#439613 Why this may take longer than expected

Posted by agnar on 03 March 2009 - 10:00 AM in Ninde

Indeed, good luck Deva! Such a great opportunity must come first of course, but we'll be around when you get time to finish Ninde, still eager to play *smile*

#439611 truly amazing work on this guys!

I first played D&D in the early 80's with my brother and a few friends. i was in 2nd grade, he was in 8th grade, but we both really got into it. we started out on basic, moved on to advanced, but never went to the newer versions. To be honest we also never played many of the modules, mostly sticking to our own adventures and campaigns. Probably because it cost moeny to buy the modules and we prefered spending that cash on the books to expand the game world itself instead.

The only module i conciously remember us playing was the keep on the borderlands. But even so playing these classic adventures is great, and it's amazing how much you've already accomplished, totally transforming bg2, highly impressive!

I love the npc's you've developed so far and the dialogue so far. If i had any knowledge of modding i'd offer to help with that. But my skills lie more in writing fiction. i suppose if it's needed i can lend a hand with spellchecking/proofreading of dialogue, possibly even helping write some if desired, though i know these are other people's characters and writing for someone else's creation is always a touchy thing.

I posted a long bug post, hopefully some of it is helpful, and if i can be helpful in other ways, let me know. Once again, amazing work by everyone on this mod, thanks for all the hard work!

Thank you, we really need a coder but I am sure I might add a writer or two if I can find people who are dedicated to write certain NPC's in the near future.

Understandable, i imagine the coding can become incredibly painstaking. i wish i knew how to code this stuff, it might push me to do some modding myself. i really need to sit down and try to teach myself how i suppose. i used to program in a few older pc languages way back and i do a bit of html, so i guess i can learn. Just need to peek around for the tutorial type stuff on coding i suppose and find the time to learn it.

#435216 sooo it looks like it started over

Okay, ran into another issue at the end game. So, kova proposes, kiyone accepts. we knock off Irenicus, then pop back into the elf city. But the problem occurs and it's nearly game killing. kiyone appears near the fountain with the 2 elves. It takes like, 5 minutes at least with the screen flashing thing (black to her on the ground, black, her on the ground...) then she stands up, her and the elves talk about her drinking the waters, she asks for kova, goes to look for him, then falls down.

And she NEVER gets back up. The rest of the party is in the same room, but in the normal AR code, while she is stuck in the newly made one Z#2803 i think it is. The only way i could get the game to continue is to kick her out of the party. Then suddenly the finale speech happens even though the room is empty except for elliseme, the 5 party members and i think 2 other elves.

i have no idea what the hold up was or if there's a manual trigger i can clua into action.

Sorry about the Bugs in existence, I hope you still had fun overall ^^;; mucho apologies.

About the starting over, I have to admit that I never once thought of removing the options for Brega Bylanna, altering the dialogue etc once the trial was completed, so that is my bad, I will have to amend that completely. It should not be difficult to fix that up.

Dayven will not be around to do the Cowlie bit if you tattled on him earlier. Telling Brega about him will remove Dayven from the game forever - making it impossible to do part 7. So that isn't a bug.

Kova will never suggest you bribe Edwin if Edwin is not in your group. Still killing him is a good move. Heh I do that all the time. So no bug there either.

None of these 3 issues will affect the marriage in anyway.

============

Now, the post proposal bug. For the life of me I honestly believe that most of the bugs in BTL that I still find largely unsolvable are somewhat related to the ARE errors, because I created separate AREs for the post-proposal and wedding scenes. I will do my best to get on the back and I'm very sorry but it looks like you just have to try a few reloads, maybe with the help of Ctrl-Y and/or the Uberweapon (Z#DIE from my Misc pack).

Other than that, I hope you enjoyed the Mod so far. Hopefully I'll be able to do one more release to settle most of the matters, now that I have quit WoW and probably will have more time to settle down once my business is worked out.

Thanks for the response, i got your email, but i dont actually use msn, don't even have it installed.

Thanks for answering the earlier questions, i figured that might be the anwers for the dayven and edwin bits. Oh, i cheated a bit on the witness quest, once i knew where it would occur, i summoned a few critters that last a long time, like fire elementals before rescuing the girl, in the spot it occurs. Then i had them hang out in back of the witness/escort and most of my party hang out around the witness. Then just moved my toughest fighter forward to trigger the attack. It ended up being fairly easy then, my fighter whipped on the outrider attackers in front, the elementals took out the outer attackers in back and the rest of my party took out the close in attackers.

i kept the save game, but i must admit i gave up trying for the wedding after 3 or 4 goes. killing irenicus in hell wasn't hard, but it was frustrating to go through it all multiple times with the same result. If you find the time to do a new release though i'll play it again straight through. i'll keep dayven around this time and try it with edwin in the group. This time through i played with a group edwin just didn't fit in with at all. next time i'll go with a good edging toward neutral group so a scumbag like edwin wouldn't be so out of place. *grin*

Oh, great work on the portraits, Kiyone and Myroven especially. :)

#435202 sooo it looks like it started over

Posted by agnar on 20 January 2009 - 03:13 PM in Beyond the Law

I believe I have the latest version as i only just downloaded this mod a couple weeks ago. I played through and all went smoothly until going to meet Seida, except I never got the bribing Corneil for more time option. Not sure how that's supposed to come about. I got all the evidence, turned it over to Myroven, got Kiyones bit about being good to leave for Brynnlaw. Left, fought Kharen, ducked the shadow thieves, went to shark city, underdark, out. Got Myroven's bit about free reign after returning from the underdark, but no real harm there it seemed.

Played through the rest, though i think i sidestepped a bit by going to see Ardelion directlyn (i guess Renal or Aran or someone was supposed to clue me to go see him? I never got a mention of him directly.) Also, i never got Kova's susggestion to go talk to Edwin, though Ardelion did hint about it. i waited a good long time, but kova never spoke up. So i just popped over to the CC and offed Edwin, just in case. Edwin gave only the normal dialogue options and was never in my group. Maybe he needs to be in the party for a time for any of that to occur?

Okay, so, myroven and the witnesses lived, i took them in, etc. i did have to moved my party to the area 402 or whatever, kill the trolls and bandits, then come back to aran, before he could successfully tranfer us to meet Sieda. Otherwise it crashed with the error referenced in other threads.

Now to my big "uh-oh" moment. I had the trial, Bylanna said not guilty, pardoned Kova. I left the building, then realized i couldn't find Dayven anywhere to do the cowled wizard bit, so i went back into the bulding hoping he was in there or brega could point me to him (though i did tattle to brega on him so he might be gone for good in that instance.)

So anyway, when i go back inside, it's all reset like the trial never happened, like i've turned in only the earliest evidence, no witness recanting... Brega, Bylanna and Corneil all act like it's back in a much earlier stage. Bylanna even saying we shouldn't go to trial yet because we don't have enough evidence, Brega saying we can't see the witness because we hang with the bad Kova...

Am I screwed for the endgame, marriage, etc. or will that not effect the marriage part? They were into the 2nd stage before we left for Brynnlaw. But i just don't know why everyone in the council building reset like that after i left. i can provide further specific info on variables and so on if you need, but i'm not sure exactly which info would prove helpful, or if this is just not something to worry about.

#440936 Something i've been meaning to mention/ask about

Posted by agnar on 18 March 2009 - 05:02 AM in Classic Adventures

...

Well, I always give myself a good head start on xp, 1000 at most though... well, I once played the Reaver kit who needed the 60 000 on the mage class to dual to a thief which then turns into the real class, so I just gave him the start xp with the console, and dualed.

oh i know i can console myself extra xp, but i'm speaking more to the totally legit in game experience. With dirbert saying that the pc had lead patrols going after wolves and goblins and killing them, there's no way the pc has no experience when the game starts. Sure, with dirberts wicked bow skill, it's reasonable to assume he'd have more xp than the pc does. But the pc surely would have gotten a couple hundred xp along the way on those patrols.

#440923 Something i've been meaning to mention/ask about

Posted by agnar on 17 March 2009 - 11:21 PM in Classic Adventures

but kept forgetting. It seems a bit off that the pc starts as a level 1, with no experience and only a wooden staff. i say this because dirbert is well equiped with 500 xp, and dirbert declares that he and the pc have gone after a thief, and the pc is supposed to have been active in the town militia before this. i understand, due to different character classes that equipping is impossible but it seems like the xp thing should be a bit more generous to start. if dirbert has 500 xp shouldn't the pc have a couple hundred points at least? everyone in the game is a good ways ahead of the pc.

Not a serious issue, but it does seem a bit off considering dirbert's banters about prior experiences with the pc catching a thief and so on.

#440406 Some Game Plot Questions

Posted by agnar on 11 March 2009 - 08:47 PM in Classic Adventures

one thing i think i mentioned elsewhere but in case i didn't, i noticed the last couple times i played pelja didn't instigate the talk. she just kind of stood there, until i talked to her. i didn't know if she is supposed to approach us, i thought she did the first time through. i've always had rihn, vild, or both, in the party. And she does give the quest if i speak to her first. Just wondered if some forcetalk setting isn't right on my install.

#440540 Some Game Plot Questions

Posted by agnar on 13 March 2009 - 10:31 AM in Classic Adventures

There has been some form of misunderstanding. I'm talking about the Gauntlet quest where PC is supposed to save Princess Fenla. The urgency I was talking about was because The Sentinel was in a hurry to destroy The Gauntlet and so I felt that was the thing that I should do first. And that's the reason why I thought that I could save Fenla after I had destroyed The Gauntlet. I don't know if it's against the idea of the PnP modules, I'm just saying that I got stuck because I played the game the way that I felt was the right way.

one thing to keep in mind is you can unlock the door without immediately talking to the princess. You can also talk to her and ask her to wait there until you finish off the gauntlet, then come back and escort her out.

#457884 So what do i do with Elmo???

Posted by agnar on 02 August 2009 - 12:50 PM in Classic Adventures

but, playing version .50 now and i've never figured out in my many playthroughs, what am i supposed to do with the dead body Aleigha asks me to take for proper burial from the Lizardmen fortress. I pick up Elmo's body, do everything else, go back to saltmarsh and no one ever mentions it. I'd think Aleigha at least should say "Oh, let's go bury him" or something. So am I missing something or did it just never get written?

Haven't actually come on any bugs this time through so far, a good few small ones from before have indeed been fixed, so great work on this version to this point in the game, just after finishing the lizardmen quests.

#458094 So what do i do with Elmo???

Posted by agnar on 05 August 2009 - 05:31 AM in Classic Adventures

Uuh, you mean the 4th level drunken fighter that you can hire as a follower in ToEE, at the Village of Hommlet is the same guy we meat at the real Lizardmens fortress that's overrun by the Sahuagin.

 :o Erhm, never saw that coming...

Never played ToEE, and the dying guy never gives a name. But the body's item description is Elmo. :D

#458058 So what do i do with Elmo???

Posted by agnar on 04 August 2009 - 01:54 PM in Classic Adventures

The Elmo storyline never got finished. I'll have to add that to the growing todo list.

That's cool, and quite understandable. i just wondered if i was missing something, so thanks for letting me know i wasn't. :) Don't feel so bad now about dumping Elmo's body in the saltmarsh crypt.

#453763 Sneak Peek at 0.50

Posted by agnar on 24 June 2009 - 10:14 PM in Classic Adventures

sory just to know Rhilitar problem has been resolved?

Well keep in mind 0.50 isn't done yet. That was a sneak peek at a work in progress. Besides which, if i recall correctly, they've thought they got rilithar fixed in each version but the naughty little bugger keeps managing to be a problem. So until a new version is in use and play tested thoroughly, there's no real way to know if a problem is 100% fixed or not. i'm sure they'll do all they can to try and fix him. But it's a big program, lots of coding, and some bits are especially intricate in how the interact, like rilithar.

#453420 Sneak Peek at 0.50

Here are a few screen shots of the revamped Westgate city. There are now four outdoor areas and lots of interiors.

Wow, those are really great looking screenshots SBB! Looks to be amazing work, as you guys have always done, and i'm looking forward to it!

#439854 Silver Princess & Sunless Citadel Modules

Posted by agnar on 06 March 2009 - 05:16 AM in Classic Adventures

Yes, currently the Vault does allow you to access NPCs that you have never met. I have to do a scrub on each NPC to see which ones you talk to and which you haven't, then update the access list to only show you those that you have met. It will get done someday but maybe not immedately. For now, you can access them if you want to see what their potential is. Just remembe that most of them are at level 2-3 so they will have a hard time of it in Myth Drannor.

Ah ok, i hadn't considered that they would be the same versions i originally would meet. That's a good way to keep folks, for now, from just pulling in a high level npc you've never met and acting like you're old buddies. *grin*

i should also add, having just this last run through paid more attention to the summoning dialogues, i like the way you did those. Stupidly i ran through the dialogues too fast the previous run throughs, so missed out on the chance of meeting certain people. :)

#438951 Silver Princess & Sunless Citadel Modules

Posted by agnar on 24 February 2009 - 11:29 AM in Classic Adventures

Chaarna always leaves at the end of the Silver Princess, she does return later. You have to find her. I am afraid it is too late to return. If you finished the Slaver ship, SP wouldn't offer you much of a challenge anyhow. Remember SP has three joinable NPC's that you can have only if you go through it. Sunless has two NPC's. CA is now big large enough with many different paths to enjoy. You will find that it does have replay value, So I suggest try both different ways with different games.

i wanted to mention, i thought it was odd that in the vault of ages i was offered the npc's from the silver princess dungeon, whom i'd never met as i played through the sunless citadel this time. i didn't pick them so maybe he says "who?" if i ask for aleigha. But i thought it odd i was offered folks i'd never met there.

i'll try to post a more thorough in depth thing with questions, praise, bugs, etc. later on.

#440833 Silver Princess

Posted by agnar on 16 March 2009 - 01:47 PM in Classic Adventures

Ok, I am fully prepared to admit I'm a total idiot, if I overlooked something, but this is my first time trying this (very interesting looking) mod out and I've spent the first hour trying to figure one thing out, namely - if I wanted to do the Silver Princess bit, rather than the Sunless Village, how do I accomplish that?  It says to place the classic B3, but what exactly does that entail?  Sorry if I'm just being a moron.  Mind you, I'll probably play the Sunless Village first anyway, but little details like this drive me crazy.  Thanks :)

Head over toward the druid's cave and the stone steps up, you should run into the lovely Chaarna there. Hear her out for another path.

#440323 Quick question about the ghost tower

Posted by agnar on 11 March 2009 - 03:00 AM in Classic Adventures

So, can anyone tell me what actually triggers this quest occuring? i am playing through .48 currently and when i was in mistmoor, i had icar in the party and the reward dialog was broken with him in the party. i got the no valid links or replies error when rilithar offered a knighthood to icar. So i tried dumping icar and doing the reward talk, this time it covered all but the PC (the group then was rihn, aesdale, leigha, shadow and pc). So the pc was never offered the knighthood thing that i saw.

Anyway, i get to the selgaunt bridge and i get roped into the ghost tower quest, which i honestly didnt want to do this go around. So i quit the game, went into shadowkeeper, i was going to see if i could change a variable to avoid it, but i never figured out what triggered the quest. So i figured i was stuck playing through it, i reloaded the auto or quick save, i forget which, from just outside the iron throne's tent, and this time, for some reason, i never got the ghost tower quest.

i didn't change any variables in SK, i loaded the save game, looked around, then exited when i couldn't figure out what triggered the ghost tower/huron thing. So i was wondering if it's random or what.

#440493 Quick question about the ghost tower

Posted by agnar on 12 March 2009 - 11:16 PM in Classic Adventures

the reward for rescuing the giantess, is that supposed to come later on when you get to add in the giants modules?

What reward? Right now you get some XP for doing this. Yes, this will benefit you later in the giants series (though I don't know how yet). I may have her tell the messenger to give you something. Not sure just yet.

The gauntlet and the guards tell you in so many words (but not directly, so this needs fixing) that the keep is yours.

ok, i just meant where she says her father will reward me for rescuing her. i figured it was meant to be built on when the giant modules are added in. i just wanted to make sure i didn't miss something.

The same for the pelja thing, she's fairly obviously someone to have a chat with, i just wanted to mention it, in case she was supposed to approach the pc, and it just wasnt working for me. i'd thought in the first game i played she apporached me, but i've got a babd memory so i was just remembering incorrectly. :)

#440402 Quick question about the ghost tower

Posted by agnar on 11 March 2009 - 08:36 PM in Classic Adventures

Ah, ok. just for kicks i actually did both the U and UK series. i know it's meant to be either or but doing both in one game is fun, and since i couldn't get althon to come along on the lizardmen thing, i was stuck with icar and piney bluff.

Something i'm unclear on with the gauntlet thing, i didn't recall being officially awarded the keep, did i miss some step there? i had the captured guardsmen on my side, destroyed the gauntlets, rescued the princess, talked to the guards after and told them it was over. But i didn't recall anything there about the keep being mine. Also i'd wondered, the reward for rescuing the giantess, is that supposed to come later on when you get to add in the giants modules?

#441818 Overall Progress: Questions & Feedback

Posted by agnar on 29 March 2009 - 12:52 PM in Valen Expansion

Hello there. Are you still planing to release this mod? If so, when?

give him some time. he only recently announced (in Novemeber) his harddrive problems and has likely spent most of his free time since trying to recover as much of his info as possible. As has been said before, when he has something new to tell us, he'll post it in the update section. Let him know we're still eagerly looking forward to this mod, but let's not harp on the poor guy. :)

#435821 Okay I played through with Ninde a 2nd time

Posted by agnar on 25 January 2009 - 03:51 PM in Ninde

with ver. 1.1 this time. It did work better, but still had some issues. First i want to make clear, i loved the way it's written to play out, great character and great dialogue. And i love the whole story arc through SOA, now that i was able to see all the lovetalks and ending and so on.

I will say though, that i had to force the lovetalks to happen after #24 i think it was. Now, i cannot be sure if it was actually hung up or if it needed certain events or whatever. i suppose to some degree i got a bit impatient with the timing, despite leaving my game running and having a banter accelerator installed, it seemed like talks were still coming too slowly to play out on their own. Like i somehow missed her second underdark only talk, it only happened when i forced it to happen while sitting in dearnise keep.

And i was unclear, does her quest/encounter only happen after killing bodhi and getting the lanthorn or is there some other triggering event?

i never got her apology talk after the bodhi rescue, though it looked like she was trying to talk, and for a time after the rescue, my pc couldn't initiate any sort of talk with her, not even the "Ninde has nothing to say" line, my pc just wouldn't go talk to her for some reason. That cleared up though when i forced the lovetalks to move forward.

And i was unclear on when the sex lovetalk should happen, because it happened twice. Once before entering the elf city when i admittedly was forcing the talks to happen so i could go ahead and finish the game. Then it happened again right in the middle of the endgame scenario. Elleseme made the offer of uh, you know, and we took her up on it. She did the deed, we stood up, then Ninde is wanting to sex me up. Go through that, the rest, the unpleasant morning after. Then i initiate a talk to ninde and her reaction to elliseme's offer and so on occurs as it should. Not clear why the final lovetalk/sex scene happened again just at that point.

And it'd be great if, eventually, you got her ankh to stop leaving her level-drained anytime i load a saved game. i had to console in a bunch of restore scrolls just for fixing her anytime i reloaded. haha :)

i can give a complete list of mods installed if you want and the log, wasnt sure if you needed all that stuff or not. i will say i was also running Xulaye, but i'll get into that experience over on that forum. :)

Thanks for all the hard work up until now, it's already better and more interesting, than quite a few other mods that have been out a loooong time. :)

#439881 Odd Solaufein bug - Xulaye not in my party

Posted by agnar on 06 March 2009 - 10:34 AM in Xulaye

I'm currently playing through with a mostly good party, and decided not to take Xulaye(she's very insistent, but I kept refusing until she gave up). My party is PC, Amber, Auren, Angelo, Yasraena, and Branwen.

All seemed to go ok in Ust Natha until Phaere ordered us to kill Solaufein. He responded with nothing but "I have no interest in speaking right now. All I desire is to remain here and drown myself in black mead until I forget I ever met that witch".

I poked around with NearInfinity (I don't really know what I'm doing, but it's fun :ermm: ), and it looks like he gives that response if global variable SolaufeinJob hasn't reached 8.
I checked with the console (GetGlobal("SolaufeinJob", "GLOBAL") and it showed 7, then I used SetGlobal("SolaufeinJob", "GLOBAL", 8 ), and then I got the dialogue options where I can kill him or get his cloak and let him go.

Note that I have Weimer's Solaufein mod (version 103) installed, as well as Xulaye v1 - although at this point (i.e. before dealing with the eggs, etc), Solaufein is probably the original one, not the Weimer version.

Anyway, not a serious bug, and I'm not sure if it's caused by Xulaye, Solaufein, or some weird interaction between them when I didn't take Xulaye, but I thought I'd mention it here ...

Hmm, i think that's probably Weimer's Solaufein because i cant recall ever getting that response. i've played with Xulaye installed and both in and out of the party and never got that problem, but i've never used the Solaufein mod. i could be wrong of course, but in my play throughs the Xulaye mod didn't seem to touch soluafein's dialogue very much, adding perhaps 2 or 3 lines to him in response to Xulaye. But most of the Xulaye content is focused on her interacting with the party and the PC.

#439876 Need Help with Mistmoor Quest

Posted by agnar on 06 March 2009 - 09:28 AM in Classic Adventures

As busy as you guys are, i had thought to try and answer his questions myself, having played through and found this stuff before. But i worried about giving away too much, giving out spoilers, etc. if i answer folks trying to help i'll err on the side of hints, not step by step walkthroughs of course, but i wanted to check, being fairly new to the forum.

i use this
Spoiler
i wish i'd noticed that quick access thing earlier. hah... Now i just feel thoroughly innattentive.   :whistling:
