I now know that BGII works well with the BG2 Fixpack installed, and I'm eager to add and test more mods. Today the idea occurred to me that I might want to install a mod, test it, then uninstall even if it works fine, then install a different mod, test that, uninstall, and continue down my list of mods. If each one works well on its own, then I could begin installing one mod after another, to see how many will work well together (which is really my main point in all this).

While I don't expect that all these will work together in a playable game, I'm determined to get as many of them as I can to run as close as possible to desired behavior ;) Then I'll happily announce the results, and hopefully the information will be useful to other OS X users/players, and to the mod authors themselves.

I've got work to do... ;) Any and all commentary on this is most welcome!

BG2 Fixpack and 1PP (all but potions) working fine in test game, but I'll try getting to Chapter 3 before moving forward to install Item Revisions and test further...

I hope that's not the order in which you're planning on installing mods. You'll want to use the BWP as a guide for that.

I hope that's not the order in which you're planning on installing mods. You'll want to use the BWP as a guide for that.


Jedi and Sith is a BG2 mod, all right. Don't recall where I got it from. I had to edit it to replace all instances of the ampersand to "_and_" after learning that UNIX doesn't like having such characters as ampersands and apostrophes in file or directory names. Just checking it out, but I don't expect to use it much, so eventually I'll delete it.

From the readme file: "This mod will introduce two fighter kits Jedi and Sith, who are from Star Wars, into your game. They will give you a new fantastic adventure experience. This mod requires ToB installed."

No, that's not the install order by any means! I follow the current BiG World instructions (I have the .pdf of v8.3 as of this writing).

Installed Item Revisions and ran a brief test game. Some inventory items have no images (this happened the last time I used Item Rev). I notice that Defender of Easthaven and Gauntlets of Extraordinary Specialization are two such items. They have descriptions, and perform as they should, but on the inventory screen, they're "invisible." The character's animation on the map screens shows a flail in hand when wielding Defender of Easthaven, and the paperdoll also shows as holding the weapon in hand.

Is there a fix for this, or is it something I must simply accept? Would be nice to have all items show themselves on the inventory screen, of course ;)

Update: Got the hotfixes for this from G3. Uninstalled IR, placed the files where appropriate, and reinstalled IR. Problem solved, and the item inventory images are beautiful, I must say! :)

Jedi and Sith is a BG2 mod, all right.

It's indeed a BG2 Kit mod, download-able from the Sorcerer's Place, here is a link that will lead to it(direct link).

Installed TDD today, and now testing. I included the kits, but haven't checked 'em out yet (I have to boot into OS 9 in order to create new characters; I'll use NearInfinity to give a character a kit that isn't listed in the creation process, until I install the mod that lets me scroll down the kit list for each class).

So far, the mod appears to work as it should. My party encountered three otyughs instead of one in Chateau Irenicus, and all went as expected. Testing continues.

I don't think that you will have luck with exe-patches like the ToBEx-launcher.
They modify the executable, so I guess it will not work for OSX.

Testing has come to a screeching halt; I now get a CTD whenever I click the Rest button, no matter where the party is. My test game is in Chapter 2. This wasn't happening before I installed The Darkest Day (and that mod appears to be working as it should), but now the game is unplayable. The error is an Assertion Failure in line 1536 (I discovered this by booting into OS 9.2.2, and trying to rest the party; the crash happened, and a little dialog box appeared that listed the failure).

I've just posted about this at G3, so I'm hoping to get information on how to fix this...preferably without omitting TDD from my install entirely.

Just wanted to keep this thread updated. When I get resolution, I'll post in the interest of being helpful to modders and players alike :)

A thought about the CTD on rest issue I'm having (and this will relate the thread more closely to BWP) - might the BiG World Fixpack's TDD fixer files solve the problem? I don't recall having applied them. My recent experience has been that some BWF files correct problems, while others create problems, in my particular installation.

The answer is NO :( I applied the changes in the BiG World Fixpack for TDD, then reinstalled that mod. Deleted the contents of the BGII cache, temp, and tempsave folders, then launched BGII and loaded my saved test game. My party talked with Mae'Var, as they're following the Shadow Thieves quest, and got their first assignment. Went to the Temple District, then got the Unseeing Eye quest, so they entered the sewers. Clicked on the Rest button, and got Imoen's dream sequence. Right after the dream, and the fade to black, I got a CTD when the game tried to rest the party.

I'm at a loss here. The party consists of my own pre-made character, Minsc, Jaheira, Yoshimo, Nalia, and Aerie. They all appear to function as they should. I don't have any huge stacks of items, no bags of holding. Every aspect of the game appears to work as it should, with the exception of the Rest function, which is resulting in the CTD 100% of the time.

Help needed and appreciated :)

Started a new test game, just to see if I'll get the same CTD as with the game before (I have both games saved). These are multiplayer, but I'm controlling all the characters. Current party consists of three pre-made characters, who have just entered the Circus in Waukeen's Promenade. I'll add Aerie and proceed from there, and rest at my earliest opportunity.

The new test game is going well. No CTDs so far :) Four pre-made characters plus Aerie are currently working for Edwin, per Mae'Var's instruction. Party is about to enter Rayic Gethras' house. They did the slavers quest and the Bridge District portion of the murders quest before talking with Bloodscalp. They've rested in a few inns so far, so this is encouraging!

I'll see how far I can get, and if I make it to Chapter 3, I'll stop the game, install Shadows over Soubar (main component only, per BiG World instructions) and start a new test game.

Test game looking promising, the more I play through. Thief Stronghold quest finished; now doing Unseeing Eye quest. Not sure how much more I'll want to do in Chapter 2 before moving into Chapter 3, but part of me feels it's not necessary to go that far before installing SoS and starting a new test game.

Nice to have things working properly for a change ;)

My install checks out with TDD, and I'm satisfied enough to move along. I took the game into Chapter 3, and managed the main character's thieves guildhouse. The only unexpected quirk was that, after the Planar Prison quest, when the party entered the circus tent in the Promenade to talk to Quayle, Hannah was again standing to the left side of the tent, and when we talked to her, she delivered the "Legs and hands" line, like she did when the party completed the Kalah Circus Tent quest. No real impact on the game, but odd nonetheless.

The only CTDs I got were those expected of someone who plays under OS X ;) I just installed Shadows over Soubar (minus the Remorhaz speed component, per BW instructions, and will run a new test game from the beginning.

Latest strange thing in my test game is that I have an Elf F/M who is unable to use arcane scrolls! When I add one to his inventory, it's shaded red. He can add spells to his spellbook from scrolls, but if I try to equip a scroll in a quick item slot, the message appears that says the item can't be equipped.

I'm not sure if this is related to TDD or to SoS, but I didn't notice this behavior till after installing SoS. I don't think I applied any fixes to SoS before installing it, either. Testing continues.

Finishing up Umar Hills quest. Bypassed dragon and defeated Shade Lord. Re-entered the temple ruins to find Ander and his wife (?) standing in the hallway...in double! Two of each of them. I ignored them and exited the ruins using the stairs the party descends when first entering the area. Continuing on to complete the quest, then do Trademeet quest, and then see if Shadows over Soubar will work.

Finished Trademeet quest (and associated djinn/rakshasa quest), checked Umar Hills and got quest from forest spirit (my main character is a ranger, so Merella's cabin is now her stronghold). Did that, killed Shadow Dragon in Temple Ruins, then returned to Trademeet. Hoped to find NPC in Vyatri's Pub to start SoS, but no such .cre exists to talk to, so I've hit a wall. Posted on SoS forum...awaiting advice on how to fix, so I can test SoS.
