NEJ2 is Weidu, so it should be compatible with BGT-Weidu and all the other Weiduized versions of BP mods (TDD, SoS, DSotSC, etc.). The to-be-released BP v170 isn't nevessary for all those to work. So it's BP and not (as it was meant in the beginning). Some1 plz correct me if I'm wrong.
The original purpose of BP was to make TDD, SoS,e tc compatible with each other, but since there are Weidu versions of most of them, BP is now (in the Weidu environment) more of a "sauce" to add to the rest of the dish.
NEJ2 isn't compatible with the good-old-BP version.

Being a "WeiDU" is not a guarantee to be compatible. We have many many examples of that. I don't want to tell about which mod is not compatible with what. It'll be a waste of time.

I can tell you only (I wrote that already somewhere) that following combination of large mods is 99.9% free of any compats issues (because those components already been revised or just don't interfere with anything outside their own resource list): ToB + BGT-WeiDU + SoS-WeiDUv102 + latest BH, DSotSC, NTotSC + Baldurdash-WeiDU + Worldmap. Point. If you want to add anything else - you'll find big, medium, small or just some micro incompatibility later....

Well, that's why I always use "should be" instead of "are", cos even small mods can get into problems with each other, not to mention huge ones. I just wanted to make an approximate picture for the guy who had read about NEJ2 not being compatible with BP.

lol! This was dealt with in another forum. Install SoS first.

Sorry again, Ascension64. The BGT-Complete.bat file.

Though last night's attempts at the rigid method did not work, even getting that as a work-around would be helpful to those using 98/98SE.

Below @echo off. Again for debugging you can delete @echo off in BGT-Complete.bat so you can see what is happening.

Tried the file replacement and the string replacement again last night. Again both failed. Here are the .debug files. I hope this helps.

*****************************************************************

Attempt with file replacement, run from a DOS window
Relaced BGT-PreSetup.bat in BGT\Language\English
Placed Strings.com in BGT\Install
Failed...drops back to prompt, .debug follows.
Note: Strings.com must be in bgt\install or it faults out.
Note: Strings.com is copied to the main directory after terminating.

This double post is intentional.

I also have XP on my PC (System Commander works wonders at multiple OS's on the same machine). I tried to install BGT-WeiDU on XP last night as well, without success.

Here's the information I got.

I have Win 98, and I have installed this (though not completely without problems)

I hard-coded the SET command in the file as Ascension64 said. I will post part of the two batch files so anyone who is trying to work this out can see what I did. The rest of the file I left as it was

BGT-PreSetup.bat
:: Windows 9x/ME installation prompt ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
:OLD
::TRANSLATE
echo ------------------------------------------------------
echo Enter the full path to your Baldur's Gate installation
echo    without any terminal slashes followed by Ctrl+Z,
echo                   then press Enter
echo                          OR
echo Type in 'exit' followed by Ctrl+Z, then Press Enter to
echo                 quit the installation
echo ------------------------------------------------------
::END TRANSLATE
::COPY CON Input > nul
::FOR /F "delims=" %%v IN (Input) DO SET BG1PATH=%%v
SET BG1PATH=C:/Program Files/Black Isle/Baldur's Gate

echo BG1PATH=%BG1PATH%
pause

GOTO CHECK

BGT-Complete.bat
@ECHO OFF

ECHO Baldur's Gate installation directory detected as "%BG1PATH%"
pause

echo -------------------------------------------
echo Importing music from Baldur's Gate:TotSC...
echo -------------------------------------------

the 'pause' is just so I can see that the BG1PATH variable is being set up as expected. This seems to work if you edit these files in advance and then run them from Setup-BGT-Prep.exe

However, I have some more bad news regarding Win98's very poor command shell. 'RD dirname /S /Q' doesn't work. It complains /S isn't supported and does nothing. 'DELTREE /Y dirname' does work. With the /Y it doesn't ask, just prints out a message saying the directory is being deleted. The installation does go through, however. I just have a big list of area directories that aren't being cleaned up correctly.

By the way, Grogerson, at least one of the problems you are having in XP is due to the directory BGT\backup not being created when you unrar the archive. Some decompression programs (such as mine, and it seems yours) don't create empty directories. Create a 'backup' directory under BGT and you shouldn't have this problem. This question was probably aimed at Ascension64, but seeing as I was posting, I thought I would offer my advice. I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Is chitin.key in use? i.e., stop using any BG-related program during install. Also, before starting to install, delete WeiDU.log (but ONLY if you have no other mods installed). Otherwise you will need to open WeiDU.log and remove any BGT-WeiDU related lines then re-install from the start. All the testing you done must have screwed up the process somehow.

Thanks for the info, Lodgey. The area file cleanup occurs with the non-WeiDU BGT also (I started a thread a while back that gives a list). I also see a couple of things I may have done wrong in the 98 side.

As for the XP side, I have the Windows extractor, PowerDesk, 7zip and WinRAR to try with, and see which ones don't create the BGT\backup directory.

Ascension64, I'm installing a "vanilla" BGT-WeiDU, with no other mods. I will have to remember to delete the WeiDU.log when I try next.

Calantyr, how has your side gone? I haven't seen anything from you for a while. Your experiences could be very helpful...

Just a quick note: I always put an empty file in the backup folder of my mod(s) - that solves this problem B)

Also, a general pointer (though I am not sure if it applies in this specific case):

When you install BG2, some files are flagged as read-only, which I have found out that sometimes tends to screw up the installation of other mods. So, make sure that you remove the read-only flag from all the files in your BG2 folder and subfolders are. To do that, open your BG2 folder via Windows Explorer, select everything in that folder, right click and select Properties, then uncheck the "read-only" box, click "Apply" and then "OK".

My BG1 is found at F:\Black Isle\Baldur's Gate

I ran Setup-BGT-Prep.exe as shown by Lodgley with the following result:

After showing location of BG1 I got the message
"Invalid Baldur's Gate Directory, restarting..."
and returned to showing the location of BG1 (infinite loop).

After adding the exit code, the install terminated with the message
"File not found"
and returned to desktop.

The same result occurs with forward (/) or backward (\) slants in the BG1 path.

It appears I am not getting out of the BGT-Presetup.bat file.

The Setup-BGT-Prep.debug follows, and it shows chitin.key activating.

grogerson, sorry for all this crud, it's frustrating for me too that I can't test it out.

"File not found"

This is probably due to the command prompt trying to delete the file Input and not finding it because that was what the directory of BG1 was originally read from using the FOR /F command, which sadly does not exist in Win9x OS.

"Invalid Baldur's Gate Directory, restarting..."

In Lodgley's script, can you try changing GOTO CHECK to GOTO CREATURE so you skip the directory check phase. If you start getting a whole bunch of WeiDU and 'the file name or directory was invalid', etc. error messages then there is a problem with the directory that you have set. If it works, then there is a problem detecting BGMain2.exe in your BG1 install directory.

No problem, Ascension64.

I did say I'd be your lab rat, and the way things work with me I'll find the install bugs no-one else will for 98/98SE.

Thanks for the idea, I'll try it tonight.

I managed to install last night. GOTO CREATURE worked.

For Lodgey: Are you running Windows 98 or 98SE? Also, did you alter the BGT-PreSetup.bat and/or BGT-Complete.bat files in any other way than shown?

My BGT-PreSetup.bat looks like this:
****************************************************
::END TRANSLATE
::COPY CON Input>nul
::FOR /F "delims=" %%v IN (Input) DO SET BG1PATH=%%v
SET BG1PATH=F:\Black Isle\Baldur's Gate

echo BG1PATH=%BG1PATH%
pause

::IF "%BG1PATH%" == "exit" (
:: del Input
:: exit
::)

GOTO CREATURE
****************************************************
Now to figure out why my installation required GOTO CREATURE rather than GOTO CHECK, especially since Lodgey's apparently worked with GOTO CHECK.

My BGT-Complete.bat looks like this:
****************************************************
@ECHO OFF

SET BG1PATH=F:\Black Isle\Baldur's Gate

::ECHO Baldur's Gate installation directory detected as "%BG1PATH%"
pause
****************************************************

The switch /F is then worked around, but then I get "Invalid switch - /S" during folder cleanup. This left me with several folders that did not get removed.

I compared my 98SE and XP installs and found the following folders remaining in 98SE: 66 AREA*, 10 BG1*, BGMODCRE, BGTCRE, BGTWAV and dlgtemp (80 folders total). I have removed them from the directory (but put them elsewhere...just in case).

Lodgey noted that DELTREE works fine. Is it possible, or reasonable, for these folders to be created in a separate folder, and then removed with this function?

Windows XP note:
My XP install worked after verifying the folder BGT\backup existed. You might consider a note in the next BGT-WeiDU readme to verify this *empty* folder exists, and to create it if it does not.

Well done, grogerson. Looks like the stupid IF NOT EXIST statement doesn't work either, although I cannot see what is wrong with it at all (as well as the FOR /F command that still doesn't work) I have yet to work out why the STRINGS.COM method is not working as well because that seems to be the best option.

For BP users, note that this method will NOT work for NeJ/NeJ2 installation because GOTO CREATURE skips detection of these mods. grogerson, can you check that BGMain2.exe exists in your BG1 installation directory?

Lodgley mentioned the rd /s /q switches not working and I have changed these to two commands: del <dir>\*.* and rd <dir> to make things simple.

You should be able to delete all those extra folders and be fine.

Thanks for testing all of this stuff out.

Windows XP note:
My XP install worked after verifying the folder BGT\backup existed. You might consider a note in the next BGT-WeiDU readme to verify this *empty* folder exists, and to create it if it does not.

What extraction utility (with version) did you use to extract the archive? I may as well just put a placeholder file in there to make things simple.

STRINGS.COM test batch file. For those interested in doing a little test batch for me, I have attached STest.txt, which you should rename to STest.bat. Then, put STest.bat and STRINGS.COM (somewhere earlier in this topic) in the same directory then run STest.bat. Follow the on-screen instructions and make sure you take a screenshot of every line shown in the command prompt box at the end when it tells you to and post here or someone else (and provide link). Hopefully, this will help me determine what is working and what is not in STRINGS.COM and how it can mesh in with the DOS shell so I can determine whether this method is going to work at all.

Final note, this will ONLY work for Windows 9x/ME users, so other users please do not try this because it guaranteed will not work.

Thanks in advance.

UPDATED (16 July): Please do it again. Also, try typing something else in TEST 4 when the prompt asks you to type 'exit' and see if it is unsuccessful in closing the box. The main test is in TEST 3, so this is the most important thing to report

I used 7zip (freeware, most recent release), Ascension64. I got the full extraction, including the empty folder.

As for the STRINGS.com, just because it didn't work for me doesn't mean it doesn't work. It would be helpful if anyone else who tried it let us know how it did.

And yes, BGMain2.exe is in my BG1 install directory. This perplexes me because the XP install of BGT-WeiDU ran just fine. Both installs (98SE and XP) are using "copy" installs of BG2.

I'm currently upgrading my PC (so XP will run better). Once it's done I'll try reinstalling through 98SE and see what happens. Wish me luck.
