Does anyone remember this cool but buggy game from 1997/8? It was annoying originally because it was so badly programmed, but the idea and mechanics of the game were outstanding. For the normal game, it took a 2.02 patch to fix up the major issues and exploits, and then Impressions decided to revise the game and add more features, naming it Special Edition. Nevertheless, the version 3.00 tag it came with still had issues, and all was left at the end was a buggy version 3.01 beta patch. I guess it makes sense how it died off. Please post your experiences with this game.

Anyway, there is a one-man modding team over there, a guy named ManTerA who is the creator of the GS5 mod. Its like a balancing mod that fixes up a lot of the game's aspects but also injects some of his creativity into the game. The forums for it are over at http://impz.proboard...index.cgi#lomse, and his website is http://mantera.xorga.../mainframe.html. It's pretty cool what he has done, although there are still a few buggy features around the place. Certainly revived the game a bit for me.

I actually decided to take a look how the scripting worked in this game. Within several weeks, I've worked out some of the nuances of modding and made my own little mod. *shameless plug* can be found at http://members.iinet...kwong/lomse.htm. Its so much more complex than IE modding and WeiDU scripting, as it touches on more core programming aspects, but its drawn me in. Interestingly, it has everything, just like the IE engine, that allows modding, PC and TC creation, and new graphics, and so on. However, it does have its own unique limitations as well.

Personally, I thought LOMSE was awesome. Game mechanics and gameplay were fantastic :) Loadin times and everything were the PITS though.

I dug up this oldie because it seems to be one of the few games that will run on the PoS netbook I'm using while traveling. I was going to give Ascension64's 3.02 patch a go, but I can't find the 3.01 patch it requires. The link here just says "Account deaktiviert" when I try to access it, with no download link. Does anyone know where to find the 3.01 patch or if not, post it here if you've got a copy? Cheers.

That's odd, the links work fine for me. I'll upload a copy with this post for you.

Cheers, mate. I think I got the patches loaded and fired up a game - promptly got my arse handed to me in the first cave I entered. 'Spose I'll need to read up on strategy guides or something - I ended up getting BG1 working on the same old machine, which somehow got me more enthralled, despite the fact I've stared at it 1000s of times :D.

No problem. And yeah, BG still has it.
