#569461 A small BWS installation problem question

Posted by phillon on 08 June 2014 - 01:08 PM in Mega Mod Help

I actually don't have that many mods installed (Recommended BWP, with like 4 or so extra mods added, no BIG mods, etc.). I see that BG1NPC, BG2Tweaks, LostItems, spell_rev and stratagems have that file backed up...so one of them is the culprit? Wonder what the issue can be. Anyone else have had this issue perhaps?
It's actually more like coincidence tha... as if we take from your answer that you don't have the BGT-weidu installed to your megamod, the fact that the "VICONI.CRE" is missing easily explainable, the base BG2 game has "VICONI6.CRE", "VICONI8.CRE"... "VICONI16.CRE", but no plain "VICONI.CRE"'s at all.

Hi Imp; I attach my Weidu log with a list of mods installed. I do have BGT...I don't quite understand what you mean; are you saying that the error occurs because it is a BGT installation and viconi.cre is not used as 'base'? Also, that one component not installed is probably not that important right? I mean doesn't lolfixer and other stuff in any case fix innate ability problems, etc.?

Spoiler

Any help would be appreciated. I am playing through this one now and no problems so far. Otherwise I guess I will just try to brute force determine where the problem is, just re-install over and over again adding a few mods at a time to test. Thank you in advance.

Search for VICONI.CRE in your BGII folder and make not of which mods' backup folders have that file in them - if some mod deleted the file, this will narrow down the culprit from the 200+ mods you probably have installed

#569423 A small BWS installation problem question

Hi there,

Just a small question: I did a BWS install yesterday and everything completed perfectly except for one error, I paste the specific part in the log here:

Spoiler

Everything else installed perfectly. Any idea what might cause this and how to fix it? It seems it cannot find the viconi.cre file to copy (some other mod moved it or renamed it perhaps)? I can post my selection list as well if you require it.

Thank you.

#568389 Notes, Oddities and Possible Bugs in My BWP Game (Spoilers)

Posted by phillon on 09 May 2014 - 09:43 PM in Mega Mod Help

Thanks for the feedback micbaldur, much appreciated. I am convinced to go with teh big mods then. It will always bother me looking at the juicy big BGT map with all those new locations and not being able to go there (since many of the mods take you to new places). Man...what an amazing community of modders we have hey? So awesome that they enhance this masterpiece even further. I actually bought the "enhanced editions" and was disappointed. I especially loathe the new UI's...that spell and scroll UI...my god. You know what they say: if it ain't broke....

It is truly amazing though...to sometimes just stand back and realize the incredible achievement of the community and of the people involved in BWS and BWP. It really is humbling. So yeah, thanks again for the feedback. I will probably soon start with my playthrough and perhaps also create a feedback thread in here, both to find help if something goes wrong and to serve as a mini bug reporter. Peeps like The Imp and Lollorian are really awesome for after all this time still helping people on here and actually still doing some fixes in their spare time. You guys rock!

#568384 Notes, Oddities and Possible Bugs in My BWP Game (Spoilers)

Posted by phillon on 09 May 2014 - 02:37 PM in Mega Mod Help

Good choice on skipping Win 8 for Win 7 btw.

May I ask you something though micbaldur? I am going to start a BWP/BWS playthrough soon and am a bit torn: on the one hand I want to play an 'enhanced vanilla BGT' experience and skip the big mods, but on the other hand...it feels like I will be missing out on so much content. So basically you could say I am torn between the "recommended" BWP preset and the "standard". From your experiences are the big mods worth it? I have never played any of the big mods. How buggy are they? Minor bugs (fixable with some editing/console) or major game breaking ones? Is the writing really that bad (as some make it out to be)? The items really that imbalanced (this isn't such a major thing for me though, I'll just not use the items if they are obviously ridiculous)? I have finished the BG saga about 4 times, so I am no novice, but just don't want to actually commit to doing a BGT playthrough with big mods to be disappointed with shitty content and/or massive bugs. So what say you sir? How has your experience of the big mods been? Or anyone else that can give me some feedback?

Thanks in advance.

So wish that Spell Revisions would release v4 already! So amped for it to be integrated into BWP and BWS. It looks really cool. And thanks Quiet for still keeping BWS updated; you (and all others involved) are awesome.

Leonardo, I just want to chime in here and give a massive thank you to you for all the effort that have and continue to put into this project. It is tremendously appreciated. Keep doing what you are doing man, there are peeps out there like me that just worship BG (and the IE games) and gain so much from what you do. So yeah, just a massive thank you.

I've finished a few successful BWS installations over the past 2 years and I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone involved; dabus, quiet, lollorian, the imp, leonardo, etc. (and of course all the modders and modding communities). This tool makes the process so efficient. I cannot even imagine the amount of work that must go into this (and also for Leonardo setting up the BWP). Seriously guys...thank you. I cannot thank you enough for enhancing this masterpiece of a game (or making the process so much easier) and all from your own free time. So yeah....just a massive thank you.

#559181 BWS 11.4 Meets BPv181

Posted by phillon on 15 June 2013 - 02:36 AM in Mega Mod Help

The BWS does not use the batch during the install. (I guess people expect that since the BiG World is in its name.)

It uses the instructions from the selected games select.txt. There are calls for smoothpack, fixpack, textpack, trimpack but not installpack.
I separated the BWS from being a wrapper for the installpack because it does not contain some information like: alternatives for component x, dependencies within mods (lets say you want to remove scsII component X from the selection, will that affect other components and so on. Leonardo was also putting in new features and new variables every now and then and the batch didn't look like now at all so I felt that it was easier if I separated the installation-instructions from the batch when I created the BWS.
(In fact it was batches back then, shipping with files for different languages and different pre-selections.)

So if you want the BWS to set up an BWP-install like kovarex did, you'll need both modifications (BWP installpack and BWS).

Hi Dabus,

Thanks so much for confirming that for me, appreciate it! As you explained it then, it would mean that indeed BP would have installed successfully (as the BWS logs show)! I will probably start my playthrough soon and test it just to make sure, but all should be fine then.

Thanks again Dabus (for BWS) and Horred (for the BP181 fixes to the BWS files), appreciate your effort.

#559178 BWS 11.4 Meets BPv181

Posted by phillon on 14 June 2013 - 11:57 PM in Mega Mod Help

Thanks for the tip on the install pack. Leonardo is working on a new version of the BWP package to help handle this mod overhaul, but maybe this can help others in the meantime..  I'm fairly sure the Fixpack fixes are no longer needed in BPv181, so don't worry about that for now.

I accounted for it in the version of the Big World Install.bat  I posted in another thread, and it recognized BP (181+). However, I must have made some other error, because on occasion it did not install BP despite recognizing it. That's why I'm also waiting on Leonardo's revisions. He is definitely the master of his own filepack. I'm just a good-intentioned, fumbling interloper by comparison. ;)

Well, my install worked fine with the files you provided. I checked the "BiG World Install Debug.txt" and it showed all BP stuff installed perfectly. I did however notice that in the "BiG World Install.bat" and "list.txt" that there are still old references to BP180. However, I believe that when you use the BWS, the BWS overrides these when you select "BWS: Big world project - Detailed Customization" on the first screen of BWS as opposed to selecting "Big world install.bat"; i.e. then the list (and its pointers) in the Big world setup folder is used instead to tell BWP what to install and where to get it.

Is my understanding of this correct? Would you be able to answer me Horred or should I try asking Dabus (creator of BWS)? The standard install takes from BP the improved fights (improved illesera for example); I am guessing I can just test it like this (by testing if Illesera is improved at the start of TOB)? What exactly are the differences in the fight compared to the original Illesera (so I can know whether the BP actually installed correctly).

#559137 BWS 11.4 Meets BPv181

Posted by phillon on 13 June 2013 - 08:16 AM in Mega Mod Help

Well all I want to say is THANK YOU HORRED, just finished a standard install (with one or two customizations) via BWS using the files you provided (to fix the renaming issue of BPv180 to BP) and it worked wonderfully, even better than before; all ascension and BP modules installed successfully whereas previously there were some issues (most likely to do with 180c). Version 181 seems to have fixed these (in addition to all the juicy fixes you have mentioned). Seriously Horred, thank you so much for all the effort you put in! I also believe that “-zugschef-“ is overreacting; I did not find the way you posted in response to him offensive at all.

Don’t get discouraged HORRED, there are many out there that might never say thank you in person, but am sure greatly appreciate the effort you (and all dedicated modders) put in. Again thank you for still after all this time still making improvements to this already masterpiece of a game series.

#559118 @Dabus: will you keep working on BWS?

Hi Dabus,

Thank you for the clarification and feedback. And again, thank you for everything you have done for the BG/IE community, it is greatly appreciated.

#559071 @Dabus: will you keep working on BWS?

Posted by phillon on 11 June 2013 - 06:33 AM in Mega Mod Help

Hi there Dabus,

I saw some posts of yours recently suggesting that you are not going to be updating the BWS configuration anymore? What exactly does that mean? Does it mean that if Leonardo release a new version of BWP (say v11.6) then the current BWS won't work with it or if it does work will cause problems? Are all the download locations and package names hardcoded into BWS? I have used BWS a few times now and it is an amazing piece of work; I just want to express my sincere gratitude for what you (and Leonardo) have done. Seriously: thank you. It makes the process of installing and downloading all these mods for this masterpiece of games much more manageable. I (and quite a few others I imagine) would be very sad if you stopped working on BWS.

Regards,

phillon
