thanks M , knights looks promising but scared that the graphics would shout star wars, players looking out for R2D2
One of the hundreds of flash online games would be perfect, they mostly use pre rendered perspective backs which can be beautiful but how to get the jpegs ?

There was also Spelljammer but that's ancient and even if the maps wouldn't look crappy in BG2 (they would I'm sure) I think they were top-down instead of isometric.

There's Spelljammer ships' 3dmax models on the internetz, I'm pretty sure I've seen illithid's Nautiloid sometime ago. Worth investigating, perhaps.

Am in the testing bug squashing phase of this quest, if anyone is playing it please post bugs as you go

I've got a big pb : it took me quite a while to download Vecna v 19 and the file was corrupted (at the end, according to WinRAR) !

Is it normal and may I download the v 21, or has anybody encounter the same pb ?

no not normal  sounds like a bad dl to me. am dl V22 now to check everything is cool.If thats ok will check v19
Are you going to play it outside a megamod install ?

Sorry for having been so late, but yes, I will play it without any megamod.

You might want to contact Huxaltec over at the french modding community Legendes:
http://weiducommando...s-of-the-realms

He's creating a rather large mod, with new areas, and some are supposed to play on spelljammer ships.
I don't know how much of the coding he's done, but he seems to be doing a good job at creating new maps.

Maybe he accepts to share some maps, or even create new ones for you.

Wow and wow what a mod!!! Just shows you can achieve with a shed load of artistic talent, the graphics are gorgeous !
There is a LOT of 3d starjammer stuff on the internet, i can definatly stage a battle or 2 in that setting, on a squid ship ( mind flayer ) would be cool, and not to painfull to render etc, but not exactly what am after.
Let me explain, if the players defeat Lol,Orcus and dem in the final battle and gain the hand/eye then they will have the option of searching for the next artifact in the vecna series, that is " The rod of seven parts" , the rod is actually a Traveller artifact, the search for this artifact reveals story of pre-history and specifically they end up on the AO ( the greatest and last of the traveller world ships ).
So i am looking for ship interiors, but BIG ones, ie a world ship, and REALLY futuristic, certainly not techno-punk.
If not pre-rendered then in 3d ( but rendering a scene as big as what i am thinking is gong to take about a week !!!! ) I believe the original bg2 graphics were hand drawn.

Ah, well i hope you are a very experienced player!! Vecna is going to be quite a challenge without the extra kit and experience available in a mega mod, setting i sugest at least adding Alex Mackintosh Trader to your mod list , that store has lots of overpowered kit at stupidly low prices likewise for the Magnificent Magic Shop ( you can sell all your unwanted kit for FULL price no matter your prestige ). Please post back on your thoughts of the mod as you play,

Thanks

Holy shit, these french guys are amazing.
Btw there is an illithid ship model in bg2, just cut it from the Ust Natha general map, you can use the illithid town and the mind flayer's sewer compound as interiors. Also you might be able to recycle the githyianki warships model.

In addition to an excellent link in the previous post, there's another ship in the small area used for cutscene where githyanki boards and sinks the ship you're fleeing Brinnlaw on.Stupid me, posted this with images loading accidentally turned off. This ship already mentioned in the post above :)

all good thanks, but a bit small, even scaled up 2:1 not big enough (any more and you really start to see pixelation ) the free 3ds models on the spelljammer website are better and will use them.
As for the rest Starcraft2 is going to be the majour resource for effects, new creature anims ( yes there will be actual robots you can hack to death ) and exterior ship models/meshes, but still stuck at ship interiors will keep looking.
Anyways i am on contract now for a month or so, hence will not be posting as much, by time i get back hope there will be some feedback posts on vecna as is :)

I suppose Mass Effect doesn't have anything usable? Never played it but I think it also uses the Aurora/NWN/KotOR engine.

Had a look at the screen shots and YES perfect, god knows how they got the screens to look so much better with the same engine, if i can find a way to export the models will be good to go, might be a bit problematic cos doubt will be a level editor etc, Starcraft3 is excellent cos all the models go straight into 3d max with a custom import script but backgrounds are rubbish.
These My link are the models using for spelljammers, should be really cool.
Can anyone recomend any bg2 specific IN DEPTH tutorials, based on recent Max versions ( and vue9 cos most of models are in vue )
Am not on contract yet, riots in uk :)

No idea what format Unreal or Vue models are in, I've only imported from NWN/3ds and similar. Also I don't think there are recent tutorials but 3ds hasn't changed all that much except for bells and whistles. There is this one on making cave interiors, and a few others that might be useful here. You might have better luck on the Unreal or NWN forums (if you can sift your way through the rubbish on them, they are probably a lot more active than the IE forums). Also there is stuff about porting animations in this thread. Porting area graphics (for NWN etc. anyway) would be similar since they are usually just huge models (actually easier since they are not animated as such).

Thanks loads Miloch there is more than enough on these links, especially the IA thread, there is a nice little tutorial on that thread which should do. Only issues is that all the 3ds Import plug-ins ( NWN to 3DS ) are for really old versions of 3ds, i think the most recent update on the NWN site is 2009, and thats a 3DS to NWN filter. If cant find more recent or if the old versions refuse to work will hunt down a old copy of 3DS and use that on a spare laptop.
Also found a few "futuristic" hak packs for NWN, quite good space ships, future world etc will see what they look like on screen. The SpellJammer models are really beautiful and VUE is incredible, apparently its used on lots of major film productions, ie Terminator3 . Go to website and you can download a free student version, or just check the torrents :)

Uploading V23 now, have a dubious connection so fingers crossed.
I would say this is now past beta into RC1 ( although that is a personal opinion ) the adventure plays well and the party can get to the end without bugs impeding progress, played it for the first time with sound on and its VERY quiet !!,needs music and many ambients and effects added, will get to that later.
It is way to hard, but not impossible, the monsters are a bit dumb, and prone to well timed clairvoyance / dimension door / timestop attacks.
The finale i am very pleased with, have made it a true final confrontation with the mother of all battles, but again with timestop immunity and a cool head it is possible.
Have started a small amount of work on the spelljammer stuff but not to a screen i can show of yet
