How on earth do you survive with 1GB of d/l per month? I would die!

Is that 900mb TISpacked?

I don't know if packed is any different from compressed, but the TIS files (and all the area files, for that matter) are compressed into a zip archive, if that's any consolation.

TISpacked means compressed with TISpack. That's jpg compression, so it's a fraction of the size of tilesets in a zip or rar archive.

If I can actually get my ftp program to access the file, that's definately step one in rebuilding this puppy.

I'm kinda unclear at this stage on why it seems to be everybody else's job to repackage the mod, but eh.

Gilgamesh lost steam and wanted to abandon the project. With some persusion he was convinced to continue it or just release what he'd done. (Note the title of this thread 'eh?) I explained to him how to convert this mod to weidu format ages ago, but he was hesitant to change what he'd already done. So the community is attempting to chip in to get this bloated thing working and out there. ;)

In that case, no, the area files were not TISpacked. I see plenty of bitmaps in the areas zip archive, but no jpegs.

Well, TISpacked files will have a TIZ extension, rather than JPG. But okay, if it's not done already then it's definitely worth Hlid or someone else doing so, because 900MB really is crazy.

Heya folks, somehow missed this thread so far...

Since you are talking about shrinking donwload size, please allow some shameless advertising: I posted a small utility similar to tispack that allows to pack mos files a couple of days ago, just follow the link in my signature. I wrote this to shrink down v2 of the worldmap (and it works wonders, it is now about one third of it's original size), but hey, if it helps cut down the size of this monster, then take it!

(@Sim: Yes, BamPack will come 'some day' ;) )

Concerning the installer: Creating the installer for the Worldmap was rather easy given that Sir BillyBob had already done most of the work (well, the installer for v2 will be a 'bit' more complex since I am currently learning what you can do with WeiDU). But since this is a non-WeiDU mod if I understand correctly, the installer needed would be rather different. I think a '.bat' file with some copy, tisunpack and maybe mosunpack commands should do the trick. Compressing any existing wav's to ogg also helps, but I don't have the software for that.

All this said, I won't have the time to write an installer for this at the moment, but if any willing soul needs some help with the tools, folder structure etc. I'll happily pass on the little advice I am able to give.

It appears as though no one wants to WeiDU it or create an installer, so I guess we'll have to do without. 663MB is about as big as BGT, so it won't be the only mod that could fit on a blank CD.

Wiskas: Do you have a single RAR archive with all the smaller archives in it? i.e. Areas.zip, Override.zip, all the BIF's, etc. If you have everything compacted into one file, then we might as well release that. Wait a couple days to see if anyone chimes in on this thread. If not, would you mind uploading the RAR to me so I may place it on the mirrors?

I have written about 75% of NSIS installer script, probably will finish it tomorrow.

Gilgamesh, will you write something like readme file for the mod?

Sure! IŽve been pretty messed up the last couple of months (nothing to do with modding) so could you please write somekind of a clarification for me of what has been done and by whom? Just so that IŽll be able to thank the right people and get an overall picture of what has happened around here. Now that this thing seems to be getting out after all (no thanks to me) I should be around more.

:)

I would thank just about everyone who replied to this thread. If they didn't beta test, then they offered some useful advice. Give Wiskas extra points for packing this beast of a mod up and compiling an installer. ^_^

The rest of the thank you's should go out to whoever actually put the mod together. You should know who they are. ;) If memory serves, isn't there a credits section on the RoT web site?

How will the installer work?

(I mean do people need any special tricks to get the mod to work or can they just install and get playing)

You only have to start the game once before installing.

Installer makes backup, extracts all the files, uncompresses TISpacked files and deletes TIZ files. I also included original bgmain.exe so you can optionally install on ToB.
