#580602 Multimod installation following BWP guidelines...latest attempt

Posted by dabus on 26 August 2015 - 01:10 PM in Mega Mod Help

He's running with Win 7, so who cares if he uses a treadmill, 8086, a pencil case or a mac to make it run?

#575638 BWS Standard - missing archives

Posted by dabus on 24 February 2015 - 09:42 AM in Mega Mod Help

Alien updated the files for the master.zip and Turin likely loaded the download from the beginning of this year.
Anyway, just force the BWS to use scs30 as "Additional mod file". Then the BWS will extract scs30 twice => no harm whatsoever.

Or you'll have to edit the BiG World Setup\Config\BWP\Mod.ini.
Just remove the entries with an "add" at the beginning underneath the [stratagems]-section. Save, Restart the BiG World Setup.vbs and resume the install.

#584019 BWS for non-Windows OS

Posted by dabus on 23 December 2015 - 02:42 PM in Mega Mod Help

@subtledoctor:

That sentence (it's 2015) is so odd when...

...most talk here goes around modding a game that is "stone old" in terms of the fast paced computer age. Fascinating that we even talk about it.

...Linux is even relying on an "api-translator" to even play the original game on Linux.

...Linux having trouble to gather more folks than those that use Windows XP or X, which is trying to give the developers your data on a silver plate.

...Linux not being supported by a lot of mods that were essential to build that fat cat most guys were after for a long time -- at least the last time I was considering some kind of shell-script-creation a few years ago; it may have changed until now.

Everyone was free to create something compatible to support the OS that WeiDU runs on, but it seems like nobody that saw those flaws got enough time/endurance to do that. So my guess would be that Linux users just have the short stick here. A mac guy tried to create a conversion script for the BiG World Installpack, but as that batch got more and more out of the ordinary, it was discontinued.

Please mind that I've used Linux when kde and gnome had an 0 as the major version number and I still use Linux for surfing on an older PC. So I'm not against using Linux. It's just the same oddity as guys wanting to use a mac for business and still want their windows office applications to run on it and use parallels or bootcamp to do that and me being a bit bored to consider writing this. :)

#579797 Problem with Big World Setup

Your Big World Setup\logs-folder. Maybe you find a folder with a timestamp, then file with install in its name.

#575919 BGT and the Enhanced Edition releases

Posted by dabus on 09 March 2015 - 10:32 AM in BGT Archive

Since I guess that most people will not use some tool to get your mod but some kind of bundled download-package, you'll have a whopping piece of "wasted" bandwidth for the hoster if you fix a small bug and the big files (movies, animations) stay the same..
So I'd just think that it would be kinder to make things optional.

If you hate unpacking stuff, why not write a script for a zip-program or installer that will unpack the stuff if other optional packages are in the same folder?

#580930 Successful install of BGT with new D&D Anthology

Setups extract the files during install, you usually never touch a cab-file by hand.

#577296 Brand New Installation

Posted by dabus on 01 May 2015 - 07:28 AM in Mega Mod Help

Sorry, but if you use the BWS, you sure seem like you didn't play around with the selections screen.

So there is this little button that looks like this [ i ] right before the theme (version, size, translation)-string / right above the mods description.
If you click on that button, the homepage is opened.

You could also just search though the BiG World Setup\Config\Global-folder. All information that is available for a mod (except conflicts/dependencies) is written into a single file that is named like the setups name.

If you open the selection screen, you could also use the search box in the upper right corner to jump to the "return to Faerun" mod.
You can also use the box to search components. So if you wanted to look for mods that adjust quest xp, you could try something like 50%.

If you look at the description at the bottom, you can see that there's this text:
Adds to the game new chapter which begins after the completion of original ToB game with Sandrah in your company and having finished her own quest.

Dependencies and conflicts::
SandrahRtF needs SandrahNPC.
So yes, this is an addition to Sandrah, a biiig NPC mod that adds lots of banters, new areas and quests. So it#s not your usual "npc" mod.

Just rename her files. The setup should be before not after the name... Setup-SandrahNPC.exe and Setup-SandrahNPC.tp2.
At least that's what WeiDU suggested in its Readme and so that's what's expected.
Same goes for the SandrahRtF.

#577279 Brand New Installation

Posted by dabus on 30 April 2015 - 10:31 AM in Mega Mod Help

Like I said: If you don't get what you expect, someone/something likely changed something.
If the BWP patched add something that does not match, you'll be screwed.
Like patching a translation into a file that does not exist at a certain place (moved into a folder) and WeiDU does not find translation 1 and thus just uses 0.

If the files from the mod itself change, you'll be screwed.
Like patching a translation into a file that was changed, the translation-patch/definitions doesn't get applied (patch compares the text at the targeted lines that should be patched with the patch-files expectation and just skips stuff that does not match), WeiDU again only has translation 0 and tada, you get 0.

WAs revision has both translations and as far as I can see, Fixpack and Textpack don't try to patch the mod.

You guess you still use the 2 months old BWS download which is... old and uses the wrong files.
Do this to get a current one.

The new master/EET download uses this file.
You use VERSION 1.01 - 2.00b_150205 is the current used version with both languages. Guess you could get some more bugs out of your install if you'd use a current BWS.

#577176 Brand New Installation

Why don't you edit your install if you know which mods you want (recommended in that case by the way)?

#577170 Brand New Installation

Posted by dabus on 26 April 2015 - 12:11 AM in Mega Mod Help

Tactics is dead as the other pre-selections are - dead as in Leonardo is not using those any more so its more or less guessing for Quiet/Alien.

As far as I remember, NEJ never had a good reputation when it came to stability / melting into the world and 6.80 was proclaimed to be the one that best fit with BGT installs.

#577277 Brand New Installation

Posted by dabus on 30 April 2015 - 10:21 AM in Mega Mod Help

What do you mean by default? Translations are (and are listed as in the BWS):

GE:0
EN:1

You can also see that in the BiG World Setup\Globals\ac_quest.ini. Or use the internal tools to edit your mods and you'll see that, too.
You should always get the translation that you preferred (or better say that the BWS will use that language number). If someone / something changes those numbers, typically you're screwed.

#580112 BWP v15

Posted by dabus on 03 August 2015 - 07:20 AM in Mega Mod Help

Uh, I don't know if I think you missed the Point or not, so here again:
So yes, currently 10pp is useless if you don't have GemRB.
Gemrb is an engine.
(So mody that rely on patching don't work und there might be other issues along with the ones that are listed at the projects website)
10pp is a mod that hipothetically would work if tobex or ees could be extended to handle extra party members.

So this mods does not work with the BWP as it is now and I guess Leonardo does not want to start if everything runs with the gemRBB-engine.

Baldurs-gate.eu is not Leonardos website. ;)  At least I guess you used the list from there.

Edit: Corrected.

#576712 BWP v15

Posted by dabus on 09 April 2015 - 04:04 PM in Mega Mod Help

Simple: Look at the code...
findstr /I /M "individual" %SET%>nul
if %errorlevel%==0 (
	call ".\%BWIP%\individual.bat"
)
So individual is used if individual is in BWP Settings.txt. Search bat-files for that string and you find
%TXT% | findstr @503 | Call %C%
%TXT% | findstr @547 | Call %C%
:REPMODSE
set X=
set /P X=
if /I "%X%"=="1" echo PreSelection>> %SET% & goto :CKSUMCOM
if /I "%X%"=="2" echo process>> %SET% & goto :CKSUMPRO
if /I "%X%"=="3" echo individual>> %SET% & goto :CKSUMIND
if /I "%X%"=="4" echo allyouget>> %SET% & goto :CKSUMPRO
%TXT% | findstr @500 | Call %C%
goto :REPMODSE
Now look for 3 in string.txt. Text has a 503 in front of it.
@503
@503[1] Do you want to choose a preselection?
@503 or
@503[2] Do you want to filter the mods according to various parameters?
@503 or
@503[3] Do you want to use an installer changed by your own and skip the settings?
@503 WARNING: This option should only be used by very experienced and keen on
@503 experimenting players. You probably will run into problems and therefore
@503 you should be able to use NearInfinity!
@503 or
@503[4] Do you want to install all you can get? (not recommended)
Tada. So you likely selected another option and not 3.
Wasn't that hard if you keep 2 or 3 things in mind and know where to start/know what you want.
You just need a tool to search through the files. You can even use cmdline-tools like the batch.
Search all batch files in a folder for individual with this:
findstr /n /s /I "individual" "*.bat"

#579994 BWP v15

Posted by dabus on 29 July 2015 - 09:59 PM in Mega Mod Help

Its not a mod. You throw baldur.exe / bgmain.exe and so on away and replace it with new files. So mods that injects / modifies bgmain.exe at certain points, won't match. At least that's what I think.

#579945 BWP v15

Posted by dabus on 28 July 2015 - 12:50 PM in Mega Mod Help

Uh, you read the Todo list?
I don't want to bash the project and it's made progress (checked it some years ago and you were stuck every now and then) but minor bugs like not handling female pcs sound like "wait a year" until you could consider using gem instead of the "real" engine.

#577159 BWP v15

Posted by dabus on 25 April 2015 - 01:10 PM in Mega Mod Help

It's based on a download portal and if you dare to join a German community that can understand / write English, you can still do it.

By the way: If you want to contribute, you could try to help to keep the BWS up to date - which has the/its list of URLs, too. And is located on bitbucket and has regular visited forum entries here.

(And you could have used it to download / extract / install the mods, too.)

#577470 BWP v15

If you don't want to download manually, you could use the Bws.
Or you can use it to get its download-links and load yourself.

Yes, you can have him in your party, he's got a friendship path (26 dialogues), banters, pids and so on. You have to rescue him from being transformed into a drider. If you got Weimers version installed, it's going to be compatible (of some sort like the rescue not triggering if Weimers already with you or 2 npcs waiting to ask you into the party if you rescued him and stated some sort of interest in him as a being). At least that's how Jastey introduced the mod.

#581520 The 'official' BWP Fixpack thread

Posted by dabus on 15 October 2015 - 10:56 AM in Mega Mod Help

Coincidentally, this part caught my attention:
CA_AddDown=http://www.arcanecoast.ru/download/BWFixpack_aurora_fix.7z
CA_AddSave=BWFixpack_aurora_fix.7z
CA_AddSize=1259
CA_AddTest=BiG World Fixpack\aurora\t-kobold.tpa.patch:-
Is there a fix to BWP Fixpack on Arcanecoast? If so, how comes it wasn't incorporated into, ugh, Fixpack itself? :)

Just for the record:
CA_ means that this is only used when building the mod.ini for the config-folder CA, which contains the BWS files for Classic Adventures.
You can also find other examples like stuff that's used for IWD1 only if you look into the global 1pp-file.
If you look into the BWP's mod.ini, you won't find the CA_lines. If you configure CA and check the mod.ini, you'll find.
AddDown=http://www.arcanecoast.ru/download/BWFixpack_aurora_fix.7z
AddSave=BWFixpack_aurora_fix.7z
AddSize=1259
AddTest=BiG World Fixpack\aurora\t-kobold.tpa.patch:-

Those are very likely lines that were in the games mod.inis before we merged them into the global ini-files.
Maybe there are some more of these leftovers.
