004 - 02:03 PM in IE Help

Ok, i have read the basic tutorial for WeiDU, and have come to understand how to create dialogue files ETC. (I was thinking i would be able to create dialogue with the TEAMBG dlg creator then copy and paste but apparently not.. that's a few hours of my life i'd like back)

The tutorial i read was by Ghreyfain titled "A beginner's guide to NPC creation with WeiDU" and was just about finished with creating his "Vondothejust" character, when he suddenly told me to 'create a file called vondothejust.tp2' does anybody know what a .tp2 file is and how i create one?

Thankyou for your patience

View Post

It's a text file saved with the extension .tp2 instead of .txt.

Posting questions on the forum where the tutorial is hosted is always a good idea, by the way :).

#170887 Dialogue.. and the next step?

Posted by neriana on 21 November 2004 - 05:56 PM in IE Help

Besides asking for help and reading the WeiDU tutorials, you should also familiarize yourself with the code of other mods. The one-day NPC Ghareth is ideal for this purpose, IMO. http://www.pocketpla...d=113&Itemid=84

#170881 NPC spawning problem in Copper Coronet

Posted by neriana on 21 November 2004 - 05:44 PM in IE Help

IF
  Global("R#Tabi","AR0406",1)
THEN
  RESPONSE #100
    SetGlobal("RTabi","AR0406",2)
    CreateCreature("r#tiva",[900.803],3)
END

For some reason, the NPC won't spawn. All variables are set correctly. What is wrong?

View Post

Is this the exact code? If so, you've got two different globals when you should only be dealing with one. You're missing a #.

As for not spawning, we probably will need a bit more info here. What's in your .tp2? Are you using a saved game that has already loaded the Copper Coronet?

#170782 Clueless Again

Posted by neriana on 21 November 2004 - 01:14 PM in IE Help

I'm afraid I don't know, and the person who can help you most is not allowed to post here.

There's a few other modders in the world, too.

None who know as much about dialogue coding, and none who were available to help immediately last night.

#170642 Quick question

Posted by neriana on 20 November 2004 - 08:16 PM in IE Help

SAY ~Tis none of your concern.~
<I want to insert a comment from a bodyguard here>
IF ~~ THEN EXIT

How do I make a character other than the one I first spoke to, speak?

This should help you out:
http://www.weidu.org...eiDU.html#htoc9

If you still have problems, post everything you want everyone in that particular dialogue block to say, and I'll show you how to code it.

#170641 Clueless Again

Posted by neriana on 20 November 2004 - 08:14 PM in IE Help

INTERJECT_COPY_TRANS doesn't accept extra transitions, like replies. If you just use normal INTERJECT, it should work.

This is passed along from He Who Shall Not Be Named, by the way. AKA Jason Compton.

#168621 IWD2 sorceror or druid vs. BG2 sorceror or druid.

Posted by neriana on 10 November 2004 - 02:46 PM in Icewind Dale Series

In IWD2, magic is incredibly powerful. It's too powerful, actually, even for this magic lover. Around mid-game, no matter what your AC just about anything hits you consistently, so anyone who can't cast a bunch of buffs on herself is at a serious disadvantage. Usually games are tilted against magic users and toward fighters, but in IWD2's case the opposite is true. The power of magic in IWD2 is one thing that makes it a worse game than BG2, which has much better balance.

#168620 Which God would win a fight?

Posted by neriana on 10 November 2004 - 02:40 PM in Delusions of the Mind

Chauntea could deny any god's worshipers food, thus choking off the source of the god's very existence, right?

The only god who could actually win a fight is Ao, really. If the other gods fought each other one-on-one, he'd step in.

#164865 Gods!

Posted by neriana on 24 October 2004 - 02:37 PM in Delusions of the Mind

http://www.skepdic.com/nostrada.html

Nostradamus wasn't any more accurate than any other astrologer or so-called psychic. Earth doesn't fit into D&D, nor should it, since there isn't really any such thing as magic.

#157147 Why this mod should have never been created

Posted by neriana on 27 September 2004 - 04:08 PM in Longer Road

This is great. You're actually saying you don't feel your mod could be improved in any way? Positive feedback doesn't equate to perfection, you know.

I am saying that I don't feel that LR is a complete failure, undeserving to exist -- and this is what I feel Neriana was trying to assure me of.

Again, try reading what I wrote. I do think a perfect way never to improve is to automatically take all criticism as a personal attack motivated by gods know what, and/or saying, "oh, the person criticizing me is motivated by ____, so I can discount the criticism." Also, if you want people to be nice to you, you have to be nice to them. However, accusing people of being controlled by an outside source and generally being rude to them is hardly going to motivate them to treat you with kid gloves.

Domi: OT, but what does "shaking each-other's manful hands" mean?

#156435 Why this mod should have never been created

Posted by neriana on 25 September 2004 - 03:14 PM in Longer Road

You know, post like yours is worth keeping the thread like this one running. Thank you.

The thread topic is "post all negatives here". And yet, the only thing that makes it "worth keeping" is a compliment? Hey, if you think everything you create is perfect and any and all criticism is unfounded, bully for you, and good luck ever improving anything you make, because you're gonna need it. Luck, or a miracle.

#155693 Keldorn <3

Posted by neriana on 23 September 2004 - 01:07 PM in IE Mod Ideas

The only way to romance Keldorn would be to do something evil. Can't anyone see the contradiction here? Oh, besides expecting a paladin to forget about the woman he's been married to for decades in a matter of months. Oh yay, the PC gets to be the mistress of a midlife crisis. :bash:

#154102 How about...

#153808 More Elder Scrolls IV

Posted by neriana on 18 September 2004 - 10:18 PM in Elder Scrolls Series

Morrowind did not have "realistic" population levels, nor could it. (There were also no children.) I don't care about that, and I've never heard of anyone who did -- about the population level at least. What I want is a reason to give a damn about the game, and in RPGs that's story and character, both of which were seriously lacking in Morrowind.

Even a few lines of difference between the wandering NPCs would have been something. Or they could have done what they said they were going to do, and made interesting NPCs with personalities. Not one NPC had any personality. They were all just there as quest and clue givers, or people to kill. That was a giant step backward in RPG development.

If I thought Morrowind didn't have great potential, I wouldn't care.

#153261 More Elder Scrolls IV

Posted by neriana on 16 September 2004 - 09:01 PM in Elder Scrolls Series

Nice graphics and all, but the question is, does that guy or any other NPC in the game have any personality whatsoever?

#152075 Why this mod should have never been created

Posted by neriana on 13 September 2004 - 02:33 PM in Longer Road

And if my post comes across as aggressive, it's because I resent the implication that I can't think for myself.

Don't we all.

Compton is neither all-knowing nor all-powerful, Dorotea. Just because people post on pocketplane, that doesn't mean Jason gets magical strings attached to us which he can pull at whim. Do you think fw is invisible unless Jason points it out? It's a modding forum which people interested in mods visit.

And you just accused a few of the most intelligent adults I have ever met of being illiterate children because they (we) don't like something you wrote. I independently downloaded and read the entire mod. You know how to turn your sentences, mostly, but the ends to which you turn them bug the hell out of me. Me means ME. Not Domi, not Jason, not Sim, not Kish, not anyone else you're thinking of. My independent judgement is that I don't like the mod and I don't think it fits with the game at all. That ranting is what you started this thread for, isn't it?

Oh, and just because someone is outspoken about disliking the things you write, that doesn't mean they're stalking you or something. As for "without any provocation", I've seen some things you've written about Jason's work in the past. If I were publicly (and badly) psychoanalyzed by someone because of a mod I wrote, I'd feel plenty provoked myself.
