File Name: Unique Containers v3
File Submitter: Miloch
File Submitted: 24 May 2009
File Updated: 2 Dec 2009
File Category: Miscellaneous Released Mods
Forum: www.shsforums.net/index.php?showtopic=40775
Readme: www.farseek.com/bg/contain-english.html

Unique Containers

This mini-mod assigns unique icons to all containers in the game. Containers include standard and mod-added bags of holding, gem bags, scroll cases, potion cases and ammo belts. The tweak allows you to identify containers at a glance by colour and use them for a particular type of storage. Or it just makes your character's accessories colour-coordinated :P. Optionally, you can assign unique names (based on the colour) to the containers to differentiate them further.

The mod will also fix various issues with stores and containers in both the unmodded (and Fixpacked) games, as well as with mods. Some of those mods include BP, CtB, NEJ2, RoT, SOS and UB. Most significantly, it fixes some issues with Lost Items v2, including containers with duplicate stores attached and other mod usability issues pointed out by Bursk and SixOfSpades. You don't need to have any of these mods installed to use the main feature though.

Ultimately, this mod will be included in a larger tweak mod but is released as a patch or mini-mod in the interim.

Installation: Extract to your game directory, double-click on setup-contain.exe and follow the prompts. Option 1 gives you unique names and icons for containers, option 2 gives new icons only and option 3 just fixes container and store bugs in the vanilla game and with mods.

Compatibility: This mod is compatible with (Easy)Tutu, BGT and BG2 with any combination of mods. However, you should install this after any mods that add containers, including BG2 Tweaks and BGT Tweaks.

Well, but why would you biff a biff that's already biffed?

Can you attach (not paste) your SETUP-CONTAIN.DEBUG log. And I guess your WeiDU.log though I doubt that'll help much.

Odd. It found your ToB and mod resources, but none of your SoA resources. Could be maybe your chitin.key is corrupt, because that (if correct) should point to your game resources regardless of which biff they're in. Or could be this Generalized Biffing thing messes with your game in cruel and unusual ways, though I don't think the bigg would do that. But he does say PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS MOD HAS NOT BEEN EXTENSIVELY TESTED AND MIGHT BREAK YOUR GAME in big caps...

You could try uninstalling Unique Containers, deleting everything from your /cache and /cache/data (and I guess /temp and /tempsave while you're at it) then try reinstalling it. But if your chitin.key is corrupt, that won't help much...

As to why stores.bif was missing... No idea...

Hello Miloch! I like your Unique Containers mod ;)

However I had a minor discrepancy. In Shadows Over Soubar, the footlocker (CBLOCKER) item gets changed fine with the new BAM but the creatures that give them through dialog (GiveItem) are changed and do not have the item anymore so their dialog does not give the item. The footlocker is a key component for the mod although it has its quirks.

from my DEBUG
Copied [cb4287mj.cre] to [override/cb4287mj.cre]
Copied [cbsoumjr.cre] to [override/cbsoumjr.cre]

These are the two CRE's that are changed. Both are Soubar Major and have the cblocker.itm and are almost identical creatures but I think they are used differently or in separate areas. The foot locker would classify like a "bag of holding" and not like the ammo or gem bags if that makes a difference as fas as STO files.

No big woop as I deleted the changed CRE's from override since SOS Bifs its resources anyway. It was just strange.

I removed the footlockers from their inventories to prevent duplicate container bugs, because I thought they used GiveItemCreate instead of GiveItem. Meaning you could kill or pickpocket them for another footlocker (which is really the *same* one accessing the same store). But now that I look at it further, this whole thing is pretty buggy, because they use *both* GiveItem and GiveItemCreate in their dialogues.

The best solution is probably to remove the items from their inventories (like I've done) and then change all GiveItem references to GiveItemCreate in their dialogues. That way it doesn't matter if the item is in their inventories (and if it isn't, it can't be pickpocketed, which is good because it'd be kind of stupid to be able to steal a footlocker off someone without them noticing).

Now if you say these are different creatures in different areas, then another fix is necessary, since otherwise it will create duplicate footlockers - maybe the "quirks" you're talking about? We'd have to clone the footlocker, give it a different name and BAM, and then change the dialogue references in *one* of the dialogues.

But you know this mod better than I do, so tell me if any of that is off. There was something similar in CtB where Paddy Stoutfellow and someone else had the same Camping Gear, so I had to clone that too (but I neglected to clone the store which led to another bug, but I've fixed that).

Edit: and if I'm right about that last being a duplication bug, then I'll need two more strings translated into German, Italian and Spanish. Maybe something like these?
~Brass Footlocker~
~Oak Footlocker~

Edit2: Actually, it appears to be the same CRE, with the same footlocker. Well, sort of - the cb4287mj.cre that appears in ar4287 offers to give the footlocker *back* to the PC that he took from him earlier. So I'm assuming he's supposed to be the same as the cbsoumjr in ar4286. So all that's really necessary here is to change cbsoumj1.dlg to use GiveItemCreate since cb4287mj.dlg already does.

In the DL location the file still says containers_v1. Is it a v1 and you just forgot to rename it or is it v2?

Cheers
