#153212 Yaga Shura and his army

Posted by Schatten on 16 September 2004 - 01:59 PM in Refinements

A better solution might be instead of spawning random mages is to spawn a *group* of mages at one point in the battle.  It could be the 'mage squad' or 'magic battalion' or some such all arriving on the scene at one time as a group.  *That* would be both realistic and interesting.  Ditto for priests.

I'm also not keen on the splash damage.  Yaga is a fire *giant* not some sort of mystical fire creature.

my sentiments exactly. :)

wisdom affects spell failure (for clerics?) but not intelligence.

#151483 Why this mod should have never been created

Posted by Schatten on 11 September 2004 - 09:29 AM in Longer Road

imo you all view and judge with your own eyes instead you must look and judge as a queen who has responsibility over x elves in a reality you do not live in.
you say killing him outright is better. but is it really? your moral and your punishment are based on your rl surroundings.
ah, well, its fiction and too philosophical.
i cannot say anyhing about it. havent played lr but will if i finish my current game anytime. :D

#153492 Who would download

Posted by Schatten on 17 September 2004 - 02:11 PM in IE Mod Ideas

dont know. probably not. i would test it for npcs who i see could get drunk like korgan. this does not fit in "my" bg2 world, in my imagination. sorry.

#106207 What should really also be in a refinements mod

Posted by Schatten on 28 March 2004 - 05:54 AM in Refinements

too bad this is not going to be done. you need to recreate to much and change too much.
btw, any other game with d&d wont be evil, too. thanks to wotc and their opinion that good must prevail in the end.

#90625 Valen Expansion Now in Development

Posted by Schatten on 07 February 2004 - 10:53 AM in Valen Expansion

Anyone who mentions buffy or takes that programme remotely seriously needs to be sectioned.

i agree here. :D
i disagree with Melkor. valen needs more dialog. i always felt like having a silent killer-machine by my side. like a mp character created by me.

#90459 Universal lesser mage robes

Posted by Schatten on 06 February 2004 - 12:50 PM in Refinements

. I see no reason why a mage shouldn't be able to wear a Studded Leather - the fact that he would lose his spellcasting capabilities while wearing it is another story, and his own problem. Or why is that mages cannot wield (even worse, cannot even use) a long sword... <_<

it is easy to explain. why should a electromechanics work in a carworkshop? see what i mean? a mage wears light clothes who enhance his/her magical abilities by runes/symbols enscribed on it. he must use his hands and arms and incedients to cast spells. he is too snobish (dont know another word) to go to melee. melee is for stupid barbarians not for intelectual persons like a mage. he works and battles with his brain.

now you may ask: wtf are you talking? if you want to use a sword why not use it? true. but somewhere you have to made a line what is allowed and what not. on a pc its a whole lot difference than on a table. i think a lot of groups allow a mage to use a sword sometimes. but the purpose of a mage is to cast spells not to swing a sword.

dang, way to long. :D

#90501 Universal lesser mage robes

Posted by Schatten on 06 February 2004 - 04:01 PM in Refinements

to end it here (too off-topic): you can play your mage the way you want. sure you can be a mage who goes melee and whacks everything. if this is the way you want to play him.
my mages are the way i described them. proud to be a mage. a sword? i have no use for it. i have my magic.
i think its okay that a mage cannot wear armor and weapons.

#90497 Universal lesser mage robes

Posted by Schatten on 06 February 2004 - 03:33 PM in Refinements

By that logic, a mage should be unable to cast spells naked, either. It's not that they need robes--it's that they can't cast in armor.

there is a slight difference between a requirement and an enhancment.

This is an inappropriate personality limitation. It would annoy me if I was told, "Your character MUST be an intellectual snob" without a reason. What, holding melee weapons in contempt is a requirement to make magic work? No...it's not, or it wouldn't be possible for a wizard to dual-class or be multiclassed

if you come from your academy you are somewhat proud of your work because not everyone become a magician and it is somewhat mysteries. you are more intelligent then john doe there. you are like one from the psi chor in bab5. a mage should cast spells and very rarely go melee. except battlemages who go to academies that train body and spirit.

#154645 Tsujatha Mod Released v4

well, i still think his stats are too good. :P

#154699 Tsujatha Mod Released v4

Posted by Schatten on 21 September 2004 - 06:08 AM in IE Modding Discussion

this might be true.
but 15 is still considerable good. 12/12/18/15/12. all is above average.
12 for char means he is beautifull and charming but doesnt fit in the role as a leader like a paladin because he doesnt know of this world. and makes a total of 84. i dont give my character many more points. all around 80. my opinion. even char of 13 is okay if you must. :)

#154738 Tsujatha Mod Released v4

Posted by Schatten on 21 September 2004 - 07:44 AM in IE Modding Discussion

OK, TG, here is my counter strike :
1. What you say is correct, but the NPC are built so powerful to match their opponents. The percent of high-level opponent in BG2 is totally insane. If you are able to encounter through the game at least 100 characters with high stats or above level 10, then why not for the NPC, too ? That is from the game's perspective.
2. The NPC's are all adventurers. They don't stand idle at their home and harvest their crops. They are all of high level and, to become so, they took part in a lot of quests, which are very dangerous. Only the best of them will survive enough to reach level 8 or more. It's a kind of natural selection. Of course not all are born with high stats, but an adventurer who advanced to level 9 or more is already a champion. Yes, TG, you are right, not all adventurers have such high stats, but 90% die before reaching level 9.

1. do you REALLY want to tell me !5points! distributed among the stats change a superpowerfull npc to a peasent or vice versa? no, but it gives the player (read: me) the feeling of a difference between a super hero ultima power pacman and a good "normal" npc.
the changes in my example above wont render the pc useless. remember the pc get some powerfull boost from items, too.
2. umm... yes, they get stronger by adventuring and exercising. but a necro dont change from necro to fighter. ;)

#106813 True Dweomers

Posted by Schatten on 31 March 2004 - 01:17 PM in Refinements

"Devas no longer get Globe of Blades in Refinemets."

why? i hope you write all changes in the readme. ;)

"In PnP, a pit fiend used to be able to gate in more pit fiends."

this is not true. he can gate demons who are less powerful then himself.

#163874 True Dweomers

Posted by Schatten on 19 October 2004 - 03:42 AM in Refinements

i must agree with Ieldra here. level drain is teh most hatred nemesis for me. i hate it. loosing unique item is more balancing. i never cast a spell that drains my exp. on top of that is that even in 2ed or is that a thing from 3rd ed? why do i loose memory/wisdom/experience by casting a spell? imo its better to have long casting times to simulate preperations for the spell and unique items as ingredients.
so you have the choice of using the unique dragon head of doom for the unique world breaking blaster device of ultimate destruction or casting a spell to summon the balor god lord of 1000 pain stacking honey bees.
then the question how much exp to sacrifice 1000 is not enough and 100.000 is too much. sorry, i am for valuable items and not for vampiric spells.

#163920 True Dweomers

Posted by Schatten on 19 October 2004 - 07:43 AM in Refinements

i said spell slots, not exp. ;) i said if you craft lets say 10 items you must sacrifice 2 spell slots.
i cant see any fantasy-reality reason why you should loose experience by managing to create difficult items. ;)
i also like the ravenloft vampire drains more then the exp drains. in ravenloft vamps can also drain abilities. seems better then exp to me. perhaps i cant comprehend the exp system entirely and see exp in ad&d the way it is in reality. there you can only loose exp due to amnesia ect...
