...

No, no, no torrents.
Just pack it with WinRAR and upload the smaller files one at a time. Yeah, use the "Zip100: 98078kb" = 100MB's one on the "Split to volumes, bytes" drop down menu...

Unfortunately K'aeloree has not responded to my PM and I have nowhere else to upload a file of that size... If worse comes to worse, I guess I'll try to upload them here one at a time.

WinRAR can portion the whole package to smaller sizes.

Yeah I know it can. The problem is that the max upload size to a single post is 30MB, so with a 1500MB file, that means 50 individual uploads! I'm not up for that... Besides, it looks like with the recent forum changes, a single person might only be able to upload a TOTAL of 30MB in any given thread. I have had this problem with G3 in the past... I could probably upload it in only 15 chunks to IE Modding Resources as the max upload size is 100MB over there, but still I personally think it best to wait until K'aeloree has had a chance to read my PM and decide what he wants to do. I'm sorry for the delay but I do the best I can.

Edit:

Hey Sam,

I'll see what I can do, give me a few days.

I've created private torrent without registering it explicitely on some tracker site. I'm not sure it's going to work this way at all, but please go ahead and check, I'll seed for the next few hours.

The torrent file is within rar as forum engine didn't allow to attach torrent files.

No, FTPing it to SHS downloads would be easiest. K'aeloree should just put it under "CA Resources" or something. We've got some huge files (some derived from other games) under Infinity Animations.

Infinity Engine Contributions
Aurora * BG1 NPC * BG1 Fixpack * Haiass * Infinity Animations * Level 1 NPCs * P5Tweaks
PnP Free Action * Thrown Hammers * Unique Containers * BG:EE * BGII:EE * IWD:EE
================================================================
Player & Modder Resources
BAM Batcher * Creature Lister * Creature Checker * Creature Fixer * Tutu/BGT Area Map & List * Tutu Mod List
================================================================
"Infinity turns out to be the opposite of what people say it is. It is not 'that which has nothing beyond itself' that is infinite, but 'that which always has something beyond itself'." -Aristotle

Is it against forum rules to include stuff extracted for other games, like copyrighted stuff? I noticed some D2 animations in Infinity. For example, I'm working on TOEE backgrounds, if I put them up as modders resource, will they be taken down?

I think it is important to use some discretion, and if the owner of the copyrighted material asks for it to be taken down then it should be, but in general I think it is OK. Cuv, for instance has had ports of the PST animations uploaded to the forum as a modding resource since at least as far back as 2007.

Yeah, that and the fact that all the moding resources used here are all incased -even if it's not said- on the free for use for any free BG2 mods type copyright agreement thingy.
Usually the convertion process is hard enough to make well, that it usually makes the people take considerations of stuff that they don't want to make everything similar to other copy righted games if they even can... as usually the point is to make something better.

@salomonkane, well I've basically extracted all the maps and, since they're all tiled, I'm putting them together. Doing the day modes only for interiors, and day and night both for exteriors. Then I'm going to edit them. I'm working on a mod to introduce a little more immersion in BGT. I hope I complete it!

Huh..i didnt knew that this can also usefull for other game modders..nice to see :)

I extracted all maptiles, but build only the big mainly townmap...that was painfull enough:P

There is a very good extracting tool named as Ravioli Game Tools they can easy extract all background images from the game, and also from many other games.

To bad, i never found a way to extract the animations from Pool of Radiance 2:(

Ok folks, that's kind of stupid because I've used to hold, even share archive of Sam's maps, but that was 2 harddrives ago and I just noticed I don't have it anymore. Anybody had it around and willing to hop back on that old torrent or share it some other way? Would be really appreciated :)

In case somebody is still interested in this, I've created a Java command line application which allows you to extract the maps from a Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor installation directly. It is based off the C source code posted here in this thread.

For those curios, my application does fix the swapped red/blue channels of the images (that's why all the images shown here have a blue tint, the red and blue channels are swapped, the images are stored as RGB but the engine seems to use BGR). So the resulting image look like they do in-game. It also allows to stitch together most maps so that you don't have to do it. To run it, you can simply grab the jar from the repository and run that.

For example, if you want to extract a single map-tile (a single MCZ file) you can simply run:

java -jar por-romd-map-extractor.jar "/path/to/por-romd/data/MCZ/twr101.mcz"

And the resulting JPEG will be put into the current working directory. If you want to extract a whole map, for example the overworld map of Myth Drannor, you have to provide the path to the MCZ directory of the PoR:RoMD installation and the map name:

java -jar por-romd-map-extractor.jar "/path/to/por-romd/data/MCZ/" dran

The resulting image is quite large (~23000x11000 pixels), though. Many maps can be extracted like that, for example dran, nr_shrine and so forth. Most dungeons are currently mangled, though, as they do not place their tiles next to each other, but instead have "holes" and reuse some tiles of other maps.

Any comments or suggestions are welcome.
