how can I find where a certain item is?

I have been browsing through my game files with Infinity Explorer and I noticed a few items, presumably installed by DSotSC, that I never found. Having done all the quests in DSotSC, to the best of my knowledge, I wondered where those items would be, and that I had probably missed a few things to be done.
So, my next logical step was, how can I find in the game files where an item is located inside the game, say, for example, in what area is a given sword for which I know the code? Can this be done? Are there tools for this?
Thanks.

And then I'd check creature files with DLTCEP to see if any of the creatures added by the mod possess the items I wanted.
And then I'd check the tp2 to see if any of the items were added to existing areas/in-game creatures.

BG1 Adventure/CoM Forge patched some of these "unused" DSotSC items in, but as yet, there is no BGT-compatible version of either.

Use Near Infinity, and go to the item in question. Go to the 'edit' ab and then use the 'Find' button -> find all references to this item. It'll turn up any instances of the item on creatures, in scripts, dialogue, stores, areas, etc. One place it won't check are 2da files, but it's very unlikely a mod is going to be adding new items to the game via random drop tables or import lists. So, my next logical step was, how can I find in the game files where an item is located inside the game, say, for example, in what area is a given sword for which I know the code? Can this be done? Are there tools for this?
