CTD in BTL

I keep on having CTDs in BTL. They only happen when I get those messages saying 'Your harbouring of Kova...' I found a workaround by using Ctrl-Y on them the moment I get the auto-pause for enemy sighted, but that doesn't seem to work on my latest one. I Ctrl-Y the first lot fine, but then I get a message saying 'Your lack of evidence...' and the game crashes before any new enemies show up.

Enable Logging On=1 in your baldur.ini as described here, reproduce the crash, then post the contents of the baldur.err file that should appear in your game folder after the crash.

Huh... Now I don't seem to have a problem anymore...

I tried to get the crash again and it didn't want to work! Sods law I suppose...

If it does happen again, I'll post the error log here.

Holy crap - are those all from BtL or have you got other mods? Might as well post the contents of your WeiDU.log file in your game folder too.

That last one (and the one you seem to get most often) is a store or container bug. Could be a bag that has no store associated with it.

But we need to know what you were doing, where you were when you got each of those crashes, otherwise it's pretty much impossible to troubleshoot.

That is my Weidu log, most of the other errors I managed to find workarounds for, so I'm not overly worried about them. It's just this one.

When you say, "It's just this one" - which do you mean, the last error message? Because from what I can tell, BtL doesn't add any stores or containers that would generate that message. If you're not sure of the exact message, delete or move your baldur.err and then reproduce the exact crash to get just the related message.

BtL does, however, have some creatures with invalid inventory slots. In theory this shouldn't be much of a problem but it has in fact caused problems in other mods. In practice the engine seems to try to generate bad items, in some cases with irrational charges or flags beyond what the engine might be able to handle.

You can try installing the "Realistic Random Treasures" component of Aurora's Shoes which should fix this. It should tell you so by reporting the results in a spreadsheet file in /aurora/backup/invalid_slots.csv. For the record, the affected CREs from BtL would be:

z#assas1 (Assasin) - 2 invalid slots
z#dayven (Inspector Dayven) - 2 invalid slots
z#pri2 (Priest of Cyric) - 1 invalid slot

There is no good way to fix this manually, because editing the CREs in DLTCEP crashes the program and NI is unreliable for this type of editing (which is probably how these CREs were created in the first place).

I don't know if that Aurora component fixed the problem, but I can't think of what else it could be in this case. But it should be easy to find out and fix rather than trying to hack around with the CREs manually. Just install BtL, then the Realistic Random Treasures component from Aurora, then copy the CREs from the override back to your mod folder, since they should be fixed. You may just need to verify they have the random treasure items (rndtre##.itm) you intended, but that's about it. If you get other crashes, the baldur.err message should always help narrow it down.
