Phew. Small update. This "Faces" module takes ALOT more time then i previously expected.
Because, you know, its not just about cropping and resizing images, but looking for the one that matches the character. Plus, they all have to be in, more or less, similiar art style.
AND THERES SHITLOAD OF THEM @_@
So far, 50 done. Thru Candlekeep, Beregorst, Half of Nashkel and a huge part of the Wildness.
What needs to be done: More Nashkel, the rest of Wildness, Cloakwood, Baldurs Gate, TotSC and of course Black Pit!
Sorry for the delay. Working as fast as i can.
Heres the current first 50 images. Hope you like it.
Oh and if you want to play a game - try and gues what portrait is who! :D

Some news...
Module 1-10 and 12 FINISHED
Module 13 extended (Theres currently total of 78 new NPC faces)
Module 11, 14 and 15 put ON HOLD due to little feedback...

Heres a screenshot of "Faces" Module in action. You cant tell this from just looking at the picture but it inpacts the game gameplay greatly.

It's pretty cool of you to take other people's artwork and then profit from it

Thats charming.
And damn close-minded.
And also increadibly sad. Out of all the modding communities ive been a part of. Fallout 1&2 modding, F3 and F:NV modding, Elder Scrolls modding, Gothic Trilogy modding, Minecraft modding and so many, many more, IE modding is the first eviroment, EVER that throw mud at me because i DARED to claim those silly couple of cents for my workd.
So far i kept my lips closed, but ill make an exception for you. This one time. First and last.
Making Faces took me about 2 weeks to finish. Almost 3 weeks. Thats over 170h hours pumped into a mod for a game that till now was almost dead.
I kept replaying the game over and over to make sure i havent missed an NPC. And you think that googling is an easy ride? sure. If you are googling for a naked chick thats not a problem. But if you are trying to find almost 500, unique, good quality, matching each other, character graphics for a specific characters, and you cannot use the same gfx more then once.
That takes a bit. And even when you have all the gfx you still need to crop it, resize it, and match the colors pallet.
and thats the graphics, only. Then you have to write down each and every NPC you want to modify. Export the CRE file, edit it, save. Rise and repeat, till you either go insane or finish all the NPCs.
But apparently that means nothing to you. You prefer to talk like the finished mod have fallen right into my hands from the freaking sky.
Gee, thats sweet. That really makes one want to create more mods.
Thanks to mods, the publisher earns more money as the mods enhance the game. Graphics used? yeah. Croped into barely visible bunch of pixels. Mostly being displayed for up to 10 sec. Holy shit, thats a deal breaker right there.
And actualy, the whole mod earned me a whoping 46cents. For like 2 months.
Damn how evil and greedy i am!
Actually, not. And you know, its not even about the money. But about being rewarded for hard work, It doesnt matter how big or small the reward is, thats what means alot to me.
And no modding comunities i know have any problems with that. Dang, even Mojang, the creators of the game that preety much EVERYONES play on this planet dont see a problem with sharing a bit with their modders.

But no. Not in IE modding. Heres the land of law and justice. Regardless of the cost. AT all costs. And SCREW the human factor.

Phew. i wont post in here again. But i am glad i got this out of my system.
If the mods or admins thinks i am doing something wrong - go ahead and kick the whole thread into trashcan.
But i am not leaving on my own.
Kudos.

I kinda agree with Alma -- I can see Arta's Sarevok we released as a BG mod and I don't think anyone asked us. I kinda like the idea of the mod, but the thing is that indeed it's like taking someone's work and then posting in under your name... You also tell people not to include the mod in other places while that's exactly what you did with portrait form my and Arta's mod.

It's not like I'm mad or something, just... you know...

...also calling someone close minded because she note that you use someone's work without giving credits isn't cool.

If i in fact used her artwork - then instead of playing smart pants - just tell me which one is her. And ill remove it.
Simple as this. And polite.
Apparently thats the hard thing to do for some people.

I couldnt give any credits because i DIDNT knew the credits.
Like what? You think i did that on purpous? ive been using google image search. Theres no credits there. Only pictures.

And i actually dont mind either giving the credits or even sharing the cash with the gfx owners.
But i must KNOW who was the author do give credits. And that was preety much impossible with 500 character graphics.
I am not running a bussines here. I did that because i could. If i would be after money i would do Minecraft mods, not almost 20 years old rpg game.
give me your paypal account name and ill send your share instantly. But we'll have to wait a bit. Because i dont see when the mod will actually earn enough when it can be transfered.

Sorry i throw that at you. But i really had enough. And this whole situation is ridiculous.
And now i know i wont be making another mod for BGEE. And people calling me names. Calling me thief, and whatnot - that only makes me want to take the whole mod down from internet.

Well, I am just the coder so I would rather Arta decide. I'll just poke her to check the thread. But really, there are people who would be glad to contribute etc so asking them would be nice. Many artists would agree since that's the way their work becomes more recognised.

cheers

I didnt know it was Arta works. And i am terribly sorry for that.
Tell me which graphics are yours and ill add you to the credits.

Just shame you havent told that from the beggining. I would instalty react and fix it.
That would do alot better then calling me a thief.

In case somebody is interested: here the exact amount of Faces MOD downloads and how much it earned me. In period of 2 months. Screenshot directly from my adf.ly account

Hah. Its even less then i though.

Taking art from the internet without permission and then redistributing it is a direct violation of copyright law. That makes it theft by definition. "It takes too long to figure out who the artists are and then contact them" isn't much of an excuse in this situation, and verbally attacking anyone who complains about this is even more unsavory.

It was never Lava and Arta's responsibility to contact you to ask you to take down their work or credit them. It was yours to ensure that this situation never arose in the first place.

Because law is all that matters right?

I wasnt attacking, i was defending myself.

I dont know how anybody could mix those two.

And and i dont know in what crazy place you live in, but in my country - its against the law only when you benefit from it. Otherwise giants such as e.g YouTube couldnt exist.

Entities like Youtube are protected by something called the Digital Millennium Copyright Act in the US, though other WIPO countries probably have similar provisions. Because it's practically impossible for them to monitor everything that goes up on their site, they're safe as long as they honor whatever take-down notices they get from companies in a timely process. And I would imagine that their lawyers handle such requests with grace.

What I personally take issue with is comments like this:

If i in fact used her artwork - then instead of playing smart pants - just tell me which one is her. And ill remove it.
Simple as this. And polite.

Lava was actually being pretty gentle, and you resorted to name calling instead of graciously offering to rectify the problem. I get that you're upset, but you're not making the situation any better by reacting so defensively.

Thread locked.

As has been pointed out in the thread, copyright violations/art theft don't just break our forum rules, it's also illegal.

All content in question has been removed from the topic.
