#487199 Increasing backstab multiplier and visual range

Posted by vilkacis on 11 May 2010 - 03:56 PM in IE Help

There is some more info on #262 here. Kind of interesting, though rather uncertain how useful it is.

..."worship"? Arcanists don't worship gods. We ambush them in parking lots, beat them up and steal their lunch money. emot-kaminashades.gif

"Forgotten Realms" has the worst gods ever. I'm thinking the Athar have the right idea.

#487179 Increasing backstab multiplier and visual range

Posted by vilkacis on 11 May 2010 - 01:32 PM in IE Help

The SSoB does not increase backstab modifier in the unmodded game.

Try the Assassin instead. The kit uses SPCL332 to increase backstab modifier - you should be able to copy the effect from there.

#486664 Is Kasumi worth having?

I'm not against paying for new content, but it needs to be both worth it and sanely priced.

Kasumi is really neither, but you can still have plenty of fun with the mission and character and the Locust is a great weapon.

The latest DLC (two bucks for an existing model and two new helmets) is just an insult.

Especially considering that they're both face-concealing, which is the big problem people have had with the full suits from the moment the game came out.

#486571 New DLC is... Underwhelming

Posted by vilkacis on 03 May 2010 - 10:38 PM in Mass Effect Series

Allow me to sum up my thoughts on this in a handy bullet-point list:

  • So much for the "exclusive" pre-order bonus!
  • People who have the pre-order bonus will have to pay for it again in order to get the helmets!
  • This is exactly the kind of things the Cerberus network was created for!
  • Fuck you, Bioware!

#486502 Is Kasumi worth having?

Posted by vilkacis on 03 May 2010 - 08:23 AM in Mass Effect Series

It's horribly overpriced. ME2 (regular edition) costs ~$60 and you get ten characters, each with a recruitment and a loyalty mission (plus, y'know, the actual game). Kasumi costs more than 10% of the game's price... and offers half the content of the original NPCs (since she has no recruitment mission).

That said, she is a fun character and her abilities are useful.

Basically, I don't recommend buying it because you're allowing Bioware (or EA, whatever) to rip you off and encouraging them to do it again. But at the same time, it lasts longer than a bucket of expensive ice cream or a take-out lunch, so it is kind of worth it in a "you could do worse with those seven bucks" kind of way.

#486373 Mass Effect 3 Wish List

Posted by vilkacis on 01 May 2010 - 01:06 PM in Mass Effect Series

^^^

That doesn't excuse ME2. They could have done that instead of creating a separate model for Miranda with her tits hanging out.

What I want? I may have stated this somewhere before, but negative consequences for paragon actions.

The downs to renegade actions are obvious: kill people in ME1, and you don't get their quests/emails/references in ME2. So basically, the game rewards paragon choices, but it seems you get noticeably less content as renegade, even though the choices are supposed to be equal.

I really hate that "being good is better" railroading bullshit, and I was very happy when ME1 appeared to have stepped away from that. Once ME2 rolled in... not so much. (Sure, it's still better than some games, but it's still not good.)

So yeah, if you let the batarian terrorist go in "Bring down the sky"? I want him to come back and blow up something important, and I want it to be very clear that he could only do that because you thought saving three hostages was more important than bringing down someone who was willing and able to murder millions of people and clearly intended to make another attempt as soon as he was out of sight.

There are no "hard" choices if the blue option is always the magical "this is the correct choice" button.

#485858 SHS forum upgrade, new features and new look!

Posted by vilkacis on 24 April 2010 - 11:43 AM in Directives from the Director

I'm guessing it has to do with the fact that the link points to a forums.spellholdstudios.net address rather than a shsforums.net one. I've had similar problems when switching between them in the past.

#485622 Vampiric Wolves!..

Posted by vilkacis on 22 April 2010 - 08:51 PM in Mega Mod Help

Vampiric wolves seem to have immunity to non-magical weapons only, so any kind of +1 weapon or better should do the trick.

Damaging magic works as well, though if you don't even have a single enchanted weapon yet, you probably don't have enough of that to take down a vamp wolf. You should probably avoid the area until you're stronger.

#485318 But Thou Must: Choice in Games with Obsidian

Posted by vilkacis on 19 April 2010 - 01:42 PM in General Gameplay

"Big words are hard right now!"

:D

Edit: The game looks pretty interesting, if they can live up to the hype.

Which no one ever does.

So it's probably going to suck.

Just saying.

#485170 General Protection Error

How long are you waiting when the game doesn't respond? Because at least for me, ME1 loads extremely slowly, but it functions normally once it actually starts.

*snrk*

There is something about Grunt there that just reminds me of Adelbert Steiner. Something about that square, frowny face, and I'm seeing the tail as the tip of a pointy helmet.

Also, I hate those things and their regenerating barriers so much. Next time I'm about to go up against one, I'm going to bring the Cain.

...I have to admit, the more "artist's impression of Tali's face" pics I see, the more I hope she'll really turn out to be made of spiders.

Let's not get into the "artist's impression of other parts of Tali" ones.

#483200 ME3 News

Posted by vilkacis on 29 March 2010 - 02:57 PM in Mass Effect Series

I never said it was right around the corner, I was simply remarking that it might come sooner than what Vicen expected (2012, 2013). But of course, you are right, there are sometimes delay. Besides, all of this is pure speculation at this point.

I never said you did. All I said was that "2011" is not necessarily as close as some people think it sounds.

Casey Hudson has stated that Mass Effect 3 will complete the story arc of Commander Shepard.

And thank ¤?§# for that. After those hints that ME3 wouldn't be the end of Mass Effect, I was starting to get these rather unpleasant visions of *another* never-ending series where the ending is just left hanging and eventually just never happens because all the people involved have gone off to companies that suck less.

More games in the 'verse is fine, but yeah, endings.

#483066 Firewalking fails

Posted by vilkacis on 28 March 2010 - 08:16 AM in Mass Effect Series

Sooo... I just came back from firewalking for ~45 minutes.

Combat-wise, it really is awful. I didn't die once, because while the tank *appears* to be made of tissue paper (it caught on fire after like two hits), there's no need to get close enough for anything to be able to hit you. Tank's range is greater than enemies' range, and they just sit there while you cram rockets up their synthetic asses. Now, I love sniper rifles as much as the next guy (if the next guy is wearing a shirt with I <3 SNIPING printed on it) but that's just silly. It's a *tank*. They're not going to have a problem seeing and aiming at it. It's kind of funny that ME1 had the opposite problem, where you could have an enemy look like a tiny dot through a sniper scope and completely invisible to the naked eye and they'd *still* be able to hit you from halfway across the bloody planet, but I think this is worse.

Recovering things was dumb. If you can't keep the tank steady while it scans the ground, *land*!

As a platformer, though, it was pretty entertaining. Not as entertaining as rocket-boosting off a mountain with the Mako and spinning in the air for 20 seconds, but fun. I liked the lava level.

In the end, it feels like an aside. The Mako was part of the game; you took it everywhere, and it felt natural to have it around during those long overworld trips. The Hammerhead is just a minigame. You find it, use it for a handful of mini-missions, and it will never be mentioned again. Granted, there's not a lot of space for a hovertank in most of ME2's other missions, but it still feels like wasted potential.
