#264864 What can change the nature of man?

Posted by iguana-on-a-stick on 26 September 2006 - 01:22 PM in Planescape: Torment

Okay, another slight resurrection.

I do not doubt Death's angel's answer was the one intended by the writers. After all, "what can change the nature of a man" is the game's central question, and the game is called "torment."

Plus, I once found a hidden soundfile for Dak'kon where he says "what can change the nature of a man" followed by "Torment" three times with various degrees of emphasis.

I wonder if there are such soundfiles for the other NPCs?

Anyway, I like this answer. It would be mine.

#264863 Going to get Planescape: Torment & Soulbringer package next week

Posted by iguana-on-a-stick on 26 September 2006 - 01:11 PM in Planescape: Torment

Plus decent intelligence. Even as a fighter, put most of your points into wisdom and intelligence.

Charisma is neat too, but can be raised later on (you get a stat-point extra each level) Plus either dex or strength if you want to be a thief or fighter respectively.

#241808 Needing a little help

Posted by iguana-on-a-stick on 26 February 2006 - 03:11 PM in Edwin Romance

Moreover, you can ask the clerics of Oghma in the Docks district for a hint (though that particular one failed to appear in my last play-through, curiously enough) and another from the bookseller in the Umar Hills.

#240251 Best CRPG

Posted by iguana-on-a-stick on 12 February 2006 - 03:18 PM in General Gameplay

*votes torment*

Sure, the battles weren't as good as those in BG2, and you didn't have as much freedom of action as in Fallout 2, but the story is second to none and even though (or because?) you're limited to playing the Nameless One it's the only crpg in which I felt I was actually able to roleplay. (okay, Fallout also did a decent job at this. But BG fails miserably, there are only token good/neutral/evil responses)

#240227 Bug Report Thread

Posted by iguana-on-a-stick on 12 February 2006 - 12:36 PM in Return to Trademeet

Elessime has a mixed up dialogue... both the italian and the English text is displayed, the one after the other.

It's the final dialogue in which she rewards you. "I know you do not care for gold, but hopefully these magic items taken from the matron mothers will prove useful." (or something like that.)

On a side note, I'd have liked a dialogue option to refuse to go on Elessime's later suicide missions... I could refuse the initial request for aid, which is good, but when the queen sent me to attack the matron mothers I sure would have appreciated the option to tell her to solve her own damn problems for once... I was completely out of spells and abilities after fighting all those mindflayer things. It's also weird that even a lawful good character is forced to make a false promise to the Drow to get the brain thing back...

Anyway, another bug: some monsters aren't affected by some spells when to all appearances they should be. For example, when I cast Emotion on the Yetis some fail their saves and start glowing yellow, but they do not fall over. Chaos doesn't seem to have much effect either. The deathspell bug Uriel reported may be linked to this... when I cast it on Yetis the death graphic does appear but the monsters do not die. (maybe they simply have too many hitdice in this case, but even then the graphic shouldn't appear.) The Greater Snow Trolls have the same weird immunity to these spells.

Finally, and I'm not sure if this is a bug or some kind of hard-coded issue, my sorcerer can't pick any of the new spells from RTT when he goes up a level. Nor do all clerics get all the new spells, they only get some of them. I'm not sure if this is intentional or not.

#240100 Music question

That did the trick.

Thanks for the help. (Never did figure out NI before) Keep up the great work with this mod!

#239946 Music question

Posted by iguana-on-a-stick on 10 February 2006 - 11:57 AM in Return to Trademeet

Well, I have acm2wav, which is fine for converting normal ACM files. But these are already WAV files, so the utility can't convert them. Yet they are compressed, so winamp or mediaplayer can't play them.

I tried downloading plugins that allowed Winamp to play ACM files, but those didn't help with the compressed WAVs. So now I'm at a loss.

Ah, I was looking for ACM files. Thanks for the quick reply.

Unfortunately, I do not know how to decompress them. Repeated google searches have been disappointingly unenlightening. I presume I need a program or utility of some kind?

#239863 Music question

Posted by iguana-on-a-stick on 10 February 2006 - 01:40 AM in Return to Trademeet

I'm currently playing through RTT and I'm having a great time. (though I'm very glad I elected to play a sorcerer with the Emotion spell as one of his spell choices... don't know how I would have survived all those horribly tough monsters otherwise. Particularly those insta-killing spiders I ran into early on in the Wyvern Pit)

Now, I particularly enjoy the music. The maintheme is great, it almost feels like Baldurs Gate music style-wise, but many of the other tracks are great too. I frequently find myself unwilling to leave an unimportant area because I'm waiting for the music to finish.

The question now is: is it possible to extract that music from the game so I can listen to it elsewhere? I know it's possible with the normal BG2 music, using the ACM converter, but I haven't found any RTT ACMs except the maintheme. Any help with this?

You can also try force-talking to her if you haven't already, that has worked for me once or twice when the dialogue trigger didn't catch or something.

#235641 Help me

Posted by iguana-on-a-stick on 10 January 2006 - 02:15 PM in Edwin Romance

It says in the FAQ that the Netherscroll quest can only be done once Edwin tells you to. Did he talk about it? If yes, I suppose it is a bug and I can't help either. If no, you probably need to wait a while until Edwin talks some more.

#235319 Starting a FAQ...

Posted by iguana-on-a-stick on 08 January 2006 - 02:56 PM in Edwin Romance

A minor question:

Edwin gave me a gift, that says it provides "mind shield" to my character. (amongst other things) What exactly is this supposed to protect me from? I thought it would prevent domination, but it doesn't. Nor does it help against confusion. Does it only prevent charms, or is there a bug here?

#235158 Compatible Mods

Posted by iguana-on-a-stick on 07 January 2006 - 02:48 PM in Edwin Romance

I am currently playing the mod with the Quest Pack installed, minus the "additional shadow thieves content" component, and it's working a charm. I've gotten up to the encounter with the two new NPCs with voices and portraits (to keep things spoilerfree) with no problems whatsoever.

As I suspected, it seems that only the shadow thieves component will cause conflicts with the Edwin mod, and the rest can be enjoyed with no trouble. Which is good, because I like the quest pack.

P.S. this is the funniest mod I've played so far, yet manages to accomplish this without sacrificing characterisation and emotional involvement. Full thumbs up!
