Okay so I just loaded up BG, TotSC, BGII, and ToB after not having played them for a few years when I stumble across BGT. So I download it, install it, reinstall BG to make it work, install it again, and start up. So I run around Candlekeep marvelling at the higher resolution, only to be frustrated when Reevor refuses to give me the rat extermination "quest". Cannot initiate dialogue -- Reever is busy. Really busy, apparently. Whatever. 50 XP and a piece of jewelry to hock down the drain. After wrapping up all the Candlekeep intro quests, I run to the steps to talk to Gorion and get the heck out. But apparently Gorion is busy too. Anybody know why I can't get out?

Cheers in advance,
Brian

So I did a search for my problem and this thread came up. I am having the same difficulty, and the response was not particularly helpful, particularly since I have Vista, not XP (don't know if there's a difference). Is there anything I can/should have done to fix this? Will fixing entail re-installing any/all of the games? Thanks in advance.

For BG1 or 2?

Because if it's for one, I assumed I was covered by TOTSC. If not, do I have to reinstall WeiDU?

It depends on your game version, which could be anything. You'll have to look at the readme in your game folder, then go on bioware.com to see what the latest version should be. For example, I have BG1 and TotSC on recently-issued DVDs, but I still needed the TotSC patch and the DirectX patch to get it to the latest version. After which, there should be separate readmes for the patch in your game folder.

And you don't "install" WeiDU, you install WeiDU mods, and if you've done that, you'll need to uninstall them (or better, do full/custom game installs from scratch) as you'll need to apply the patches to an unmodded game.

You can easily check your version by right clicking BGMain.exe (BG2 directory), going to Properties, and having a look at the number in the Private Build Description field.

Ok, so to clarify, I'm going to patch my full install BG1+Totsc, uninstall WeiDU from BG2+TOB, then reinstall it? I'm sure I should also patch BG2, although I have the version that they're selling now. Thanks for your explanations and patience.

Like I said, you don't install WeiDU. You must mean "BGT-WeiDU", which people just call BGT. If you've installed that, you're better off uninstalling everything (even BG1 and BG2) and trying again with full, patched installs. Your BG2, if you have ToB, should be 24698 btw.

You might want to follow these instructions when you get started again too.
