Dammit, I downloaded 4.03 but installed 4.01 because I forgot to update my unzipped folder (the folder where I keep mods I've chosen to install already unzipped and sorted by group, each one in its own folder). Well, I hope those components aren't critical, they change stats of demonic creatures, I guess i'll stick with standard version of them...

Done that same mistake few times too. :wall:

I don't think that not installing those components causes any problems but what do i know. :P

About crappack, I didn't change any option in the bat file, so components installed are standard ones, namely "paladin patch by falkentyne", "all blunt dwarven thrower", "quest pack compatibility patch" and "kelsey compatibility patch".

So besides the first two which shouldn't be critical, there is the "quest pack compatibility patch" other than kelsey patch. Is that one important?

Well i don't know what they do but compability fixes aren't there for nothing, they fixes something. ;)

I don't what problems you might or might not encounter.

I'm not 100% sure but I think these compatibility patches are only needed when you install BigPicture together with Kelsey and/or Questpack.

Since you didn't, this time, I don't think they are necessary.

Sorry i didn't noticed that you don't install BP. PutridWalker is right you don't need those components.

Good luck with the game. :new_thumbs:

Well... Game runs pretty smoothly so far, but difficulty is insane !!! For the records, I chose normal difficulty.

I actually have a party with an arcane avenger as main PG, then imoen, edwin, gavin, will scarlet and breagar. Imoen and main char are at lvl 2, others at lvl 1. I know that probably I should get another spellcaster, but I don't know where to look at for him lol :P

Game is insanely difficult and IMHO poorly balanced in some of its parts, since even a stupid xvart can one shot a member of the party but a winter wolf doesn't do any harm if i attack it with breagar and haiass.

This without taking into account random encounters with foes 2 or 3 (or even more) levels ahead, that one-shot each member of my party without taking any damage... One example, Gorken Bloodaxe in Nashkel mines, which is of course positioned in a spot that I must cross. I know that tactic mods would enhance difficulty, but frankly game is almost unplayable due to the fact that to gain one level many hours of play are required and bonus i get aren't worth it very much (really? A level 2 arcane avenger gets just -1 to thac0 and X life points? ). Another example, tristan and isolde, which I found randomly and slain my party in 4 hits (one for each member lol)

Really, how should I approach the main plot? Should I wait to have a lvl 3 or 4 party before adventuring into Nashkel mines? Since BG1 should be let you reach max lvl 9-10, i'm not sure how I can manage these random encounters...

Probably I suck at this game, since it has been years since I played it "seriously", and in the mean time I fried my brain with shit like diablo 3, and I lost the touch for real RPG :whistling:

edit: another sign of unbalance is that I randomly encounter a minotaur that interrupted a travel, I killed it without problem and he gave me 1500 experience points :ermm:

No body said there had to be a internal consistency in the game...

But yeah, you need to be at least level 3 to go to the Nashkel mines. You usually can do that by traveling around the neighborhooding areas around FAI, Nashkel and Beregost after having the 6 party members(the quest to get Dynaheir is a good one to get the XP for it too).

OK, desert dweller, welcome to the sanity, you are free to search for the limit, it's out there, we drew it in the sand. Ouh, actually it was still snow then.. but anyways.

And this is why I always look up the mods and the components, and pick them myself, so that I actually know what will be installed. This is not that hard or time consuming as it sounds :) (I know it can sound a bit daunting).

You have to realize that since you picked the standard preset of BWP, you installed a lot of components that you might not have wanted, if you actually had looked them up. Some mods have components that are unfitting together with other mods (but they are technically compatible), and some have components that are purely a personal preference. What the BWP batch does is simply installing all components that should not cause instabilities with each other. But it does not ensure a well balanced game in this process. Or even an enjoyable game. It simply helps you install whatever you wanted to install. So, for a truly enjoyable game, one can't simply throw hundreds of mods at it and hope it works out. Not to mention, all mods differ in quality too. Just because it's included in the BWP does not mean they are of high quality.

Also, the selection of the BWP has always favored harder difficulty. If you look at what components it installed you will notice some components here and there that make the game substantially harder.

This is exactly why the BWS became so popular. If you started to tinker with the components within it, you soon realized that one can not expect an enjoyable result from a simple preset like the BWP batch does by default. Customization of the batch will always be needed. Because most of the balancing options depends on what mods you pick etc.

I always used BWP..never tried BWS...but I also edited the batch file to ensure I got the choices I like.  You can also put a puase in the batch file to execute a file manually to chose the options you like.  Editing the batch file is not really hard.  I even found a doucment somewhere that helped explain many of the codes and how to put in a pause...don't remember where.  Sometimes I wish Leonardo would add a one page instruction in his PDF on how to edite the batch file.  I usually go through the PDF and see the choices that the batch file will make and then search and edit the batch file as necessary to pick the choices that I like.

Yes, open the save game with Shadowkeeper and find out what the *weapon code* is in the inventory tab... then open the game with NearInfinity and find the "weapon code.itm" in the ITM folder and then just use the edit tab, and find the usability flags and add in all of them.

After almost a month of play, a handful of swears for some really tough battles and lot, lot of fun, I finally arrived at the final battle with Sarevok, and of course...

...

...

I have a problem !!

I encountered the notorious problem of angelo and the other guy not spawning after talking with sarevok, making sarevok unkillable. I've read a couple threads here talking about it and I realized it should be a problem of SCS but i'm a bit confused about how to fix this.

Is it sufficient to use CLUAconsole and spawn the two guys when they should spawn? Or do I have to change some dialogue flag or something like that with near infinity too? Because in that case I have a serious problem, since for some reason I can't explain i'm not able to open jar files even if I have java installed correctly and i've associated jar files to javaw.exe...

It would be rather annoying not being able to continue the game after so much time spent :crying:
