Getting some CTDs, but they're at different spots. I felt good enough with NPC mods behaving that I installed the Herbs & Potions mod after SP Collection's item component. Visited the herbalist, and she functioned properly as always, creating some potions for the party.

In Waukeen's Promenade, Kivan asked what I could remember about Irenicus, then Yasraena asked about Gorion. Got a CTD. Cleared /cache/data and /temp, restarted, and reloaded the game.

This time, Yasraena asked about Gorion, then Kivan asked about Irenicus. No CTD. Continued playing.

Tried to travel from Docks district to De Arnise Keep, and got a CTD. Tried again to travel there from City Gates. Another CTD.

Running through the De Arnise (fighter stronghold) quest: killed otyugh in courtyard, then got an immediate CTD. Cleared directories as above and tried again.

Currently continuing, and about to finish this quest. I'll post the WeiDU log if that would shed any light on the cause of the CTDs.

Meanwhile, if anyone has any insights to share, please don't hesitate! In the past, I've tested the game using lower screen resolutions (I normally play in 1024x768), and sometimes with 3D acceleration disabled, but that never made a difference, so I've cranked everything up in BGConfig.

You have a lot of mods installed, and you've got a very full override folder. I've found the more mods I install, the greater chances of random CTD. In other words, nothing may be causing it.

Indeed, and with more mods yet to install, and an override folder with over 14,000 items in it, I'm starting to think that the random CTD issue is simply something I must live with. Of course, I hope there's a way to banish or minimize the crashes while using all the mods I want, but if I get no other unwanted behavior after installing the few smaller mods, plus the tweaks mods and Refinements, I'll just go with it...and save, save, save my games

Latest CTD issue with mods: after installing tbtweaks, I get a crash every time I create a new character and click on Ranger for the class. This has never happened before, not even with prior collections of mods installed (but this is the first time I've tested with Divine Remix installed, so I'm wondering if that has anything to do with this one). Uninstalled tbtweaks and started a new test game, creating an Elven ranger, and have no problems all the way through Chapter One.

I'll install tbtweaks again, to see if I can repeat the error, then try to pinpoint it by trying different options when installing that mod. I'm hoping to get it to work with my configuration, and then finish my testing, installing TB2 Tweaks and finally Refinements.

I always use 1024x768, in full-screen mode. If that's the cause of the CTDs, I'll live with it, as I can't stand to play using any other resolution.

This morning, I've attempted to create new characters, and I get a CTD whenever clicking to select any class other than mage, sorcerer, monk, or barbarian. I tested this with Human, Elf, and Dwarf males, with identical results.

I was going to install tbtweaks again, as I thought the last issue before this was resolved, but I won't install anything more till I've corrected this CTD on class selection issue. I'll see if it happens in 800x600 resolution.

Also, I used NearInfinity to find corrupted files, and it found over 10,000 files that had certain elements offset by one or more bytes. I don't know what that's all about, if it's causing any of the errors, or if there's a way to correct the offsets.

Any additional feedback in the way of ideas and advice on these matters is most welcome and appreciated!

It's your resolution. Higher resolutions are unsupported for a reason, and the more you add to your system, the less stable it becomes. It's up to you, but if it were me, I'd learn to live with 800x600.

Apparently, it's not my resolution, or at least not ONLY my resolution. I changed to 800x600 and tried creating some characters, and got the same results of CTD when clicking the same class buttons as before.

Everything checked out well enough after installing tbtweaks, so my latest effort involves BG2 Tweaks (from G3). I installed the mod, choosing not to add very many options (mostly staying away from graphical/animation tweaks at this point). In the first test, starting a new mp game with a newly-created character, I got a CTD when I clicked the Rest button with Imoen, Jaheira, and Minsc in the room where they all gear up, where the golem is standing. So, I relaunched the game, this time loading a saved game from before I installed TB2 Tweaks. Exact same result. I then uninstalled all of TB2 Tweaks, loaded the same saved game, and rested in the same spot successfully.

I suspect the option "rest anywhere" might be the culprit, but I'm not sure. I'll see what happens installing one component at a time from BG2 Tweaks. I'll start with "rest anywhere," as doing this should reveal whether or not that one component is the problem. I can easily live without that feature if it is. Hopefully, I'll be able to install at least some of the components, as TB Tweaks has many appealing options!

My experiences suggest to me that BG2 Tweaks is the problem, since uninstalling that mod fixed the CTD on rest problem. I'm now adding one component at a time of BG2 Tweaks (this on top of all the other mods I've installed, of course), and testing after each addition. The test is simply to load a saved game, click the Rest button, and see whether the game continues or I get a crash. Each component I've installed so far has passed the test. I've even played a little from some other saved games, and they all worked well enough. I just want to use the same saved game for the "real" testing, for consistency's sake.

Well, I thought things were going well...then I started a new game, started to create a new character, and got the CTD when I clicked on Fighter for character class. So, I scrapped the entire BGII - SoA directory and copied my "clean install + Fixpack" install, and am now installing mods again, as if for the first time.

I'm determined to overcome the two CTD cases of 1) crashing when selecting class (as reported earlier, no CTD when choosing mage, sorcerer, monk, or barbarian), and 2) crashing when clicking the Rest button (regardless of party location).

I'm paying close attention to mods that add or modify classes. I did install Divine Remix, and chose not to remove Bioware kits, so I'm hoping that won't be an issue.

As soon as I've gotten all NPCs installed, plus Crossmod Banter Pack, I'll begin a new (and hopefully final) round of testing. Such are the hazards when one pays so close attention to one or two issues that others are ignored. I'll have to go about testing all sorts of game elements, I suppose, and there's no way I'll have a playable game before the end of the year, at this rate

The fact that you're only getting crashes when selecting kittable classes is somewhat suspicious. Did you add all the kits in, for example Divine Remix? I wonder what happens if you keep the kits you add under the engine maximum (for a PC) of 9.

I read somewhere that a maximum of fifteen kits would show up for each class, but when I glance at the kit list under a given class, it doesn't look to me like fifteen entries could show up, so I'll count.

What strikes me as odd is that the game should crash when I select a class that has only one kit added (morituri added to fighter class). I've been successful in creating morituri characters in the past, so there's definitely a probem somewhere along the way.

Well, I've started over again, so I'll find where the game breaks by trying to create characters of various classes after installing each mod. This is becoming a monster...

I included only a few kits from DR, as I've read that I shouldn't install certain ones due to incompatibility with some other mods (I don't recall which, but this would include Sylvan Mystic, for example). OTOH, I go against another recommendation I read, and include Battleguard of Tempus, because I want to create a character based on a P&P Battleguard I've had for several years. Of course, I'll scrap the idea if there's no way to have my cake and eat it, too.

I have very few kit mods included in my list of mods that I want to incorporate into the game, as I don't want to overload things in that respect. Something else that strikes me as odd is that I don't see Battleguard in the kit list in NearInfinity, but it shows up in the game, obviously, as I've created such a character before.

I first played BGII - SoA on a friend's PC. From what I recall, the interface is nearly identical on the Mac; if I remember, I'll put up a screen shot or two, including one with a full kit list for a given class.

I'll check out that link you provided, and find out if any insights can be gained from it.

Seems pointless to be able to have more kits than the interface allows us to select. I'll observe the limit of nine, which means I'll have to count how many "stock" kits are included for each class, and be sure not to exceed nine when I consider adding any kits.

I've noticed that, with no kits added, there are three kits for each kittable class except for Mage, which already has nine kits included. So, my plan is to not install any additional mage kits, and to be careful not to install more than six kits to any other class. I'm hoping this will help to avoid the CTD when clicking on a class such as Fighter when creating a new character.

About to install those "special case" joinable NPCs (Kivan, Yasraena, Solaufien, Kelsey, Keto, and Chloe, in that order), testing the game after each one, then I'll continue on from there. I've gotten one of those "Assertion failed" crashes, and identified it as being associated with a custom item I downloaded and installed (a bludgeoning weapon called ANODAR). So, I removed that item, and the game behaves better. It was an .itm file dropped into the override folder (currently holding around 14,500 items).
