Hi, I've been trying to play this great game, I have past the Mortuary no problem and have mostly started the "Hive" area...

Though now I'm having problems there, every time I try to go inside somewhere (such as Angyar's house and the way back to the mortuary) when the loading screen is on the game closes and gives me an error "An Assertion failed in D:\Torment\Source\baldur\CVisibility.cpp at line number 1526"...I have tried countless things, deleting auto save, re-installing the game and trying it without any mods, with only one or two different mods at a time, pretty much everything, any fix out there on the net is usually to resolve "809" but mine is 1526 and those solutions don't work.

I have also looked at the .ini and found no reference to "D" (which is my CD/DVD drive) and the path to the game's installation was correct (in some cases with some other people it was wrong so correcting it worked for them but not for me).

None of this happened the first time I got to the Hive...it started happening once I wanted to return to Angyar's house and then I tried others to see if it happened everywhere and it does...mostly, it doesn't happen in one of the houses where a female mage is practicing spells.

I don't know what to do anymore, I really want to play the game and if anybody could help me it would be great.

EDIT: I'm using Windows XP Service Pack 3

System Specs (kinda old):

AMD64 3500+
1.5gb ram
XFX 6800gt

Erm, the assertion outputs the source file path which was valid at compile time.
As far as I know PS:T is not opensoucred, so it's pretty unlikely that the *.cpp files are on your machine anyway :)

Same here, just installed from the GameStar DVD, full install, patch, then the FixPack, Unfinished Business and then the Widescreen Mod.
Mod overview, Widescreen Mod

Googling pointed me to Game Spot Forums, and I tried that: start a new game, save it, get out, remove the .\override\*.WED files (two of them with exactly that spelling) and reload the old game, and whoops, I'm one of the 0.1% mentioned.

I can still start over because I'm not that far, but is there anything else I can do? Convert old saved games and the like?

Cheers,
Jan

BTW, after removing the WideScreen patch the problem is gone again.

I actually tried this without any mods (including the widescreen mod) judging by the pretty obvious error but it still didn't work, I uninstalled all the "resoution" mods (widescreen, widescreen menu fix) and the same thing still happened...I don't know what to do anymore, I really want to play that game because it's awesome but we'll see...

My guess is, you are continuing to attempt to use save game files that were created when you had mods installed. From the symptoms, you probably played for a while at a particular resolution, and then you reinstalled the resolution mod to change the resolution. You cannot do this. If you change the resolution, you need to start a new game.

Yup. i had the same problems once with "An Assertion failed blahlblah.... 15260" error and 2nd patching with WS mod was the case of it.

At first i started playing the game at 768x480, then midgame i decided to switch to 896x560 by using WS patch again:/
That caused CVisibility.cpp error in only all small areas (small rooms & etc) which were accesed earlier under 768x480 resolution.

Switching resolution back to 768x480 fixed it and there were no probs if i tried to access areas which were "cleared" under 896x560.
So I guess that CVisibility.cpp error happens only if you patch again to larger resolution compared to your initial WS one.

p.s.
If someone wonders about my custom resolutions:
In most cases, a non-standard/custom resolution (like 768x480 & etc) which you want to use in any game, must be first created under your Nvidia control panel. Once you successfully created your custom resolution there, a game should not have any problems handling it.
I prefer to play oldies (FO1/2 & etc) on my 24" 16:10 display @768x480 or 896x560 and maybe 1024x640.
At larger 16:10 resolutions like 1280x800, 1440x900, 1680x1050, 1920x1200 stuff becomes a way too tiny.

Hello everyone.
I'm new to these forums, so please forgive my ignorance if my problem is posted in the wrong spot here :/

I'm having trouble running an unmodded copy of Planescape: Torment. My copy of the game is 2-discs, and I run windows 7 home premium as my OS. My computer is about 2 months old, having just gotten it around christmas when my old one died on me because the powersource gave out after 6 years.

I am having a strange bug here with this game. I'll post a copy of it as a png below here in a moment, but I want to go over the problems I've had first.

Ok, I was able to install this game and run it without problems about a week ago. I got a good hour into the game, when HP advisor decided to restart my computer to apply some security update without warning. (I now have HP advisor's auto-update disabled, btw).

Well, after that is when the game stopped working properly. The game's Torment.exe's icon didn't show up properly, and the game wouldn't run, so I did the first thing that I could think of: I uninstalled the game, to reinstall it.
Reinstalling didn't work- it said
"iKernel.exe Could Not Be Installed (0x5)" and "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\InstallShield\Engine\6\Intel 32" could not be created, please make sure you have the appropriate privileges to create this folder.

To fix it, I checked a LOT of websites, and although I couldn't delete the old Install Shield folder inside of my Common Files (despite enabling the administrator account and trying repeatedly to do it from there) and then rerun an ikernelupdate.exe file (which is what most sides said would fix the problem) I figured out today that I could just rename the InstallShield folder "InstallShieldOLD" and then reinstall the game, letting install shield recreate itself. So that problem is fixed.

The problem I am having now:
An assertion error! I am so confused.
I am attaching a screenshot of this new error, with the box for it on top of my disc drives. My E drive is my CD/DVD drive, where I put CD's in, my C drive is my actual main drive, and the rest of the drives are virtual drives that I have set up, and have not been using (so for all intensive purposes, I think they can be ignored.
The error, you'll see, is coming from my D drive, which is "factory image" and I don't exactly know what its for, but its been there since I first started up my computer a few months ago. I'm not completely sure what it does, but it says its there for system recovery, and not to change any of the (presumably hidden) files inside.
Any idea what I should do to fix my error here?

(The version of the game I'm using is comes pre-patched to version 1.1.
I'm not running any mods yet- I have to get the game running again before I install any mods, one step at a time, right?)

First of all, install the game to C:\Games\PST -folder so it has nothing to do with the Program Files or Program Files (x86) -folders. Next open the torment.ini and look at the lines after the [Alias] -header, the file paths should be where your game is at, not to D: drive from which you would get the error.

When I installed it to the a directory other than Program Files (86) it now works!
Thanks! I've been trying to get it working for a week, and now its all good. I really appreciate it.
In the future I'll install all games outside the program files directories.

Where did you install the game into ? And did you make an unofficial full install like for example you need to, to install the Widescreen mod ?

I installed it like any game. I put it onto the C drive and it worked fine before I put that mod on. I tried to reinstall it as mentioned in the posts above but now it seems the data on the CD has become corrupted. I don't think it will work at all now :(

I wasn't talking about to which drive, but about the exact location... say you install to the default location... the only problem is that as the new Windows Operation Systems come with "virus" protection and software override protection that mirrors the used programs from the programData folder, not from the Program Files folder, any changes made to the files, including pre 2005 windows certified patches that override files are not actually read at all... that is if you do install to the Program Files sub-folders, which just happens to be the default installation directory.

I installed it like any game.

You cannot hide behind that because you modified it after, well tried to.

Hey all,

my solution to assertion errors due to exiting areas was to kill my main character which triggers respawn in nearest area without efectively solving problem.

Hope it helps
