Hi everybody. Seems like I'll never get to start a game with this new setup. Finally solved all my other problems, and now I've run into this one:

Using an install I've used a million times before, though perhaps with some slight changes to the options installed from each mod, I'm getting an error when I try to start a new game. I can launch BG2 just fine, also click New Game, but after clicking New Game the GUI hangs for a beat, then loads half-way, then crashes and gives me this error:

Is this with a new character or pre-generated one that might be having a helm equipped ?
Tha't just a quick guess but the reason for that crash is the 1pp's mistake with a helm that the BWP Fixpack corrects...

Yep, Jarno Mikkola. my Mega Mod FAQ. Use of the BWS, and how to use it(scroll down that post a bit).

Thanks for the quick reply!

It's not with a character at all. It's when I try to start a new game. When it loads (i.e. before character creation), the game crashes and gives me the error.

Also, I have BWP Fixpack installed :/

Man, I just found out I had used BWP Fixpack wrongly all this time. I didn't realize you had to unpack all your mods in the main folder first. I'm such an idiot. Reinstalling.

Actually you should extract the archives(some of the .exe's are self-extracting archive) to a custom folder from which you should cut-paste them to the game folder, the reason is that some of the archives try to auto start the mod installation, which can lead to very bad things, so the cut paste is better.... and then either start the BiG World Fixpack.bat or the BiG World install.bat ... or just let the BiG World Setup.vbs do all this and other things for you with a customized compilation and all.

Is that the reason for my current issue? So I'll have to start the installation over for what seems like the 10th time? :(

Damn.

So let me get this straight:

1) I extract everything to an empty folder. By winRAR and self-extracting .exe.

2) Then I run BWP Fixpack.

3) Then I copy-paste into the BG2 directory.

4) Then I install the mods.

That should solve the issue? I really, really don't want to go through 2-3 hours of installation again with the same result.

With the major rewrite, yes, this quote above is now exactly what you need to do.

No real idea here, just a couple of thoughts:

~DDRAWFIX/DDRAWFIX.TP2~ #0 #0 // DDrawFix -> Force DirectDraw Emulation: v1.0

Why would you want this? I thought BG2 used OpenGL which is superior to Direct Draw? I think you can prevent graphic issues in BG2 directly from the configuration settings, as stated here.

~1PP_AVATARS/SETUP-1PP_AVATARS.TP2~ #0 #0 // 1PP: Avatar fixes * female elves w. leather armour [EFB2]: v3
(...)

Am I missing anything here, or aren't you just installing the same thing again? (and an earlier version at that)

The first: No clue. I haven't made a choice to install that, so I assume it comes auto-packed.

Second: I think it was someone in this thread who told me to install 1ppv3 avatar fixes. Apparantly 1PPv4 has some issues with avatars, but those are fixed with the older fixpack.

Man, this really sucks. I was gettin' hyped to play BG2 having finally finished 1 again, and this is third spout of issues I've had. I must have installed and re-installed 15 times now.

Apparantly 1PPv4 has some issues with avatars, but those are fixed with the older fixpack.
So just do not install the 1pp v3 on top of the v4 and you should be ok.

PS, the BWP has this to say about:

1.16 One Pixel Productions v4 (1)
~1PP.TP2~
This is an essential mod that improves with attention to detail, the graphics of BGII.

This mod combines and complements the previously disjointed mods 1PP v2.7, 1PP v3: Avatar Fixes 2, 1PP v3: Female
Dwarves, 1PP v3: Thieves Galores v1.1 and a few more to one huge single mod.

The current Item Revisions is mostly compatible with 1PPv4, but avoid installing 1PPv4 shield and helmet components.
IR still has to be installed after 1PP core components.
Aurora's main component also patches BGMain.exe, therefore 1PP component Unique Thief Avatars can not be installed
after Aurora.
NOTE: This mod must be installed in two steps! Only the components Core paperdolls and Core content patches
should be installed before Item Revisions. All the others components must be installed to the end of the megamod.
The v4 having some problems with the avatars is likely reason why there is v4.1.0 today...

Damn. Maybe I'm just an idiot but this moddin' thing seems to have gotten more complex than in the olden days.

Alright, trying again, just without 1PPv3 fixes this time.

Nope... it just has more options and it seems to have grown there huge junks they call arms and legs, and now it's wondering around pretending to be intelligent, while we all know it's just a zombified monstrosity, with bad breath.

Your predictions seem off Jarno :/

16th install. No dice. I tried starting a new game after 1PP install, worked fine. Finished the installation - crash.

god fuckin' dammit

Maybe stupid suggestion and you already tried it, but how about you start a new game after every mod, so you can narrow it down to culprit.

Yep, that's my plan for next install. I'm going to pick this up again, but I'm pretty tired of reinstalling twenty times now, so I'm giving it a rest for just a bit.
