Is there any way to import portraits in the main files so that they appear as default ones along those already there to pick?

And is there any utility to swap portraits of NPCs?

There's instructions in the readme.txt file in your game directory, under "Custom Portraits." Basically, make sure the BMPs are in the right format and put them in the portraits folder.

And is there any utility to swap portraits of NPCs?

There are several mods here and on other sites like gibberlings3.net that do that, or if you have your own, the easiest way is to overwrite the existing NPC portraits in the override folder.

There's instructions in the readme.txt file in your game directory, under "Custom Portraits." Basically, make sure the BMPs are in the right format and put them in the portraits folder.

One should also know that the game has 3 different picture sizes: The xxxxxxxS.bmp is used in the main screen interface(where you move the characters, and do battle etc. and sometimes during a dialogs), it's dimentions are 38x60. The xxxxxxxM.bmp is used in the character interface (where you see the chars statistics etc.), and it's dimentions are 110x170. The xxxxxxxL.bmp is used at the end of the game, it's dimentions are 210x330.
And if the picture is not in the .bmp format, it need to be reformated as one, and as windows can't do that, the very basic picture editing tools can, like the Paint.

And is there any utility to swap portraits of NPCs?

There are several mods here and on other sites like gibberlings3.net that do that, or if you have your own, the easiest way is to overwrite the existing NPC portraits in the override folder.

But I don't know their names... so could someone enlighten us? Make a list.

See the vague info at the end of the second post here. Hint: the BG2 portraits start with 'N' followed by (part of) the NPC's name. It'd take you about 2 minutes to look them up with NearInfinity. Why don't I do it? I'm busy trying to boot a mod out the door, and it's not Alternative Portraits, for which I will need to look up that info anyway... sometime later, after I figure out what I was doing with Jaheira...

There was a recent thread that talked about swapping Jaheira's BG2 portrait for her BG1 portrait:

http://www.shsforums...showtopic=39503

Doesn't look like anyone's been able to confirm the ToB epilogue bit yet.

I would buy GeN1e's 99.99% chance of it working. The only way it wouldn't would be if the epilogue portraits were hardcoded in the engine somewhere. That would be stupid, but the engine is known for doing stupid things. But even if that were the case, if you renamed the BG1 huge portrait to the BG2 huge portrait filename, the hard code is still going to look for that filename, meaning it will work.

My question was different.

I KNOW how to add custom portraits. What I wanted to do is add my custom portraits to the default ones the game gives you.

To use custom portraits you have to press custom button and select big and small version. Instead I wanted to show more custom portraits along those who are included with the game. Just by expanding the choice.

That was the first answer I gave you. Follow the instructions in your readme:

There's instructions in the readme.txt file in your game directory, under "Custom Portraits." Basically, make sure the BMPs are in the right format and put them in the portraits folder.

What Jarno said basically repeats what is already in the readme.

Edit: If what you're saying is you want your portraits to appear with the default character portraits rather than selecting them manually as you describe, then no, as far as I know, those portraits are hardcoded. In theory, you could maybe overwrite them as discussed above, but I don't think there's a way of adding to them.

those portrait names are hardcoded. In theory, you could maybe overwrite them as discussed above, but I don't think there's a way of adding to them.

Well, at least DavidW did that in the IwDinBG2 mod, as he replaced all the BG2 portraits with the IwD once... I found that out by looking the premade NPC in Shadowkeeper, as the new characters had the old looks in the Editor, but the new once in the game.

So if one wishes to add portrait to the standardly selectable once, you have to replace one of the old, and you replace it by putting the new portraits to the override folder so that they have the replaced files names.
