#408771 Revan (Spoilers)

Damn my work firewalls not letting me onto GameBanshee! ;)

#408755 Revan (Spoilers)

Posted by Klorox on 31 July 2008 - 05:52 AM in KotOR Series

Hm.. that's the thing, though, with what we know of Revan. Revan's a Jedi.. and since we don't know anything about his/her past before the Jedi Order, it's safest to assume he/she was taken in by the Order as a child. But of course, that's just speculations.

I'd say Scout/Sentinel, yes. And then, if we throw in KotOR II's prestige classes, to Jedi Master/Sith Lord.

I know we're looking at a maxed out Persuasion, Computer Use, and Repair also.  My only snag here is that Sentinels don't get Computer Use or Repair, but I think that Consulars do (can anybody confirm this?).

I guess I'm still having a hard time understanding why Sentinel makes more sense than Consular.

As Choo said, you can switch to any paperdoll you like a the appearance tab. I used the elf-thief one.

But would you still kick and punch like a monk, or would you make barehanded attacks that just don't look right (just like an IWDII Monk)?

#408559 Your PC! Please share.

Posted by Klorox on 30 July 2008 - 05:39 AM in Baldur's Gate Series

Name: Narra
Race: Elf (Avariel)
Class: Monk (I love Shadowkeeper)

Alignment: Depending on whether or not the taint is active it ranges from Lawful Good to Chaotic Neutral.

The sprite is still human though, right? Is ther eany way to get an elf monk avatar? A dwarf (I played a dwarf monk when 3e first came out)?

#408557 A Series of Queries: BG1 Version

The guards are carrying quarterstaves because the metal is crumbling.  People still sell the stuff because they can. :)

#408552 Revan (Spoilers)

Posted by Klorox on 30 July 2008 - 05:26 AM in KotOR Series

Mmm.. I still think Anaximander's Sentinel->Jedi Master would fit Revan best, at least pre-KotOR1. In KotOR1.. well, that's up to the player.

I am unfamiliar with KotOR II.

I know in KotOR I it's up to the player. My intention in this discussion is to determine how to best replicate what Revan was with what we know about him/her, with a whole lot of speculation thrown in.

What's the best way to imitate the Sentinel/Jedi Master in KotORI? Would it be a low level non-Jedi with 15+ Sentinel levels?

I could definitely see a Scout 4/Sentinel being a cool character and a fairly loyal representation of Revan.

#408546 Revan (Spoilers)

Posted by Klorox on 30 July 2008 - 05:04 AM in KotOR Series

I agree with Anaximander.

Klorox: Revan built HK-47, Kreia speaks about his/her "devotion to things dead to the force", technology which is probably both repair and computer and possibly even demolition, and Revan's persuade skill must've been out of bounds.

And yeah, Malak's a Guardian. He's Force Jumping.

I agree with Anaximander as well. Great post.

And I don't know how, but I forgot about him building HK-47. LOL!

I'm pretty sure I've seen pictures of him in Scout clothing. This fits for the Computer Use and Repair skills. OTOH, I'm pretty sure Consulars get those skills too.

Consular probably fits him best. In game terms, I think a Scout/Consular might be the closest to what he's intended to be then.

Maybe stats like this: 10/14/12/14/14/14

#408094 It's not about good and evil

Posted by Klorox on 29 July 2008 - 03:51 AM in Baldur's Gate Series

I should just say, I mostly use evil, as in the scale to rate killers(1-22)

LOL. My Wife loves that show.

I don't want to delve into philisophical debates over good vs. evil in real world terms. In D&D, things are a lot more black and white than in the real world.

If I'm actually roleplaying, it's easy to distinguish what's good and what's evil. If I'm just playing a video game, it's about getting as well prepared (or as powerful as possible) to tackle the challenges ahead.

#408093 Revan (Spoilers)

Posted by Klorox on 29 July 2008 - 03:45 AM in KotOR Series

Since I've read that Malak lost his jaw in a lightsaber duel with Revan, you could assume Revan is a superior warrior. Since Malak is a Guardian (at least I think he is), Revan would have to be as well, wouldn't he?

Maybe he just got a sneak attack in? :whistling:

In all seriousness, that could have just been a lucky shot, doesn't really mean he is also a guardian.

Oh, you're absolutely correct. This is all speculative. :)

#407909 What's your party?

Posted by Klorox on 28 July 2008 - 09:41 AM in Icewind Dale Series

I completed IWD 1 on HoF from the beginning.  It was very tough at the beginning, but after the pass, I thought the game actually got a lot easier.

Here's the party I had:

Human Paladin
Half Elf Cleric/Ranger
Elf Fighter/Mage/Thief
Half Elf Bard
Half Elf Fighter/Druid
Gnome Fighter/Illusionist

Multiclasses make this game a lot easier.  You do NOT need a single-classed wizard.  I had high level spell slots left empty, even for my F/M/T because I could not find scrolls fast enough.

#407877 If BG3 was made...

Posted by Klorox on 28 July 2008 - 07:36 AM in Baldur's Gate Series

What? "<Charname> Does the Heartlands?"

The PC's name must be Debbie, then. I tried to meet her in Dallas but couldn't find her.

Lot's of other people found her!

I'd completely forgotten about the Portentous Men wearing Cowls of Doom and having Floppy Wrists of Death from the end of SoA. Does anyone know who the hell they were? Was one of them Mellisan pre-op?

I think they were the working concept of the antagonists from ToB. Anyway, I'd love to see a remake of every IE game in GemRB. It'd be awesome. That way, every single bug could be fixed and every mod worked in during the development process. ;)

That's exactly what I thought as well.

I think a prequel might be a neat idea, but no matter what it'll never be as good as the original. It's like making the Star Wars prequels. Better off to just let BG RIP.

#407865 KotOR I = "Total Recall"

Posted by Klorox on 28 July 2008 - 07:07 AM in KotOR Series

It's a pretty neat comparison though, isn't it?  I was just daydreaming and noticed quite a few similarities.

Thanks for pointing out a few more, and of course, it's not a perfect comparison. :)

#407832 KotOR I = "Total Recall"

Posted by Klorox on 28 July 2008 - 05:00 AM in KotOR Series

I'm relatively new to this game and forum, but I was wondering if anybody else sees many parallels between this game and the story in the movie "Total Recall".

In both, there's a bad guy who loses his memory, fights for good, and (at least in my games) when he finally realizes who he really is, still decides to be a good guy and save the day.

#407831 Revan (Spoilers)

Posted by Klorox on 28 July 2008 - 04:51 AM in KotOR Series

Considering you are Revan, the skills, feats and class can be what ever in the anti-heaven you wish. -_-

I'll bite. Pretty sure Klorox was refering to the canon/Mandalore War/pre-game version of Revan... Not the amnesic, Endar Spire dwelling, <CHARNAME> version of Revan.

Of course I was. Jarno's being a wise guy. ;)

Again, I'm interested in finding out what class, skills, and feats the canonical Revan probably posessed. I think it's an interesting debate. :)

I still insist on a Sentinel. I agree with Bluenose about the high INT and CHA, but a high INT says more about Revan being a Sentinel than a Consular, as does the average/low WIS I picture, as well.

I don't think stats define what class Revan was.

Since I've read that Malak lost his jaw in a lightsaber duel with Revan, you could assume Revan is a superior warrior. Since Malak is a Guardian (at least I think he is), Revan would have to be as well, wouldn't he?

Choo Choo, what makes you think Revan has a lot of skills?

There's a place in KotoR 2 when the Exile encounters a vision of Revan in Darth Revan mode, and that version wields two lightsabers. I can't remember any force powers being used, possibly some of the "buffs". There's also a Darth Revan mini in one of the sets Wizards make - Force Unleashed, I think. That version has a single lightsaber. By canon, he is male and ultimately LS, and able to defeat Mandalore in hand to hand combat.

I never knew about the dual lightsabers. Neat!

#407225 Revan (Spoilers)

Posted by Klorox on 24 July 2008 - 03:19 PM in KotOR Series

Judging from cutscene movies and other official pictures and stuff, what should Revan have in stats, feats, skills, powers, ect.?

I've read the according to Lucas, Revan is canonically a male. He also ends up being a good guy (Light-Side).

I've only seen stuff with 1 lightsaber.

I've also read that his clothes in pictures are always the clothes of a Scout (but I can not remember actually ever seeing this).

Canderous says Revan was a master tactitian, which leads you to believe he's probably got a high INT.

Any other stuff y'all can think of?

Anything else?

#406986 What is your most common Bioware party?

Posted by Klorox on 23 July 2008 - 07:00 AM in Baldur's Gate Series

Anything with Aerie, Jaheira and Jan. One of my most fun parties is with those 3 and an Elf Fighter/Mage/Thief. I absolutely love multiclassed characters!

Smaller (4 person) parties work better for me as well.

#406985 Fleshing out my Scoundrel 7/Guardian power build

Posted by Klorox on 23 July 2008 - 06:58 AM in KotOR Series

Wow, I'm strongly considering the Lightsaber Throw now. If I can attack 3 targets, at range, with my Sneak Attacks thrown in there I could be in pretty good shape! :)

#406969 First time player suggestions

Posted by Klorox on 23 July 2008 - 04:29 AM in IE Modding Discussion

I'm going to go against the norm here and suggest for a first timer to NOT use Tutu. The game definitely has a different feel without it, and you'd play BG the way it was originally intended.

A lot of the kits available in Tutu make the game very unbalanced.

And play a warrior, or multi-classed warrior type the first time.

#406785 What's the closest character to a Jedi I can play?

Posted by Klorox on 22 July 2008 - 03:57 AM in Baldur's Gate Series

<_<

Obviously the only choice is a gnome illusionist.

"These are not the turnips you're looking for..."

I may have to try that mod if I ever play BG again.

Thank you for starting my day off like this. :D :D :D

#406696 What's the closest character to a Jedi I can play?

Posted by Klorox on 21 July 2008 - 11:34 AM in Baldur's Gate Series

I've been seriously into Star Wars, even more than usual for a while now. I'd like to play a character that resembles a Jedi in BGII.

What's my best shot?

The closest I can think of off-hand is an elf F/M with the avatar changed to look like a mage.

#406676 Fleshing out my Scoundrel 7/Guardian power build

Posted by Klorox on 21 July 2008 - 08:32 AM in KotOR Series

Skills:
Persuasion, and anything else. I?d suggest a few points in Stealth, which has one nasty use involving sneak attacks and Advanced Lightsaber Throw. I?d suggest a point in Security, since that?s always useful, but more than one is probably unnecessary. Pick up a point in Perception as well, maybe more than one. I like more skill points than your choice of INT and classes give you, but I like to have a few points in Treat Injury and Demolitions early on.

the Lightsaber Throw/Sneak Attack combo is a sweet one. I might use that power instead of the insanity tree, but there's one thing holding me back: I'm playing a Guardian, so what difference does a Lightsaber Throw make to me when I can just Force Jump instead (and still get all the Sneak Attack Bonus)?

I'm not big into giving the protagonist Awareness. The reason is that Awareness is actually a party shared skill, this means that if one party member has a high awareness, it's treated as if all of them have this awareness stat. You'll notice this especially in the Rakghoul area when carth will pick up a mine (which he has no business noticing) but Mission is in the party. Anyway, since Jedi have so few class skills, I have all of my Jedi NPCs max out Awareness (since I always try to have at least 1 other Jedi with me at all times). As for Treat Injury, I'm almost done with Taris with this build and I honestly hardly ever get hit. It's sweet!

#406670 Fleshing out my Scoundrel 7/Guardian power build

Posted by Klorox on 21 July 2008 - 08:22 AM in KotOR Series

Thanks guys. This has turned into a big debate over at the Bioware website. Here's what was finalized, let me know which you like better:

It was determined that a DEX based build would be more effective, as either DEX or STR is used for BAB with a lightsaber, and while STR adds to damage, DEX helps Defense and Reflex saves (and is therefore more valuable).

Base Stats with final in parenthesis:

S:11(14) D:16(34) C:14 I:8 W:13(18) Ch:14

This is how those stats are achieved (sorry, I can't remember all the item named off the top of my head): +3 STR from Light-side Mastery, +5 DEX from level-ups, +5 DEX from Implants, +3 DEX from Gloves, +3 DEX from Belt, +2 DEX from headgear, and +5 WIS from the final robes.

Here are the feats:

Critical Strike 1 (free)
Power Attack 1,2,3
Two Weapon Fighting 1,2,3
Implants 1,2,3
Conditioning 1

Here are the Force Powers:

Speed tree (3)
Cure tree (2)
Wave tree (3)
Affect Mind
Energy Resistance tree (2)
Insanity tree (3)

Note-- I'm not sold on Insanity, as this is a LS build and that tree is a DS one. I'll take suggestions here, and I've thought of using the Droid tree instead

Weapon: Double-Bladed Lightsaber with: Solari, Heart of the Guardian, Upari crystals.

Skills:
Persuasion (max)
Computer Use (1)
Security (1)
Stealth (1)
Demolitions (whatever points are left over)

The reason behind concentrating on Demolitions is because it's a class skill of Scoundrels. 1 point is in Security, Computers, and Stealth so that I can use items to boost these skills when needed (you always know when you will need these skills and have time to change items... usually headgear and gloves for computers, demolitions, and security, and a belt for stealth).

Thanks for the time to read all this guys! Let me know why y'all think.

#406667 Weird bug: I get "item gained" message when I quicksave

Posted by Klorox on 21 July 2008 - 08:08 AM in KotOR Series

WEird.  Is there any way to fix it?

#406402 Weird bug: I get "item gained" message when I quicksave

Posted by Klorox on 19 July 2008 - 03:12 PM in KotOR Series

It only happens sometimes, and I can't seem to track down what's being added to my character's inventory.

Anybody ever have this problem before?

This has only happened in my most recent game.  I've never seen it happen before on this (or any) installation.

#406367 ...and now, the Build I'm actually playing in KotOR I

Posted by Klorox on 19 July 2008 - 10:28 AM in KotOR Series

IMHO, Power Attack is the best of the attack feat chains.
