A non-trivial number of people seem to be complaining about BGT's requiring a separate mod to reduce spell/trap/lock XP rewards to something sensible:

http://forums.biowar...t...57&forum=17

Given the nature of the issue, I think it would make sense for you to rip out the DEF JAM code and put it in the BGT core install with some sensible value, or copy across a new 2da. Make it an optional component, whatever, but it's a very silly reason for people to be uninstalling the mod.

I agree, especially since :
- Your mod is required for playing with BGT-WeiDU
- Some components (Reduce SoA starting XP, Reduce Quest XP) are incompatible with BGT-WeiDU (here)

OK, thanks Sim and Anomaly for pointing this out. Does BG1 give any rewards at all for scribing scrolls, picking locks, and disarming traps?

IIRC, vanilla BG1 does not give any XP for any of those. I have just finished the BG1 part of BGT, and with NTOSC, DSOTC and doing most quests, my party of five (with three scroll scribing mages) ended with 650 000 XP each. Admittedly, I tend to powergame and used all the resources I could find during the game, but this was an overkill
On the other hand, I would like to congratulate everyone involved in the bgt modding environment, for during my thorough playthrough, I never encountered a game-breaking bug

Not that I can recall - this was, I believe, a new feature of BG II. Getting 1000 xp for scribing a 1st lvl scroll, or 450 xp for opening a lock is not much of an issue when you are starting at 7-10 lvl, as in BG II. Getting a Bard, say, to 5th lvl by the time you meet Xzar [take his scrolls, kick him out and then scribe] in a BG I setting *is* an issue....

I thought it was a trivial amount of XP, like 10 per scroll, lock, etc. Though that might just be Tutu.

In BG1, you don't get ANY xp for learnings spells, lock picking, nor trap disarming. I am sure of that. In Tutu you get 1% of BG2 XP. In BGT-WeiDU with DEF JAM, you can't get below than 10% of BG2 XP.

By the way, I am still for the inclusion of reduced XP rewards in BGT-WeiDU, but the problem is that players will probably want to uninstall that component once in the BG2 part of the game. But it seems that uninstalling mods in the middle of an install corrupts installation (here, and one fellow French player confirmed by PM that (s)he has got the same problem). Furthermore, I have already reported another severe bug in WeiDU while uninstall mods and using the [Q]uit prompt.

OK then. AFAIK, there isn't a way to dynamically change the amount of XP you get for performing these actions, so it will have to be some kind of component that can be installed/uninstalled at whim.

I think there is a WeiDU problem with this. I know that uninstalling middle components and re-installing them in BG1UB for Tutu causes install-breaking problems with WeiDU. What mods are involved in your cases?

We do this because it avoids the rather unprofessional-looking situation where you repeatedly get told you've earned 0 XP. It has basically no effect on the game, but saves it looking silly.

@SimDing0: I did'nt know that, but it makes sense. 1% XP does not hurt either. :)

@Ascension64: You can find my Weidu.log here. I was uninstalling "TOB style NPCs" from BG2 Tweaks, late in my log. It killed the Worldmap.

I have also seen this with a Baldurdash-WeiDU 1.63 + NEJ 6.9.1 + BG2 Tweaks v4 (the latter upgraded WeiDU to 198). Uninstalling one component from Baldurdash-WeiDU killed NEJ.

In case people uses AI enhancing mods, then I believe the amount of XP you gain is pretty much balanced in Baldur's Gate 1 (perhaps even too little) and even Baldur's Gate 2 (perhaps a little too much here instead). It is Throne of Bhaal that might benefit the most of DefJam. This is my opinion, at least...
